Abstract: A packet relaying device, wherein a reception processing unit judges an interface used to receive an IP packet from a network, and records a reception interface identifier (RID) which is information for identifying the interface, in a packet transmission/reception management table, a route control unit records, in the packet transmission/reception management table, a transmission interface identifier (SID) which is information for identifying the transmission interface obtained by selection of a transmission path and the above described reception interface identifier (RID), in such a manner that the identifies are associated with each other.

Abstract: A method and system for enabling personal digital assistants (PDAs) and protecting stored private data. Specifically, one embodiment in accordance with the present invention includes a removable expansion card about the size of a postage stamp which plugs into a slot of a personal digital assistant. The removable expansion card, referred to as a personality card, is capable of storing all of a user's private information and data which is used within their personal digital assistant. By removing the personality card from the personal digital assistant, all of the user's private information and data may be removed from the personal digital assistant. Furthermore, the personal digital assistant may also be rendered totally or partially useless once the personality card is removed from it. There are several advantages associated with a personality card system in accordance with the present invention.

Abstract: One embodiment of the invention enables nodes or endpoints that have been involved with synchronization of data items to determine which version of a data item (if any) has priority over another version of that same data item. For example, one embodiment of the invention can include a method that can include the determination as to whether any data items have matching identities and conflicting priorities after the synchronization process. Provided a first and second data items have matching identities and conflicting priorities, a determination is made as to whether an indication had been made that the first data item is desirable over the second data item. Provided the indication had been made that the first data is desirable over the second data item, it is indicated that the first data item has priority over the second data item.

Abstract: There is provided a mobile communication device comprising an environment as a mobile communication device platform and an application execution environment configured on the mobile communication device platform. The application execution environment has a function of a first software interface, for receiving an operation regarding a wallpaper setting which is used by a wallpaper setting program as a default application operating on the mobile communication device platform, for a user setting application operating on the application execution environment. The mobile communication device platform has a function of a second software interface, for receiving an operation regarding the wallpaper setting which is used by the wallpaper setting program, for the application execution environment. An instruction for an operation regarding the wallpaper setting issued from the user setting application is reflected in the wallpaper setting via the first software interface and the second software interface.

Abstract: In a state in which an operation screen for operating a frame in a frame page has been displayed, whether a change occurring to a frame in the page different from the currently displayed frame is a change arising from an operation satisfying a condition that is regarded to represent a user's explicit intention to view the different frame or not is judged. If the change is judged by the judgment to be a change arising from an operation satisfying the condition, the display is shifted to a screen showing the page in whole display and notifying the user of the frame to which the change has occurred.

Abstract: An interface for integrating and presenting user notifications and alerts consistently on an electronic device such as a mobile device is disclosed. First, an application programming interface provides the segregation to multiple preselected levels of priority notifications and alerts from all applications on the mobile device. Second, the application programming interface provides for the ability to display the notifications and alerts in a consistent manner for the user to handle.

Abstract: An embodiment of the invention provides a method for scheduling an event. The method includes signaling a request from a first computer to schedule an event to a second computer. A schedule is then received from the second, the schedule includes indicators of available time periods in the calendar period from the second computer. A consolidated schedule is then generated. The consolidated schedule comprises information comparing the indicators of available time periods from the second computer with indicators of available time periods from the first computer.

Abstract: The invention disclosed is a method and system for the secure activation of web clipping applications upon a portable information device (PID). In an embodiment of the invention, the method first provides for preventing a user from accessing web clipping applications that are installed on the PID and located within installed software. The method then continues with a user registering the PID with a proxy server by using a registration application within the installed software. Upon the authorized registration of the PID with the proxy server, the web clipping applications are revealed to the user, and with the web clipping applications thus revealed, the user may retrieve information from the proxy server through the implementation of any of the web clipping applications. The invention further provides for a method and system for the secure access of a proxy server by a PID such that the recurring step of device identification can be eliminated.

Specifically, one embodiment of the present invention interprets the “gesture” of swiping the pen, from left to right, across a line-item of a record entry as a command to highlight the line-item and to select the entire record. Furthermore, a contiguous group of multiple records are highlighted and selected by selecting the first record, as above, and then continuing to swipe the pen down through the records, in accordance with another embodiment. Lastly, discontiguous records are selected by repeating the above sequence for two or more discontiguous groups of records. Previous selections are maintained until the user executes any other non-selection action.

Abstract: A method of managing downloading contents in a network system including a terminal device, a management server and a downloading site includes three phases of procedures. In a first phase procedure, the management server receives a request for downloading contents from the terminal device and performs a predetermined registration operation. Abstract: In a markup language document conversion system, the conversion server 150 acquires a PC markup language (ML) document from a PC web server 130 and subjects the document to rendering so as to check arrangement coordinates of respective display elements to be drawn on a display screen of a predetermined size. Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for synchronizing databases in a network environment. Specifically, the present invention pertains to a method of using a set of hierarchical rules to enable an efficient and speedy synchronization between multiple copies of a database. The present invention enables an “n-way” synchronization of databases where “n”, the number of databases synchronized, is essentially any number more than two. In one embodiment, the present invention provides rule-based, n-way, synchronization by selecting a focus copy of the database, comparing the data records of the focus copy against the same records in other copies of the database to identify those deleted and modified; removing all the records indicated to be deleted, modifying those to be modified, and adding new record identifiers in the case of multiple modifications to the same record.
