Abstract: An air blower including a rear housing defining a plurality of air inlet openings; a front housing having an annular peripheral portion secured to the rear housing, a central support portion within the peripheral portion and including a rear surface facing the rear housing and an oppositely directed front surface, and a grillwork portion extending between the peripheral portion and the support portion; and a fan assembly secured to the rear surface and projecting toward the rear housing, the fan assembly including an electrical motor and a fan blade rotatably coupled therewith, an electrical switch operatively connected to the motor, and an actuator operatively coupled to the electrical switch and projecting outwardly from the front surface. Mounting of the fan assembly on the central support portion simplifies assembly and minimizes external size of the blower.

Abstract: A portable electrical fan including a housing defining inlet and outlet openings for transmitting air flow; a fan blade disposed in the housing; a motor disposed in the housing and rotatably coupled to the fan blade; and an elongated support having opposite end portions attached to the housing and an intermediate stand portion shaped and arranged to support the housing on a surface. Also included are electrical controls connected to the motor and retainer means retaining the electrical controls fixed to the elongated support. This arrangement provides a portable electric fan in an efficient, low cost configuration.

Abstract: A portable humidifier unit includes a base defining a water reservoir and a humidifier unit mounted over the base and movable relative to the base to provide access thereto. The humidifier unit contains an electrically energized humidification mechanism for inducing dispersion of the water from the reservoir into the space to be humidified. The humidifier unit is provided with a manually actuated On/Off switch for inducing energization of the humidification unit in the switch on position and deenergization thereof in the switch off position. In order to prevent unsafe operation, the switch and base are provided respectively with a latch arm and cooperating latch receptacle. The latch arm and latch receptacle are so arranged that in the switch on position the latch arm engages the latch receptacle to prevent movement of the humidifier unit relative to the base thus preventing access to the interior of the humidifier while the humidification unit is energized.

Abstract: A humidifier including a base defining a liquid reservoir; a humidification mechanism for dispensing liquid contained in the reservoir; and a tank removably mounted on the base and having a bottom wall including a tube projecting into the reservoir and with a lower lip defining a fill opening, and a liquid discharge opening for providing a controlled discharge of liquid so as to maintain a given level of liquid in the reservoir. Also included is a cap engaged with the tube and having a cover portion closing the fill opening, and an annular gripping portion extending outwardly from the cover portion by the lip and upwardly adjacent to an outer wall of the tube so as to define therewith an annular cavity, and wherein the gripping portion defines control means providing liquid communication between a lower portion of the annular cavity and the reservoir.

Abstract: A humidifier including a base defining a reservoir; a humidifier unit mounted in an upright orientation on the base over the reservoir and movable to provide access thereto, the humidifier unit retaining an electrically energized humidification means for inducing dispersion of liquid and defining a discharge opening for discharging liquid dispersed by the humidification means; a circuit coupled to the humidification means and including an on-off switch for inducing energization thereof, and an orientation responsive switch for de-energizing the humidification means in response to movement of the humidifier unit to an orientation other than the upright orientation. Unsafe operation is prevented by the orientation responsive switch.

Abstract: A humidifier including a base enclosure defining a reservoir to be filled with liquid, an opening disposed above the reservoir, and a discharge orifice communicating therewith; a humidification unit mounted on the base, covering the opening and adapted to produce dispersion of liquid retained by the reservoir; the humidification unit being separable from the base along a joint extending around the opening; and a seal mechanism including a channel for receiving liquid disposed to form a seal preventing the passage through the joint of liquid dispersed by the humidification unit. This arrangement provides a vapor seal for power units that expel vapor through a distinct discharge orifice.

Abstract: A humidifier including a base defining a reservoir adapted to retain water to be evaporated and a cavity adapted to receive leakage; an evaporator for inducing evaporation of water retained by the reservoir; a tank removably supported by the base and having a bottom wall defining a discharge opening communicating with the reservoir and an inlet opening communicating with the cavity; and wall means surrounding the inlet opening and extending from the tank into the cavity. Liquid in the cavity produces a seal that prevents undesirable leakage from the inlet opening.

Abstract: An evaporator including a housing defining an air inlet, an air outlet, and a reservoir for a liquid supply; a blower for producing air flow in a path between the inlet and the outlet; a vessel retained by the housing above the reservoir and adapted to retain a liquid volume; a wick means retained by the vessel and comprising a source portion submerged in the liquid volume and an evaporative portion disposed in the air flow path, the wick means adapted to provide by capillary action liquid flow from the source portion to the evaporative portion; and a pump means for pumping liquid from the reservoir to the vessel so as to maintain the liquid volume therein. The output capacity of the evaporator is increased by pumping liquid from a reservoir upwardly to a supply vessel.
