    Abstract: A method of preparing 2,4,6-triketohexahydrotriazines which comprises catalytically trimerizing an organic isocyanate at 60.degree.-150.degree. C. in an inert, polar solvent present in an amount of 5-40 weight % with respect to the quantity of said isocyanate, in the presence of 0.1-5 weight % of a catalyst of the formula ##STR1## or hydrated derivatives of said catalyst, wherein R is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, and Me.sup.+2 is a bivalent metal cation; interrupting the trimerization at a conversion of about 50% by cooling; and then isolating the 2,4,6-triketohexahydrotriazine.

    Abstract: Fine particulate expandable styrene polymers have coatings applied thereto by:(a) introducing the fine particulate expandable styrene polymers into a closed mixing vessel;(b) reducing the pressure in the mixing vessel below atmospheric;(c) preparing dispersions of the coating materials and heating the dispersions to about 30.degree. to 90.degree. C.; and(d) aspirating the heated dispersions of the coating materials into the mixing vessel while simultaneously mixing the dispersions with the particulate styrene polymers to form a coating thereon and drying the coated particles.

    Abstract: A method of purifying tertiary amines by removing sec. and prim. amines and/or their hydrochlorides produced in the manufacture of the tertiary amines. The impurities are removed by dissolving the impure tertiary amines in an organic solvent and the resulting solution is passed over absorbents such as aluminum oxides having a specific surface area of about 100 to 400 square meters per gram. The sec. and prim. amines and/or their hydrochlorides are retained on the adsorbents and pure tertiary amines are useful in the solvents or can be separated therefrom. The adsorbents are regenerated by passing polar solvents thereover to remove the sec. and prim. amines and/or their hydrochlorides.

A mixture of HBr/HCl is treated with a solution of an amine and the HCl is split off, by the action of heat, from the amine hydrochlorides in the resulting mixture of amine hydrochlorides and amine hydrobromides, and the HBr is then recovered from the residual amine hydrobromides with the aid of a base and optionally recovered.

    Abstract: A powdery polyurethane lacquer which comprises (a) a hydroxyl-group containing polyester resin with an OH number of 40-240 and (b) an .epsilon.-caprolactam-blocked polyisocyanate, selected from the group consisting of triisocyanatoisocyanurate of 3-isocyanatomethyl-3,5,5-trimethylcyclohexylisocyanate and mixtures of said triisocyanatoisocyanurate with monomeric or oligomeric 3-isocyanatomethyl-3,5,5-trimethyl-cyclohexylisocyanate; wherein the .epsilon.-caprolactam-blocked triisocyanatoisocyanurate has at least two blocked isocyanate groups and wherein the .epsilon.-caprolactam-polyisocyanate is present in an amount sufficient to cause hardening of said mixture of (a) and (b). The lacquer is especially useful for electrostatic coating of substrates.

    Abstract: Baking lacquers on the basis of a blend of hydroxy-group-containing polymers, blocked polyisocyanates and organic solvents which comprise40-70 wt. % hydroxy-group-containing polymers with hydroxy numbers between 40 and 240 and polyisocyanates blocked with cyclic amidines of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R are equal or different substituents selected from the group of hydrogen, alkyl-, cycloalkyl-, aralkyl- and aryl radicals, whereby the components are used in such amounts that 0.8 to 1.2 NCO-group equivalents are applied for each hydroxy group equivalent,0-2 wt. % cross-linking catalyst,30-60 wt. % organic solvent or solvent mixture, wherein the percentages of polymer, catalyst and solvent add up to 100. Pigments, colorants, flowing agents, gloss improvers, antioxidants and heat stabilizers may also be added. The lacquers are used for coil-coating lacquering in weather resistant single and double layer lacquering.

    Abstract: A method of manufacturing hydrogen chloride by splitting off hydrogen chloride from solutions of amine hydrochlorides. The hydrogen chloride is split off by heating the amine hydrochlorides at 100.degree. to 250.degree. C. in an inert, organic, essentially non-polar solvent having a boiling point at least 20.degree. C. above the temperature of heating while an inert gas stream is passed therethrough. The hydrogen chloride is then separated from the exiting mixture of inert gas and hydrogen chloride. The amine components of the amine hydrochlorides are tertiary alkylamines, tertiary aryldialkylamines, secondary arylalkylamines, primary alkylarylamines or mixtures thereof which contain 14 to 36 carbon atoms in the side chains bonded to nitrogen. Not more than one of the side chains of the amine component is a methyl group bonded to nitrogen and at least one of the side chains is an aliphatic radical, bonded to nitrogen, containing at least 6 carbon atoms. The inert solvents boil above 120.degree. C.

    Abstract: The process for the preparation of shaped bodies based on expanded styrene polymers comprising: the polymerization of styrene or a mixture thereof with at least one monomer copolymerizable therewith, the addition of an expanding agent, pre-forming of the resulting expandable particles, ageing of the pre-formed particles, and molding thereof in a pressure resistant mold, is improved in the decrease of the minimum mold dwell time by carrying the polymerization in the presence of 0.0005 to less than 0.01% by weight based on the styrene polymer of organic bromine compounds which give a chain transfer constant of at least 200 and at 100.degree. C. in bidistilled water the bromine compounds split off less than one molar % of hydrogen bromide per equivalent of bromine present in the molecule.

    Abstract: Process for the preparation of pure methyl tert.-butyl ether. Isobutene or isobutene-containing hydrocarbon mixtures are reacted with methanol in a molar ratio of 1:1 to 1:2 in the liquid phase at temperatures of between 30.degree. and 100.degree. C. on sulfonated, strongly acidic, macroporous organic ion exchange resins. After separation of the unreacted hydrocarbons, the reaction mixture is distilled under pressure; the methanol-containing distillate formed during the distillation is recycled into the zone of the reaction between methanol and isobutene; and pure methyl tert.-butyl ether is withdrawn from the sump of the distillation column.
