Abstract: In an automatic paint spraying apparatus automatic control means comprises two parts, the first part providing programmable control means for determining a desired sequence of operations and the second part comprising position indicating means for generating an electrical digital signal representing the position of a spray gun and comparator means for comparing the signal from the position indicating means with reference signals determining the sequence of operation and providing an output for use in controlling the spray guns, the second part of the automatic control means being arranged for location within a paint spraying area having an hazardous atmosphere.
Abstract: Apparatus for distribution and preliminary separation of a vapor-liquid mixture in a separator with horizontal axis, from a neck 10 on the lower generatrix of the separator, it comprising two symmetrical deflectors 11, 12 in the form of portions of cylinders, with parallel axes perpendicular to that of the separator, each cut by two oblique planes, and completed by three partitions 17, 18. Their edges are provided with troughs 21 for collecting and discharging the water deposited on their concave surface, issuing into spaces separated from the neck. The invention has application to separator-superheaters for wet water vapor from an expansion turbine.

Abstract: Each key of the pedalboard is supported and guided for pivotal movement in a vertical plane by a steel strip secured to the underside of each key adjacent the midportion thereof. The rear end of each key is operatively connected to a transversely extending rear frame for horizontal reciprocating movement perpendicular to the rear frame and the forward end of each key is disposed between transversely extending upper and lower and front frame members for limited vertical movement therebetween. The forward end of each steel strip is secured to the lower front frame member to normally bias the forward end of each key into engagement with the upper front frame member.
Abstract: A circuit breaker having stationary contactors provided for all of the poles thereof. Movable contactors are provided for all of the poles in correspondence to the stationary contactors. Stationary contacts are provided on the end portions of stationary contactors and movable contacts are disposed on the end portions of the movable contactors. The movable contactors are movable from the stationary contactors by electromagnetic force to open respective circuits before the circuit breaker is opened by an overcurrent tripping device when large current such as short-circuit current flows. Holders adapted to hold the movable contactors of all of the poles are mounted on a common rotatable insulating rod, one of the holders being provided with a latch which is turnable around a rod provided on the holder. A slot is normally engaged with the latch, and when disengaged from the latch, a rod can be turned by the holder.
Abstract: A printing device having a plurality of print hammers having striking surfaces arranged along a print line and print magnets provided adjacent to one another for driving the printing hammers. A magnetic interference preventing device comprises a memory for storing for each column the excitation lapse time information of the print magnets. A reader which, when exciting each print magnet is started, reads the excitation lapse time information of both print magnets adjacent to each print magnet out of the memory. The reader outputs a signal only when the excitation lapse times of both print magnets are in a predetermined range of time. An inhibitor is used for inhibiting the excitation of each print magnet when the excitation lapse times of both print magnets are within the predetermined range of time.
Abstract: A method of preparing an extract from a material comprises contacting the material to be extracted with carbon dioxide in the liquid state to dissolve the matter to be extracted in the liquid carbon dioxide, heating the solution of extract to evaporate carbon dioxide from the solution of extract, compressing and condensing the evaporated carbon dioxide vapor to re-form liquid carbon dioxide, and re-cycling the liquid carbon dioxide to contact the material to be extracted. At least part of the heat evolved from the carbon dioxide vapor after its compression and during its change of state from vapor to liquid carbon dioxide is used to cause the change of state of the liquid carbon dioxide in the solution of the extract to evaporate the carbon dioxide from the solution of the extract.

Abstract: The commercial process of preparing citric acid by submerged fermentation of hydrolized carbohydrates under aerobic conditions with yeasts of the genus Candida, while maintaining the pH value at 5-7 by addition of calcium hydroxide, is improved by submitting the broth obtained from a first fermentation operation to a first centrifuging to separate calcium citrate and then to a second centrifuging to separate the yeast cells. The cells thus recovered are recycled for use in a further fermentation operation. The use of said recycle cells permits higher yields and outputs of citric acid to be obtained in the further fermentation operation.

