    Abstract: The invention relates to a novel, technically simple but efficient and high-yield process for the preparation of 2-n-butyl-2-ethyl-1,3-propane diol from 2-ethyl hexanal and formaldehyde by using a basic alkali metal hydroxide or earth alkali metal hydroxide catalyst. In the process according to the invention, cationic or neutral phase transfer catalysts are additionally used for promoting the reaction. The correct choice of the sources of the initial material components is also essential. 2-n-butyl-2-ethyl-1,3-propane diol is used, for example, in the paint industry in the preparation of pulverous paints.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a conductive polymer complex which contains a polyaniline or derivative thereof doped with a protonic acid. By the method according to the invention, a conductive polymer is obtained having substantially reduced acidity, sufficiently high conductivity level, and which is suitable, for example, for being melt processed in conventional plastics processing apparatus. The acidity of the conductive polymer can be reduced by having the conductive polymer contain both a metal compound and an additionally neutralizing compound. The obtained conductive polymer material, having a pH value of approximately 3-8, can be mixed with an insulating polymer to produce a conductive plastics mixture. The invention also relates to a method of preparing a conductive polymer that is more processable by incorporating therein a plasticizing agent selected from the group consisting of water, a C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alcohol, and mixtures thereof.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a conductive polymer complex which contains a polyaniline or derivative thereof doped with a protonic acid. By the method according to the invention, a conductive polymer is obtained having substantially reduced acidity, sufficiently high conductivity level, and which is suitable, for example, for being melt processed in conventional plastics processing apparatus. The acidity of the conductive polymer can be reduced by having the conductive polymer contain both a metal compound and an additionally neutralizing compound. The obtained conductive polymer material, having a pH value of approximately 3-8, can be mixed with an insulating polymer to produce a conductive plastics mixture. The invention also relates to a method of preparing a conductive polymer that is more processable by incorporating therein a plasticizing agent selected from the group consisting of water, a C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alcohol, and mixtures thereof.

    Abstract: A method for treatment of process waste obtained from the synthesis of thiophene or its derivatives, which method produces phosphorus pentasulfide of sufficiently high purity for recycling in said synthesis process, as well as a residue material suited for use as a raw material for fertilizers. In the treatment method, the process waste is subjected to vacuum evaporation in a combination heating/evaporation reactor at 500.degree.-700.degree. C. and under a partial vacuum of 0.01-0.2 atm. To improve the yield of the evaporating phosphorus pentasulfide, sulfur is added to the process waste. The evaporating phosphorus pentasulfide is condensed, and when desired, pulverized. The usable, phosphorus- and potassium-containing evaporation residue is removed from the reactor and cooled for further use.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a process for preparing tertiary alkyl ethers. According to the process the feedstock containing hydrocarbons is fed to a catalytic distillation reactor system, in which the isoolefines, in particular the C.sub.4 to C.sub.7 isoolefines, of the feed are reacted with an alkanol in the presence of a cation exchange resin in order to produce tertiary alkyl ether products. The reaction product containing the ethers is removed from the distillation system as the bottoms product and, if necessary, it is subjected to an additional treatment for producing a gasoline component. The unreacted alkanol is removed as the overhead product of the distillation. According to the invention, the distillate withdrawn mainly contains an azeotrope of C.sub.4 hydrocarbons and alkanol, the C.sub.4 amount of which at least approximately corresponds to the C.sub.4 hydrocarbon concentration of the hydrocarbon feed, a substantial amount of the unreacted alkanol being removed in the form of said azeotrope.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the preparation of 3-substituted thiophenes in which the substituent is a C.sub.4 -C.sub.18 -alkyl group. According to the invention, the preparation is carried out by allowing an alkali metal salt of a C.sub.4 -C.sub.18 -alkyl-succinic acid to react with a compound of sulfur and phosphorus, e.g. tetraphosphorus decasulfide, in an organic solvent at a temperature of 100.degree.-180.degree. C., the product obtained being 3-(C.sub.4 -C.sub.18 -alkyl)thiophene. The said reaction may be the last step in a process in which the initial material is maleic acid anhydride with which .alpha.-C.sub.4 -C.sub.18 -alkene is combined so that C.sub.4 -C.sub.18 -alkenylsuccinic acid anhydride is obtained, whereafter this is hydrogenated catalytically to produce C.sub.4 -C.sub.18 -alkylsuccinic acid anhydride. This is thereafter reacted with an alkali metal hydroxide so that an alkali salt of the C.sub.4 -C.sub.

In a complex according to the invention, component (A) and component (B) are combined in such a way that limited dissolution takes place at the interface between the two, whereby the advantages of both components are obtained in the complex. The invention also concerns a method of producing the complex and use of the complex together with a polymer matrix to form plastic materials having high electrical conductivity.

The charge can be achieved by arranging in connection with the nozzle an electrode, which together with, for example, the grounded melt, forms a static electric couple.

In the process, there is added, during processing in the molten state, less than 0.5 wt.-%, preferably 0.05-0.3 wt.-%, of a substantially hydrophobic aluminum silicate molecular sieve having a pore diameter of at least 5.5 .ANG., an Si/Al molar ratio in the crystal lattice of at least 35, preferably 200-500, and a sorption capacity for water at 25.degree. C. and 4.6 torr of less than 10 wt.-%, to the plastic material which subsequently is formed. The molecular sieve preferably has an average particle size not exceeding about 5 .mu.m. The plastic material is a polyolefin plastic and is preferably selected among ethylene plastics and propylene plastics.

    Abstract: The present invention concerns electrically conducting polymer blends, processs for production thereof, and fibers and films essentially consisting of electrically conducting polymer blends. According to the invention, the polymer blends comprise matrix polymers and electrically conducting polymer components possessing liquid-crystal properties. In particular, the liquid-crystal polymer components comprise a main chain incorporating conjugated double bonds, the monomer units of the main chain being linked to side chains which, together with the main chain, render the polymer liquid-crystal properties at elevated temperatures. The blends are prepared by melt blending a matrix polymer and a liquid-crystal polymer and by treating the blend thus prepared with a dopant to make the liquid-crystal polymer conducting. The polymer blends can be processed into fibers or films using conventional processing methods of plastics such as die extrusion, injection molding, injection molding, ram molding or film blowing.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a production method of lactic acid-based polyurethanes. In the first phase of the product ion, the monomeric lactic acid is polymerized into an oligomer, the molecular weight thereof being about 500 to 10,000. Next, the oligomer thus obtained is copolymerized with an isocyanate reacting with the free hydroxyl and carboxyl groups thereof into polyurethane with a high molecular weight. To make the oligomer react with diol prior to the copolymerization is unnecessary according to the invention. The lactic acid used need not be absolutely pure, and by modifying the process, various biodegradable end products can be obtained therefrom, which according to the invention are appropriate for the material of disposable packages, agricultural film or planting pots, or as a coating of fertilizer granules.

    Abstract: The present invention concerns a heterogeneous catalyst particularly suited to the metathetic reactions of olefins in liquid or gas phase. Such a catalyst generally includes catalytically active species of tungsten on an inorganic support. The catalyst in accordance with the invention is prepared by vaporizing a precursor of tungsten, such as tungsten oxychloride or hexachloride and then routing the vapor of the tungsten-containing reagent into a reaction space, where the vapor is brought to interaction with the support material at approximately 160.degree. to 500.degree. C. The vapor pressure of the tungsten-containing reagent is kept sufficiently high, and the duration of interaction with the support sufficiently long, to keep the amount of the reagent at least equal to the number of available bonding sites of the support, whereby the bonding of the tungsten-containing reagent to the support surface is determined by the surface properties of the support.
