Abstract: A process for the manufacture of cellulose containing 2,3-dihydroxypropyl ether groups, the so-called glycerol ether of cellulose, together with borate ions comprises reacting alkali cellulose with glycidol of one of its derivatives reacting like glycidol under the reaction conditions, and treating the resulting product with borate ions whereby aqueous solutions of the obtained products are especially low in salt or are highly viscous, as well as the 2,3-dihydroxy propyl ether of cellulose containing borate ions produced by this process, along with an aqueous composition comprising water and a mixture of said 2,3-dihydroxypropyl ether of cellulose and borate ions.
Abstract: This invention relates to an improvement in an extruder with two press screws arranged coaxially in one another in an outer jacket and each carrying a screw thread for feeding various plastic materials, for example, granulated soap, to the press nozzle, where the outer screw is driven while the inner screw is stationary, and where the inner screw is in communication with the charging material in the area of the charging hopper through window-type openings in the outer screw. The said improvement involves a mixing element between the end of the press screws and the extrusion nozzle whereby the two strands being extruded are mixed.

Abstract: Azacycloalkane-2,2-diphosphonic acids having the formula ##EQU1## wherein R is a member selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and alkyl having from 1 to 3 carbon atoms and n is an integer from 3 to 5; as well as their water-soluble salts. The azacycloalkane-2,2-diphosphonic acids are excellent sequestering agents especially for alkaline earth metal ions. They are stabilizers for percompounds and are useful in the delaying of the setting times for gypsum. In addition, the compound are useful in cosmetic preparations such as toothpastes and mouthwashes where they prevent formation of tartar and plaque and are useful in therapy in the treatment of diseases related to the abnormal deposition or dissolution of difficultly soluble calcium salts in the animal body.

Abstract: Organic hydrazones (compounds which contain the =N--N=C= structure) are accelerators for aerostable anaerobically-setting adhesive compositions. They can be used with stabilizers. Preferred hydrazones are acetophenone hydrazone, methyl ethyl ketone hydrazone, methyl isobutyl ketone hydrazone. These provide rapid setting times with good ultimate strength, and have little adverse effect upon the storage stability of the compositions when access of molecular oxygen is permitted. Diacetyl hydrazone provides best ultimate strength.
