  • Patent number: 5535013
Abstract: An image signal compression apparatus which divides image data into plural blocks, encodes each block, orthogonally transforms the image data by each block, and outputs the transformation coefficients. Blocks which contain text and blocks which contain dot images are discriminated from the features of the absolute values of the AC coefficients, which are a subset of the transformation coefficients. One of plural quantization tables is selected for each block based on the discrimination result, and by adaptively quantizing the transformation coefficients using the selected quantization table, text images can be reproduced free of fuzziness, and good expanded images of the dot areas can be obtained with high compression by reducing the high frequency component.

  • Patent number: 5534162
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for removing liquids from biological waste by the employment of centrifugal force to separate the liquid from the biological waste particulate and into a container separate from a biological waste container, permitting the dried biological waste and removed liquid to be separately and conveniently disposed of. Preferably, a rotatable drum can be rotatably supported within an outer liquid-tight drum, and a disposable porous container, such as a bag made of porous material, can be placed within the rotatable foraminous drum. Biological waste can be placed within the porous, disposable container within the rotatable drum, and the rotatable drum can be rotated at a rate of rotation sufficient to substantially transfer unabsorbed liquid from the biological waste through the disposable porous container and the openings in the foraminous inner drum to the outer liquid-tight collection drum. The collected liquids may be disposed of by pumping them into a sanitary sewer.

  • Patent number: 5533428
Abstract: A wrench allows the user to apply sequential strokes to a rotatable element such as an hexagonal nut or bolt without removing the wrench from the element.sub.--. The wrench has a head with two jaws adapted to engage the rotatable element. A spring-mounted, retractable jaw member is linearly slidable within a slot in one of the jaws and biased toward the base of the wrench head. The retractable jaw member also has an exposed engaging surface on one side. The opposing jaw has another fixed engaging surface extending substantially parallel to the engaging surface on the retractable jaw member. The two engaging surfaces cooperate to grip a rotatable element and apply torque to the element to rotate it in one direction. On the return stroke, a relatively small amount of resistance from the rotatable element forces the retractable jaw member inward into its slot, allowing the wrench to rotate back around the element without turning it in the reverse direction.

  • Patent number: 5532789
Abstract: The image forming apparatus, in forming an image on the blank surface of a recording paper the one-side surface of which has an image already formed thereon for the purpose of promoting further utilization of the recording paper, forms on the aforementioned one-side surface of the recording paper a mark indicating unnecessariness of the image already formed on the one-side surface. This apparatus is provided with a marking unit capable of inscribing on the used surface having an unnecessary image recorded thereon a mark indicating unnecessariness of this image. This marking unit is actuated only when the fact that the reverse surfaces of recording papers have unnecessary image information already recorded thereon is detected, when the fact that the particular one of a plurality of paper feeding trays which accommodates used recording papers has been designated is detected, or when recording papers have been supplied from the paper feeding tray accommodating used recording papers.

  • Patent number: 5533034
Abstract: One data transmitter for transmitting a broadcast data onto an outside data bus and data receivers, whose number is "n", for individually receiving the transmitted broadcast data are provided. A single error signal line is connected in common to the data transmitter and each of the "n" data receivers. Each of the data receivers notifies an error detection to the data transmitter and the other data receivers via the error signal line with a wired OR connector when its own data receivers detects an error. Being notified of the error detection, the data transmitter re-transmits the data so that all of the data receivers re-receive the data. Accordingly, re-transfer per one data at a broadcast transfer is contemplated.

  • Patent number: 5530670
Abstract: In a semiconductor memory device of a multiple-output port type including a plurality of read buses, data in a write bus are sequentially written into write registers, and the thus written data are transferred to the even-numbered bit-line pairs of a memory cell array section, and then data are again written into the write registers, after which the thus written data are transferred to the odd-numbered bit-line pairs. Then, the data in the even-numbered bit-line pairs are transferred to read A registers which correspond to one of the read buses, and the thus transferred data are sequentially read into the read bus, and thereafter, the data in the odd-numbered bit-line pairs are transferred to the read A registers and the thus transferred data are sequentially read into the read bus. Thus, the total number of read registers corresponding to all the read buses is made equal to that of the bit-line pairs, and is accordingly smaller as compared with a conventional semiconductor memory device.

  • Patent number: 5530664
Abstract: In the case where a multiplier factor is a constant, if the number of the bits having the value of 1 in the multiplier factor is 3 or more and if it is larger than the number of the bits having the value of 0, a circuit for performing multiplication by using the logic NOT number of the multiplier factor, which is obtained by inverting all the bits in the multiplier factor by the logic NOT operation is generated. If the number of the bits having the value of 1 in the multiplier factor is 3 or more and if it is smaller than the number of the bits having the value of 0, the multiplier factor is divided so that an adder for adding partial products forms a well-balanced binary tree. Conversely, if the number of the bits having the value of 1 in the multiplier factor is 2 or less, an add shift multiplier for calculating partial products only with respect to the bits having the value of 1 is generated.

  • Patent number: 5530560
Abstract: In an image forming apparatus having a two-face copy mode wherein document images are formed on front and back faces of a paper, a direction of an image such as portrait or landscape in a document is set by a user or according to a document size, while a first margin is also set by a size or a document size for a document image on the front face in a reproduced image on a paper. A second margin for another document image on the back face is determined at a position opposite to the first margin. An image memory stores the digital image data. A rotation angle is set according to the document direction and the margin position, so that normal images can be observed in the front and back faces of a paper if the paper is turned over by fixing it at the margin. Then, the digital image data read from said image memory is rotated by the rotation angle. Then, the digital image data is printed on the front and back faces of a paper.

  • Patent number: 5527729
Abstract: On a silicon substrate, a silicon oxide layer, a first platinum layer, a dielectric film and a second platinum layer are formed, and then the second platinum layer and the dielectric film are dry etched, via a resist layer, in a 1-5 Pa low pressure region with a mixed gas of HBr and O.sub.2 as the etching gas. As soon as the first platinum layer is exposed, the unetched portion of dielectric film is etched off in a 5-50 Pa high pressure region, and then the first platinum layer is dry etched again in the low pressure region to form a capacitor consisting of a top electrode, a capacitance insulation layer and a bottom electrode in a semiconductor integrated circuit chip. Using this manufacturing method prevents the deterioration in definition caused by the use of a thick resist and the operation failure of circuit elements such as transistors due to over etching on the insulation layer.
