Publication number: 20100089945Abstract: An airless dispenser pump assembly includes a pump mechanism with an inlet valve that is configured to efficiently pump viscous fluids and that is able to be pre-primed when the pump mechanism is attached to a container. In one form, the inlet valve includes a seal member that seals an inlet port of the pump and an outer support member that secures the inlet valve to the rest of the pump mechanism. Two or more legs generally extend in a circumferential direction between the support member and the seal member in order to create a large flow opening for fluid flow through the inlet valve when opened and to rapidly close the inlet valve. The pump mechanism further includes an outlet valve that is configured to draw fluid back from a nozzle of the pump after dispensing in order to minimize build up around the nozzle.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 17, 2009Publication date: April 15, 2010Applicant: Rieke CorporationInventors: Brian R. Law, Jeffrey William Spencer, Robert D. Rohr, David J. Pritchett

Patent number: 7690526Abstract: A closing plug for receipt by a threaded flange that is assembled into a drum end includes an externally-threaded body for receipt by the threaded flange. A radial flange is arranged adjacent a first end of the threaded body and the radial flange has a modified hex shape, thereby providing six flange portions. An outer section of each flange portion is formed into an axially-protruding projection such that as the closing plug is advanced into the radial flange, the axially-protruding projections abut up against a portion of the drum end in order to limit the threaded advancement of the plug. The abutment of the axially-protruding projections occurs after the desired tightening torque on the plug as received by the threaded flange has been achieved.Type: GrantFiled: June 24, 2003Date of Patent: April 6, 2010Assignee: Rieke CorporationInventor: James A. Patent number: 7686194Abstract: A fluid dispensing system includes a closure assembly. The closure assembly is configured to enclose a container opening. The closure assembly has a fluid supply tube with an opening and a shut-off valve threadedly coupled to the supply tube. The shut-off valve has a valve member configured to close the opening in the supply tube upon rotating the shut-off valve in a first direction and to open the opening in the supply tube upon rotating the shut-off valve in a second direction. A cap assembly is coupled to the closure assembly. The cap assembly has a connector member with a fluid passage fluidly coupled to the supply tube. The cap assembly is coupled to the shut-off valve to rotate the shut-off valve in the first direction and the second direction. The configuration of the system eliminates the need for spring-based valves.Type: GrantFiled: August 2, 2006Date of Patent: March 30, 2010Assignee: Rieke CorporationInventor: Thomas P. Kasting

Patent number: 7641077Abstract: Certain pump dispensers, for example foam dispensers, are specially adapted for inverted use. One feature especially useful in a foam dispenser having both an air cylinder and a liquid cylinder with respective pistons is an intake conduit arrangement to increase the clearance of liquid from the container. An intermediate shell fits over the upright liquid cylinder body and carries an inlet valve positively urged upward to the closed position to prevent leaking. A conduit shell fits over the intermediate shell and creates an intake conduit extending down the side of the liquid cylinder to an intake opening lower down the pump body.Type: GrantFiled: May 8, 2007Date of Patent: January 5, 2010Assignee: Rieke CorporationInventors: Brian Robert Law, David John Pritchett, Jeffrey William Spencer

Patent number: 7614530Abstract: A closure assembly for a container, the container including a raised outlet defining a dispensing opening, includes a closure body having a nestable and extendable spout formed with a generally cylindrical section, a frustoconical section, and an invertible fold between these two sections so as to enable the closure body to be either nested or extended. The generally cylindrical section defines an outlet opening and a threaded closing cap is assembled to the generally cylindrical section for closing off the outlet opening. A retainer is used for connecting the closure body to the raised outlet wall and the frustoconical section includes a thicker wall portion, described as a memory band portion, for enabling the closure body to maintain a selected orientation upon deflection into the selected orientation in order to provide directional discharge of the container contents.Type: GrantFiled: June 12, 2006Date of Patent: November 10, 2009Assignee: Rieke CorporationInventors: Gary M. Baughman, Lynn A. Brooks

Patent number: 7575123Abstract: A container and closure combination according to one embodiment of the present invention includes, as part of the closure, a tamper-evident band. The container includes a neck portion defining a dispensing opening and including an A diameter stop. The tamper-evident closure includes a closure body and the tamper-evident band is connected to the closure body by a plurality of frangible elements. A plurality of locking tabs are included as part of the tamper-evident band and are constructed and arranged to abut up against the A diameter stop upon retrograde rotation of the closure body from the container neck. The tamper-evident band further includes a radially inwardly extending ridge that is constructed and arranged to prevent repositioning of a plurality of the locking tabs to an orientation wherein the plurality of locking tabs would avoid abutment with the A diameter stop.Type: GrantFiled: January 19, 2005Date of Patent: August 18, 2009Assignee: Rieke CorporationInventors: Richard A. Patent number: 7568585Abstract: A unitary capseal for a closure that is installed in a container includes an annular sidewall, a generally circular top panel joined to the sidewall, a snap-on annular rim formed adjacent a lower edge of the sidewall, and an annular sealing lip formed adjacent the annular rim. The cooperating closure includes a serrated flange, a closing plug for threaded receipt by the flange, and a sealing gasket positioned therewith. The container end is formed around the flange interlocking with the flange serrations and creating an outer annular channel that receives the annular rim for a snap-on assembly of the capseal to the container end that in turn positions the capseal over and around the closure. The sealing lip extends radially outwardly from the sidewall and includes a concave surface facing the container end for sealing off the interior portions of the closure from collecting debris.Type: GrantFiled: November 16, 2004Date of Patent: August 4, 2009Assignee: Rieke CorporationInventors: Gary M. Baughman, Robert D. Rohr

Patent number: 7520403Abstract: A closure assembly for a container including an internally-threaded annular flange, an externally-threaded closure plug that is received by the annular flange, and an annular gasket positioned between the annular flange and the closure plug for establishing a sealed interface. The container includes a container end panel that is formed over and around a portion of the annular flange and provides an inner axial wall that is positioned between the annular flange and the annular gasket. The clearance between the closing plug and the inner axial wall relative to the size of the annular gasket determines the degree of radial compression of the annular gasket as the plug is threaded into the flange. A radial lip of the plug is designed to contact an upper surface of the container end panel that is formed over the flange as a visual indication when the required tightening torque of the plug within the flange has been reached.Type: GrantFiled: August 22, 2006Date of Patent: April 21, 2009Assignee: Rieke CorporationInventor: Gary M. Baughman
