Abstract: A building including high efficiency transparent insulation and optical shutter solar collector (HETIOSSC) to effectively control heat loss and gain in a passively-solar climate control system. HETIOSSC includes a layer of protective glazing, a transparent insulation, an optical shutter, an optional solar radiation absorbing material and optional heat storage elements. When the building and its heat storage are too warm, the optical shutter layer becomes opaque to prevent overheating. During cloudy and cold winter days, HETIOSSC still has a solar transmission and insulation efficiency great enough to collect sufficient sunlight for heating. Location of HETIOSSC on the roof, rather than the walls, does not alter shape and orientation of a building.
Abstract: A voltage level of an output node is reversed by an inverter. An output of the inverter is used as an initial setting signal. A feedback switching transistor is also provided in an initial value setting circuit. Furthermore, there is provided a limiting device for eliminating an abnormal operation of the feedback switching transistor until the inverter starts a normal operation, in the event of momentary power failure or when the electric power source is quickly turned on after a very short break. Accordingly, normal operation of the inverter is assured even in such an abnormal condition accompanying momentary interruption of power supply, thereby surely outputting an initial setting signal.

Abstract: A semiconductor memory device comprises a main memory cell, a redundant memory cell, a redundant address data cell comprising a non-volatile memory which electrically memorizes an address of a redundant memory cell which replaced a failed memory cell in the main memory cell, a control circuit 15 and a redundant memory cell selecting circuit 16. The redundant memory cell selecting circuit serves to hold first address data which has been read from the redundant address data cell, and to compare the first address data with second address data for a read or write operation which is input via the control circuit and thereby select the main memory cell or the redundant memory cell.

Abstract: An infusion set for an intermittent or continuous administration of a therapeutical substance, such as insulin, comprises a cannula housing (1) with a soft plastic cannula (2) to be placed inside the body of a patient, where the cannula together with the cannula housing (1) form a through passageway the inlet of which into the cannula housing (1) is covered by a membrane. The infusion set comprises furthermore a needle hub (3) with a needle to be inserted in the through passageway of the cannula housing through the membrane. The infusion set comprises guide means for centering the needle relative to the membrane and the through passageway, as well as locking means (31, 32) for releasably interlocking the cannula housing (1) and the needle hub (3).
Abstract: Transgenic swine, and compositions and methods for making and using same, are provided. Central to the invention are porcine (Sus scrofa) embryonic stem cell lines and methods for establishing them. Cells of such lines are transformed with exogenous genetic material of interest and then used to provide chimeric swine, which have germ cells comprising the exogenous genetic material. The chimeric swine are bred to provide transgenic swine. Transgenic swine of the invention can be used to provide human proteins or peptide hormones or can be used as xenograft donors.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a thinfilm transistor array designed to drive an active-matrix type liquid-crystal panel to be incorporated in a liquid-crystal display device, and is to offer a thinfilm transistor array solving the conventional problems of disconnections possible between the display electrodes and the drain electrodes and short-circuits possible between the display electrodes and the data wiring. By these, high-quality images can be displayed with a high reliability can be obtained together with an improved fabrication process thereof. In order to accomplish these objectives of the invention, the display electrodes of said thinfilm transistor array are disposed between the gate insulation layer and the inter-insulation layer, and the display electrodes are connected to the drain electrodes by means of a data wiring disposed through contact holes provided through the inter-insulation layer.

Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes a scanning unit for reading image information, an image forming device for forming images corresponding to the image information, a memory for storing the image information read by the scanning unit, an identification device for identifying the users of the image forming apparatus, a setting device for setting the time period for maintaining the image information stored in the memory in accordance with the user of the image forming apparatus, and an erasing device for erasing the image information stored in the memory after the elapse of the time period set for each user by the setting device.
Abstract: A continuous method of making chewing gum base is provided wherein two continuous mixers are arranged in series. A higher viscosity portion including elastomer, filler, and elastomer plasticizer is continuously added and mixed in the first continuous mixer to form a blend. The blend is ventilated after leaving the first continuous mixer. The blend from the first continuous mixer is continuously added to the second continuous mixer. A lower viscosity portion including softener/emulsifier and, optionally, wax and additional elastomer plasticizer, is also continuously fed to the second continuous mixer and mixed therein with the blend from the first continuous mixer to form chewing gum base.
Abstract: A ferrite composition is created by adding a high Curie temperature ferrite, such as lithium ferrite, to a soft magnetic ferrite, such as magnesium manganese zinc ferrite. The composition is used in a microwave oven dish or laminate wrap to crisp or brown food by maintaining the food at a desired temperature during microwave operation. The high Curie temperature ferrite is preferably selected from the group consisting of lithium ferrite, nickel ferrite, copper ferrite, magnesium ferrite, strontium ferrite, barium ferrite, manganese ferrite, strontium zinc ferrite, barium zinc ferrite, and mixtures thereof. Additionally, the preferred process of making the new ferrite composition for use in microwave browning dishes includes the low-cost method of sintering raw materials in an air atmosphere. A browning plate including the ferrite compositions, and a microwave oven suitable for use with the browning plate are also disclosed.
Abstract: The invention is directed to a method and composition for treating carpet yarn and carpet to thereby enhance its repellency, and preferably to enhance its stain resistance as well. In one aspect of the invention, the method includes the steps of providing a carpet yarn comprising polymeric fibers. An anionic or nonionic fluorochemical compound is provided in an aqueous medium, the aqueous medium having a pH below about 3.5. The carpet yarn is immersed in the aqueous medium. The carpet yarn and aqueous medium are heated after which excess water is removed from the carpet yarn. The aqueous medium preferably also includes an anionic binding compound that acts to impart stain resistance to the yarn.
Abstract: A pipeline processor comprises a memory stage arithmetic unit, a data dependence detecting unit and a control unit. The data dependence detecting unit outputs a detection signal to the control unit when it detects the data dependent relationship between a load instruction LD and a subtraction instruction SUB to be executed next thereto. The control unit receives the detection signal to control such that load data to be loaded from a memory unit according to the load instruction LD is inputted to the memory stage arithmetic unit. The memory stage arithmetic unit executes subtraction by using the load data in a memory stage of the subtraction instruction SUB.
Abstract: An apparatus and method for measuring absolute measurements having two measuring interferometers and a tunable laser emitting a laser beam. The two measuring interometers each have their own measuring lines and are supplied with the beam from one and the same laser. A reference line is established from the arithmetic sum or difference of the two measuring lines and is maintained at a constant value.

Abstract: A dispensing device for dispensing at least two fluids comprises a housing (12,22) of a pistol-like configuration having an integral handle (50), in which a spring-biased trigger (60) is received. Within the housing (12,22) of the dispensing device (10), two syringes (80,81) are received and fixated, which syringes contain respective fluids to be accurately dispensed. Provided a cover (22) of the housing is closed, the motion of the trigger (60) relative to the handle (50) is transmitted to a toothed rack which cooperates with a propeller body (70) in a ratchet-like manner. The ratchet-like cooperation allows a uni-directional motion of the propeller body (70) and prevents a motion of the propeller body (70) in the opposite direction.
