  • Publication number: 20030196939
Abstract: A replaceable filter cartridge assembly for a liquid filter and a liquid filter in which such a filter cartridge is installed. The filter cartridge 10 is provided with a support element 15, and a seat 20 for a sealing membrane 19 is provided on the support element 15. The sealing membrane seals the inlet 22 of the housing via a sealing edge 21 that acts as a return flow barrier over the inlet. The sealing membrane 19 also has a radial sealing surface 23 to provide a seal between the support element 15 and the outlet port 24 of the filter. This permits the filter cartridge to be manufactured in a particularly cost-effective manner and assures simple mounting within the housing. Since only the filter cartridge, which can be pushed onto the support element 15, needs to be exchanged, very little material has to be disposed of when the filter is replaced, which further increases the cost-effectiveness of the filter in use.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for circulating coolant liquid between machine tools and a coolant filtering unit through an overhead return line. A small stream of clean coolant is diverted to a flush tank and the tank is pressurized, e.g., with compressed air. • Publication number: 20030172913
Abstract: An intake system (3) for an internal combustion engine (1) including an engine block (2), as well as an exhaust manifold (7) leading from the engine block (2), the intake system (3) including an intake tract (5) leading to the engine block (2), and having an air filter (4) and a throttle member is arranged in the intake tract (5). The intake system (3) also includes a secondary air system (8) which includes a turbine (10) and a compressor (11). The turbine (10) is subjected to the pressure difference before and after the throttle member in order to drive the compressor (11) which conveys air into the exhaust manifold (7) through a secondary air line (15) to oxidize the exhaust gases at least in the cold start phase of the internal combustion engine. To reduce the number of components and the space required, the compressor (11) and/or the turbine (10) is integrated into a housing (26) of the air filter (4).

  • Patent number: 6620090
Abstract: A free-jet centrifuge which, in contrast to prior art centrifuges which are braked by bearing friction, includes a device for braking the rotor when the oil pressure falls below a predetermined value. The rotor is mounted in a slide bearing (12), which simultaneously forms the centrifuge oil inlet (23), and also is provided with a roller bearing (19), which minimize bearing friction and enables the rotor to attain the highest possible rotational speeds. Friction partners (15a, 15b) are disposed on the centrifuge housing (10) and rotor (11) and are pressed against one another by a spring (20) when the oil pressure drops below operating pressure, to stop the rotor in order to minimize run-on of the centrifuge and the noise and bearing wear associated with run-on.

  • Publication number: 20030168390
Abstract: A liquid filter for removing contaminants from liquids such as lubricating oil, water or fuel, comprising a filter housing (10), a filter element (15), a support body (16) and a slide valve (17), which, when closed, prevents liquid from flowing from an unfiltered liquid area or from a filtered liquid area to a filter outlet (24). When the filter housing is opened, the slide valve moves axially and opens the filter outlet (24) so that the filter housing can empty. The slide valve (17) is detachably snapped together with the support body (16), which in turn is connected to a housing cover (12). This enables the slide valve to be detached from the support body, and reduces the level of maintenance required by the liquid filter.

  • Patent number: 6612325
Abstract: A control valve assembly comprising at least two control valves which may be used, for example, to throttle the air intake of an internal combustion engine. The assembly is provided with a centrally arranged, force-transmitting shaft (32). The control valves are formed by blades (15) in frames (16) produced by an assembly injection molding process. The control valve blades (15) can be molded onto the force-transmitting shaft (32). The resulting assembly can be mounted or installed as a unit. Alternatively, instead of using a single continuous shaft, shaft projections can be injection molded on the valve blades, which terminate in lugs which engage in a rotationally secure manner in sockets in an adjacent valve assembly so that the two assemblies rotate together as a unit. The resulting control valve assembly is easy to install and advantageously takes up only a little space.

  • Patent number: 6610203
Abstract: A liquid filter mainly intended for oil or fuel in internal combustion engines, in which the filter comprises a replaceable filter cartridge (17). The filter cartridge is housed in a housing having an essentially central symmetry comprising a housing base and a cover which is designed to be screwed on. In order to avoid leakage residual liquid when the filter housing is opened, especially if the liquid filter is mounted horizontally, a drain screw (22) is actuated before the housing is opened, and in order to achieve the highest possible degree of drainage, the drain screw is moved to the lowest possible position by rotating a threaded member (11) by at most 360°. Upon rotation of the threaded member, a sealing ring (13) ensures tightness in the base (10) of the housing in an area “a”. After all the liquid has drained out of the housing through the drain opening (23), the filter housing can then be opened to enable replacement of the filter cartridge without danger of leakage.

  • Publication number: 20030150783
Abstract: A liquid circuit for filtering a liquid, comprising a liquid storage vessel (10), a liquid pump (17), a consumer or user device (14), a filter element (23) and a controller (24). A heated liquid can be supplied at least partly to the filter element (23). The liquid circuit may be used in liquid systems in which a liquid, such as water, oil or fuel, is filtered and at least part of the liquid is returned to the storage vessel (10). The liquid is pumped in the liquid circuit from the storage vessel (10) by the pump (17) through lines (11, 13, 15, 16), filtered by filter element (23) and supplied to the consumer device (14). Excess liquid not required by the consumer device (14) is returned through liquid return line (15) to the controller (24) which directs the liquid either to the filter element (23) or the storage vessel (10), depending on the liquid temperature.

Abstract: A resonator for noise damping in a sound-conducting tubular channel (2) is provided with an actively controllable sound generator (4) which is arranged in a resonator chamber (12) to generate interference noise (16) to be superimposed on the tubular channel noise. The resonator chamber (12) is connected via a sound-transmitting opening in a tube wall (3) of the tubular channel (2) to the inside of the tubular channel. A measurement signal from a sound sensor (8) arranged in the tubular channel (2), containing information about the sound spectrum in the channel, is connected amplified, to the sound generator (4) with the same frequency and with inverse phase position. To amplify the active suppression of the sound level by the resonator with a resonator of the smallest possible overall size, the sound-transmitting opening in the tube wall is constructed as a peripheral annular gap in the tube wall.

  • Patent number: 6598854
Abstract: A flap mechanism includes elements for compensating tolerances and shrinkage of the flap. The compensating elements include a flap edge which is applied to the flap by assembly injection molding after the flap has cooled, thereby decreasing any gap produced between the flap and a surrounding frame by shrinkage of the flap. In addition the flap has a flap shaft which can be journaled in the frame through a conical region on the shaft such that axial shrinkage of the shaft to produce a mounting which is free of play. This construction makes it unnecessary to use additional sealing elements at the mounting locations of the flap, and the flap is also prevented from vibrating in its mounting which, in a worst case scenario, could lead to destruction of the flap.
