  • Patent number: 8631983
Abstract: A holder and vehicle storage system are provided for securely retaining objects, such as in the glove compartments of automobiles, trucks, boats, etc. The holder may be mounted to the inside of a glove compartment door such that it is out of sight when the glove compartment door is closed. The vehicle storage system uses a conventional latch mechanism to mount the holder to the door without the need for additional fasteners. An object may be retained within the holder through the use of two undercut tabs for snap-fit reception of the object. The holder and vehicle storage system may be used to hold electronic instruments having sensitive components that would otherwise be damaged during movement of a vehicle.

  • Publication number: 20130223472
Abstract: Systems and methods that facilitate calibrated temperature measurements are discussed. Such a system can include a target object that changes temperature, a test infrared (IR) temperature sensor that can make a first set of measurements of the temperature of the target object over a period of time, and a standard IR temperature sensor that can make a second set of measurements of the temperature of the target object over the period of time. Additionally, the system can include a calibration unit that compares the first set of measurements with the second set of measurements and determines an accuracy of the test IR temperature sensor based on the comparison.

  • Patent number: 8517482
Abstract: A friction controlled mechanism for use on a cabinet assembly is provided. The cabinet assembly includes a stationary structure such as a cabinet, a moveable structure such as a drawer that is moveable in relation to the stationary structure and the friction controlled mechanism. The friction controlled mechanism is attached to each side of the moveable structure. The friction controlled mechanism includes a frame member with a length and a friction based flexible member. The flexible member is wrapped around a perimeter of the frame member such that the flexible member is capable of traveling in opposite directions around the perimeter of the frame member during movement of the moveable structure toward and away from the stationary structure. The flexible member imparts a friction to side rails of both the stationary structure and the moveable structure to provide a controlled stable movement of the moveable structure.

  • Publication number: 20130212805
Abstract: A retractable bunk or bed is disclosed. The retractable bunk can be used in a sleeper compartment so as to optimize space within the cab. The innovation can include a shaft around which a suitably strong, yet flexible, material bunk can be wound. Thus, in a closed or “hidden” state, the material can be rolled up around the shaft and stowed, for example behind a door or within a compartment as desired. In an open position, the material is extended in a horizontal manner and affixed to retain the “bunk” position.

  • Publication number: 20120327410
Abstract: The innovation uses the response of media to electromagnetic (EM) signals in order to identify them. When EM sources are directed at a target medium, a response is obtained from an EM detector observing the event. By comparing a measured response to a library of known profiles, one or more likely candidates for the target medium can be determined.