Abstract: The present invention relates to novel treating agents for treating waste water containing dyes and/or other organic substances, a process for treating said waste water by using said treating agent, and an equipment for the same.The treating agent is prepared by mixing component A comprising a water-insoluble calcium salts and component B consisting mainly of aluminum hydroxide, aluminum oxide or a mixture thereof at a molar ratio of 3:1 to 1:3 and heating said mixture of components A and B as such or after granulation at a temperature between 100.degree. C. and 450.degree. C.The treating agent thus obtained has excellent adsorption and oxidative ability and is capable of easily clarifying waste water discharged from fiber processing plants that contains a variety of dyes and other organic substances, for example, sizing agents such as starch, polyvinyl alcohol and C.M.C.
Abstract: Measuring apparatus for providing a reading representing a magnetic field component or the electric field component of incident radio frequency electromagnetic radiation comprises a set of magnetic field sensors and a set of electric field sensors interchangeably connectable to a measuring device which has an indicator instrument and an optical output to which can be connected a repeater device by means of an optical fibre cable which thus does not exert a perturbing influence on the field being measured. The sensors are omnidirectional balanced devices in which the detector elements are constituted by suitably shaped metallic film deposits on dielectric substrates, and can be interchanged by a simple plug-in connection which also holds the sensor physically in position on the measuring device.

Abstract: A faucet has a sealing member clamped at its periphery and overlying an orifice through which fluid is to flow. Pressure applying means maintains the sealing member in sealing engagement with the wall defining the orifice. Upon removal of the pressure applying means the sealing member moves away from the orifice to permit flow.The pressure applying means is located in a valve body which is screwed into the faucet housing and acts to change the periphery of the sealing member. The valve body may be removed by removing the handle and engaging a pair of projections within the handle with a pair of ears on the valve body. The sealing member is thus unclamped and easily removed.

Abstract: A heat recovery system for the production of mechanical energy from a plurality of different heat sources at different temperatures comprises a plurality of heat exchangers associated one with each heat source, a plurality of circuits for a working fluid which traverses the heat exchangers, the circuits including expansion devices in which the working fluid is expanded and possibly vaporized to derive mechanical work from it, this being accompanied by a fall in temperature; the circuits for the working fluid have certain parts in common, such as the heat exchanger associated with the heat source at the lowest temperature, at least one of the expansion devices, a condenser in which working fluid vaporized in the expanders can be recondensed, and a circulation pump for driving the working fluid around the circuits.
Abstract: Porous film materials composed of polytetrafluoroethylene having an asymmetric structure are produced by stretching the film using a pair of revolving rolls which are heated to a temperature lower than the melting point of the film. Stretching is produced by revolving the two rolls at different speeds which also tends to produce a compressive force in the thickness of the film. The rolls are heated to different temperatures to produce a temperature difference of preferably 50.degree. C. or more. The combination of the compressive force and the temperature gradient in the thickness of the film is believed to produce the asymmetric structure in the resulting porous film materials which are characterized by a fiber structure in the surface which is different from that in the back.
Abstract: A monolithic support for a catalyst suitable for use in controlling carbon monoxide emission is prepared by forming a homogeneous, fluid semi-solid mass by admixing colloidal .gamma. alumina, .alpha. alumina monohydrate and ceramic fibres with fluidizing and binding agents, water and a mineral acid, said acid being used in an amount sufficient to convert said .alpha. Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 monohydrate into a gel, forming the mass into a body of the desired shape, drying the body to substantially remove the added water, at least 10% of said added water being removed at a temperature lower than 50.degree. C., and heat-treating the dried body at 800.degree.-1000.degree. C.
Abstract: In the automatic positioning of the end of an underwater flow line, particularly in deep water, on a base, the end of the flow line is lowered to a position adjacent a connecting sleeve. The end of the flow line is connected to a hauling cable extending through the sleeve and a pull is exerted on the cable to draw the end of the flow line into the sleeve. The sleeve is detachably mounted on positioning apparatus mounted on the base and pivotable relative thereto in azimuth and elevation to align with the flow line. When the end of the flow line has been received in the sleeve and locked thereto, the sleeve is positioned on the base, locked thereto and released from the apparatus which is withdrawn.
