Abstract: In one embodiment, a selectable-rate spring comprises a flexure bar connected to a rotatable shaft, the flexure bar having at least one arched portion. The selectable-rate spring also includes at least one rotational contactor connectable to a link member, wherein the rotational contactor rotates about an axis while maintaining contact with the arched portion of the flexure bar. As the rotational contactor rotates, it changes the connection stiffness between the rotatable shaft and the link member.
Abstract: A microfluidic sensor includes a microchannel that includes a reaction site with a reagent and a sample inlet. A liquid substance is received at the sample inlet and travels by capillary action to the reaction site. A temperature sensor measures a temperature as a result of a reaction between the reagent and a chemical in the liquid substance. A controller is communicatively connected to the temperature sensor, receives the temperature measured by the temperature sensor, and derives a concentration of the chemical in the liquid substance from the temperature.
Abstract: A method of processing x-ray images comprises training an artificial neural network to process multi-spectral x-ray projections to determine composition information about an object in terms of equivalent thickness of at least one basis material. The method further comprises providing a multi-spectral x-ray projection of an object, wherein the multi-spectral x-ray projection of the object contains energy content information describing the energy content of the multi-spectral x-ray projection.
Abstract: Disclosed herein are magnetic storage devices and uses therefore. The devices comprise an injection pad and a nanowire extending from an outer edge of the injection pad. The injection pad and the nanowire of the disclosed magnetic storage devices have a geometry that is designed to optimize high density memory storage via low magnetic field domain wall shifting. The devices may be utilized, for example, for generating and storing magnetic domain walls for application in memory devices, sensor devices, and logic devices.

Abstract: Disclosed are dithio compounds that include a quenched fluorophore and a non-fluorophore peptide linked via a dithio bond to the fluorophore. The dithio compounds may be used in methods for detecting thiol-containing compounds or dithio-containing compounds. The dithio compounds also may be used as cellular probes where the peptide portion of the compounds targets the compounds to a specific cellular location.
Abstract: Disclosed are compositions and methods for modulating Dpy-30 binding activity. The compositions may include peptides or peptidomimetics thereof that are related to radial spoke protein 3 (RSP3) or absent, small, homeotic discs 2-like protein (Ash2L) and that bind to Dumpy-30 protein (Dpy-30).
Abstract: Three-dimensional visualization of biomedical datasets in an immersive visual environment includes creating a finite element mesh patient specific three-dimensional mode. Points from the finite element mesh are removed to produce a refined patient specific three-dimensional model. The three-dimensional model and simulation are interpolated onto a uniform rectilinear grid. The refined patient specific three-dimensional model and the simulation data are transformed to a scale of the IVE. The refined patient specific three-dimensional model and the simulation data are presented within the IVE with a three-dimensional visualization system.
