Abstract: The Frequency response of a Microstrip Interdigital Filter (MIDF) is improved by providing a specially dimensioned top cover separated from the MIDF ground plane along one or both of its edges by a dielectric layer comprised of thin dielectric sheets. While the upper frequency skirt is mainly determined by the MIDF itself, the bandwidth may be reduced and the slope of the lower frequency skirt may be enhanced by providing the cover in accordance with the invention. The thickness of the dielectric layer can be chosen to further improve the slope of the low frequency skirt by effectively moving the filter zero closer to the desired low frequency cut-off of the filter. The particular choice of the dielectric thickness will not substantially affect the filter bandwidth.
Abstract: A microwave integrated circuit (MIC) quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK) demodulator uses a novel arrangement of couplers to permit the IF ports to be adjacent one another so that, in mixer applications, it is unnecessary for the circuitry to leave the plane of the MIC. A symmetrical arrangement of the MIC ensures near-perfect phase orthogonality of the RF.sub.2 split and the power/phase identity of the RF.sub.1 split.

Abstract: Cryotherapy apparatus for effecting localised cooling of body tissue comprises an intensively cooled hollow probe extending from a handle. Cooling of the probe is effected by refrigerant passed through a capillary tube in the probe to expand and evaporate in a chamber near the probe tip. Passages in the probe and handle serve to supply and exhaust refrigerant from the capillary tube and chamber respectively. In order to prevent excessive cooling of the handle, automatic means are provided which upon the handle temperature falling below a threshold value are arranged to energise a pressure reducing valve to restrict refrigerant flow to the probe and simultaneously energise heating elements provided at the entry of the valve and in the handle.
Abstract: A stereophonic signal demodulation circuit receives an input signal including a signal modulated with first and second channel information to separate the first and second channel information from each other. The circuit includes first and second operational amplifiers and at least two switching devices namely, first and second switches for applying the input signal through respective resistors to one input terminal of the first operational amplifier and third and fourth switches for applying the input signal through respective resistors to one input terminal of the second operational amplifier. A control device controls the operations of the first through fourth switches and the first and second operational amplifiers outputs first and second channel information, respectively.

The hammer is guided for relative vertical movement within an auxiliary guide frame on top of which the drive unit is permanently attached, said frame being suspended from a hoisting device.
Abstract: A lithographic resist for use in microfabrication comprising a negative-type resist containing a radical scavenger capable of preventing post-irradiation reaction.
Abstract: Plant growth and suppression regulators of the N-(2-substituted-4-pyridyl)urea and thiourea type are provided, which exhibit excellent cytokinin-like activities and are thus useful for regulating plant growth in various fashions, such as acceleration of growth when used in flowering or fruiting at a controlled time when used in small amounts, and controlling compositions such as sugar, alkaloids, etc. of plants, or suppression of plant growth when used in an amount higher than optimal for growth acceleration, etc.

Abstract: A bail latching and releasing mechanism is disclosed, wherein the mechanism is assembled in either one of the support housings, one being provided with a pivotable bail arm cam and the other being provided with a bail arm lever. The mechanism includes a kick lever, a dead point spring and an operation cam. The kick lever is pivotably secured to one of the support housings and is spring biased by the dead point spring to perform selective pivotal movement in synchronism with the rotation of the bail arm lever or bail arm cam. The pivotal movement is also initiated by the operation cam when the kick lever is brought into alignment with the operation cam during fishing line release position of the bail arm.
Abstract: A cigarette magazine chute wall is formed by two metal sheets 11, 12 glued together in an arc-shaped zone 10b and filled with a moldable spacer material 14 in a wedge-shaped zone 10a. Grooved pins 15, 16 and threaded bushes 17, 18 are embedded in the filler to implement the anchoring of the sheets and their subsequent assembly in a magazine. A mold assembly is built up by clamping together a plurality of curved mold plates 20, and disposing a pair of magnetically fixed sheets 11, 12 between adjacent plates, whereafter the filler 14 is introduced under pressure.
Abstract: A magnesia partially stabilized zirconia ceramic material possessing from about 2.8 to about 4.0 wt percent magnesia, and made from a zirconia powder containing no more than about 0.03 percent silica is described. The ceramic material has a microstructure, produced as a consequence of the method by which the material is made, which provides both high strength and good thermal shock resistance properties. This microstructure comprises grains of cubic stabilized zirconia within which are formed, during cooling from the firing temperature, precipitates of tetragonal zirconia. These precipitates are elliptical in shape, with a long axis of about 1500 Angstrom units. Additionally, some of the tetragonal zironcia precipitates are made to transform into a non-twinned microcrystalline monoclinic form of zirconia by reducing the temperature of the material to below 800.degree. C., then subsequently holding the material at a temperature in the range from 1000.degree. C. to about 1400.degree. C.

Abstract: A mixture of stereoisomers of an .alpha.-cyano-3-(4-halogenophenoxy)benzyl 2-(4-chlorophenyl)isovalerate, which consists substantially of or is rich in an enantiomer pair of an (S)-.alpha.-cyano-3-(4-halogenophenoxy)benzyl (S)-2-(4-chlorophenyl)isovalerate and an (R)-.alpha.-cyano-3-(4-halogenophenoxy)benzyl (R)-2-(4-chlorophenyl)isovalerate; a process for preparing the same; and an insecticidal and/or acaricidal composition containing the same.
Abstract: A method and assembly for depositing a metal on a cylindrical bore which passes through the central portion of a large part. The invention consists in placing and centering the large part (1) between an upper tank (4) and a lower tank (3), so as to define a chamber (8) inside which the bore (2) is disposed and outside which the peripheral portion (9) of the part (1) extends, said chamber being filled with electrolyte. The electrolyte is homogenized and regenerated continuously by a current which flows between metal anodes (14) in the bore (2) and the part (2) serving as a cathode. The invention is used for depositing nickel on the bores of turbine rotor wheels so as to adjust dimensions or prevent fretting corrosion.
