  • Patent number: 4896201
Abstract: A semiconductor radiation detector has an at least partially or even completely depleted base region of a first conductivity, to which a bias voltage is applied, and has at least one output or read-out electrode at which a signal is produced by the charge carriers generated by radiation incident on the detector. The read-out or output electrode includes a highly doped region of the first or a second conductivity, onto which an insulating layer and thereupon a conducting electrode layer are applied for outputting the generated or induced signals. The voltage application to the highly doped region of the read-out or output electrode is achieved through a high impedance through the base region of the detector, from at least one electrode of the same conductivity as that of the output or read-out electrode. Thus, it is simply possible to capacitively couple the detector to external circuitry even if these external circuits have a complex structure or arrangement.

  • Patent number: 4890454
Abstract: The wall of a structural component that is subject to high thermal and mechanical stress, such as a position control rocket drive, has a plurality of grooves in its surface for an improved heat discharge by radiation emission. The grooves are cut into the wall surface and have a substantially U-type cross-sectional shape with parallel sidewalls and a substantially rounded groove bottom. The heat emission efficiency is substantially improved by making the groove depth (t) to be about 100 .mu.m and the groove width (b) to be at least 20% of the groove depth, thus (t/b) is at least 5. Additionally, the maximally permissable groove shape tolerance over the entire groove length must be .+-.1 .mu.m and the smallest spacing between neighboring grooves is about 10 .mu.m.

  • Patent number: 4883242
Abstract: A packing sack or bag for holding a life jacket, providing an easy access thereto, preferably in an aircraft, has the shape of a hose with an open end (6) and a closed end (7). The closed end (7) forms a tab (8) to receive at least one securing element (9). A rip cord (14) fixed at one point (17) situated approximately at the middle of the length of the bag (2, 3, 4) and surrounding the extremity of the folded life jacket (16) turned to the side of the open end (6) of the bag (2, 3, 4), extends along the inner surface of the bag (2, 3, 4) and comes out through its open end (6). The bag may be directly suspended from a wall or a ceiling or may be placed into a container (1). The main advantage of such a packing sack is that the required manipulation to grab the life jacket (16) may be easily executed by a single hand.

  • Patent number: 4882007
Abstract: Preimpregnated fiber reinforced tapes, so-called prepregs, are dispensed and deposited in a molding and bonding apparatus by a device in which a supply spool or roller carrying the tape is supported by a carrier having an adapter for connection to an arm of a conventional industrial robot. The carrier also supports feed rollers for advancing the tape and a cutter for cutting the tape. The feed rollers are secured to a support which in turn is secured to a fixed member by guide elements and biasing springs for a vertical guiding of the support movement. All drive members are controllable, so that all functions can be performed under the control of a computer in accordance with a program stored in the computer. Thus, the tape dispensing, application, and cutting takes place substantially automatically.

  • Patent number: 4851858
Abstract: A reflector antenna is constructed for operation in at least two frequency ranges. For this purpose the concave surface of the antenna reflector body, which preferably has a paraboloid configuration, is provided with surface zones arranged in regular arrays or patterns. These surface zones provide antenna or reflector elements which are reflecting or transparent with regard to a particular frequency range or band width, while other surface zones of the antenna reflector surface are transparent or reflecting in another given frequency range or band widths. Thus, depending on the configurations and dimensions of these different surface zones one and the same antenna is capable of handling frequencies in a plurality of different band widths and different apertures.

  • Patent number: 4848903
Abstract: The optical axis of a guide beam projector operating in accordance with the reticle field modulation method, is measured by projecting the guide beam through a retroreflector into the optical axis of a sighting instrument. • Patent number: 4836473
Abstract: The pressure drag on the skin of an aircraft is reduced by rigidly securing boundary layer influencing members to the skin of the aircraft, including the wings, the elevantor and fin/rudder assemblies, and the body near the tail end. These members may be vortex generators and boundary layer diverters and are always located in the attached flow. In addition, if the members are placed upstream of any air intakes, especially flush air intakes, the air intake efficiency is also improved. The influencing members have an effective height above the surface corresponding, at the most, to the displacement thickness portion of the boundary layer.

  • Patent number: 4836024
Abstract: An impact sensor for detecting a collision of a motor vehicle or the like has at least two acceleration detectors, and a signal evaluating circuit for each detector for evaluating the output signals of the respective acceleration detectors. The evaluated signals are passed through a logic signal interpreting circuit to provide a control signal for triggering passive safety devices such as an inflatable air bag. In order to trigger the passive safety devices as quickly as possible in response to an impact or collision, and in order to determine the angular direction of the impact, several acceleration detectors having oriented sensitivity axes are provided, whereby the sensitivity axes of separate detectors are oriented in different directions. The signal evaluation and interpretation to provide the triggering signal make sure that only determined output signals of the acceleration detectors cause the intended triggering preferably only for frontal impact collisions.

  • Patent number: 4821636
Abstract: A cable bundle is lifted off the nail board for presentation to a binding or lashing tool. The lifting is accomplished by a claw which has two claw members, one is spring biased and initially slightly lifts the bundle off the nail board. The other claw member is driven by a motor to first come into engagement with the other claw and then to further lift the bundle. The lifting and presenting claw mechanism and a binding and lashing mechanism are both carried by a robot arm closely spaced to each other for cooperation. Both devices can be operated in response to a computer program control. Due to the lifting and presenting of the bundle, the binding can be performed automatically without the need for any spacers between the nail board and the conductor bundle.
