  • Patent number: 4274959
Abstract: Waste water and sludge is supplied through an inlet 12 to a flotation basin 10 where a skimmer 14 collects floating solids and sweeps sunken solids into a bottom discharge trough. Water from the basin is drawn off through a line 16 and fed by pumps 18, 20 into an air pressurized container 26 through an ejector 24 which draws in and dissolves the compressed air in the water by aspiration or eduction. The air saturated water is then fed back into the basin through valves 42, 44 where the reduced pressure releases the air in the form of micro-bubbles, which reduce the surface tension of the waste water to release sludge particles and float them to the surface for skimming off.

  • Patent number: 4275311
Abstract: A power-generating installation comprises a plurality of modular power plants each comprised of an internal combustion engine connected to an electric machine. The electric machine is used to start the engine and thereafter operates as a generator supplying power to an electrical network common to all the modular plants. The installation has a control and protection system comprising a plurality of control modules each associated with a respective plant, and a central unit passing control signals to the modules to control starting and stopping of the individual power plants. Upon the detection of abnormal operation or failure of its associated power plant, each control module transmits an alarm signal back to the central unit which thereupon stops, or prevents the starting, of the corresponding power plant. Parameters monitored by each control module include generated current and inter-winding leakage current of the electric machine.

  • Patent number: 4274238
Abstract: The efficient drainage of flat roofs is facilitated by the inclusion in the construction of a flat roof of a drainage board, preferably of a bead material. The drainage board is provided above a water barrier layer and below a thermal insulation layer. Water falling on a flat roof passes readily through a protective layer of gravel or like material, through the abutting joints of the thermal insulation layer and through the drainage board. The water then flows on the water barrier layer to conventional water gulleys and downpipes.

  • Patent number: 4274553
Abstract: A spraying device for cleaning apparatus, plant protecting apparatus or the like including a hand tool connected via a conduit to a pressure and heat generator for providing a liquid or vaporous agent under high pressure. A switch lever is held in the on position during operation. The lever controls a switch, the activation of which causes a transmitter for electric or electromagnetic waves arranged in the hand tool to send a switch-on command to a receiver located near the pressure and heat generator. The receiver operates a switch for controlling the pressure and heat generator, whereby upon release of the hand tool, such as unintentionally in the case of a dangerous condition, the switch-on command of the transmitter is interrupted and the pressure and heat generator switched off.
