  • Patent number: 6321082
Abstract: A method of directional radio communication in a mobile communication network between a first station (4) and a second mobile station (MS) comprises the following steps. Communication data transmitted by a second station (MS) is received at the first station (4). The communication data can travel via one or more of a plurality of signal paths and is received as a set of signals from one or more of a plurality of different beam directions. A first beam direction corresponding to the beam direction from which a first one of the signals is received by the first station representing a shortest one of the signal paths is determined as is a second beam direction corresponding to the beam direction from which one of the signals having the greatest signal strength is received. Where the first and second beam directions are different, communication data is transmitted from the first station (4) to the second station (MS) in both the first and second beam directions.

  • Patent number: 6317600
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for load control and a radio system. In the invention a load result describing the load is cell-specifically formed. The load result is formed either by comparing a signal strength of desired signals (23) and a combined total strength of interferences (13) and the desired signals (23) or by weighting a signal-to-interference ration with a bandwidth or a data transmission rate. The load result is compared with a threshold value of the highest load level allowed of a cell (1). The data transmission rate in the cell (1) is increased if the load result is smaller than the threshold value. The data transmission rate in the cell (1) is reduced and the establishment of new connections is avoided if the load result exceeds the threshold value. In heavy load situations a signal-to-interference objective is also changed in order to balance the load result.

  • Patent number: 6314085
Abstract: A traffic source requesting connection states about itself in accordance with the ATM specification the PCR (Peak Cell Rate), the SCR (Sustainable Cell Rate,) the BT (Burst Tolerance) and the desired probability of cell loss PLOSS. The CAC function uses these parameters for computing certain parameter ratios. These computed parameters or corresponding parameters closest to these are sought from a pre-formed table and the same table is studied to find out the equivalent capacity corresponding to the parameters. This capacity is named as the equivalent capacity of the source requesting connection and the source is allowed access and permission to send, if there is free link capacity. Otherwise the request is dismissed. The equivalent capacities of the table are defined by using large deviation approximation which is known as such and which has been developed for a bufferless queue and for homogenous traffic.

  • Patent number: 6308071
Abstract: A method and system for monitoring traffic in a mobile communication network are disclosed which identify geographically regions of high traffic concentration or “hot spots”. This is done to allow the traffic distribution within a given area to be analysed so that network operators can retrieve information concerning the places where more capacity is needed. The hot spots are located by analysing reports from the mobile stations to identify the most often occurring cell patterns. These cell patterns can be associated with geographical locations which can then be visually displayed to identify the hot spots.

  • Patent number: 6304875
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of handling the event recordings in a service database system. The database contains stored measurement tables (MT) which include consecutive rows (Ri). So that the activation values of individual objects can be changed or individual objects can be added/deleted at any time causing as little interference as possible to the measurement, the value of the activation parameter of the measurement object is stored on the row and the zeroing of the counter groups of the measurement object is performed during the recording and zeroing phase of the counters so that for each counter group of the measurement object the first processing after the activation of the measurement object in question is forced to be such that the recording of the counter group is blocked, but the zeroing of the counter group is allowed.

  • Patent number: 6304652
Abstract: Conference call set-up is conventionally controlled with special keys # and * of a telephone set. Today these functions are performed by means of intelligent network technology. A problem with standard CS-1 and CS-2 intelligent network architectures is that they do not allow merging of call segments initiated by a Service Control Point (SCP). According to the invention: in response to the messages from the service control function (SCF), the service switching point (SSP) creates a separate call segment for each B subscriber; in response to the creation of a call segment (CS1-CS3), the service switching point (SSP) sends a message about this to the service control function (SCF); in response to a message confirming the creation of at least two call segments (CS1-CS3), the service control function (SCF) orders the service switching point (SSP) to merge the call segments created.
