Abstract: The coating device features a first applicator which, to begin with, forces coating substance applied on the shell of a web roll (1), in a press gap formed between said roll and a press roll (2), into the web (W), thereby impregnating it. This makes it possible to apply with maximum uniformity and without web breaks and wrinkles, immediately successively, a second coating layer during the still wet condition of the first layer where, naturally, again a web guide roll (3) is provided.
Abstract: A hot roll glosser and method for the transparentising of resin-coated microencapsulated media includes a pair of heated pressing rolls, in which the roll which comes into contact with a resin surface is formed with an ultra-smooth silicone surface of low furface energy, and the glossing temperature of the rolls at the pressing nip is maintained below the glass transition temperature of the resin. Take-off rolls are disclosed for maintaining a tension in the web material exiting the nip to maintain a negative exit angle with respect to the silicone roll and to prevent adhesion and sticking to the roll.
Abstract: An inventive method may perform a plating the surface of the metals sheet without using a molten plating metal. This method successively melts a supplied solidus plating metal in close proximity of the passing metal sheet and adheres the molten plating metal as a plating film to the surface of the metal sheet, where the metal sheet passes upwardly and the plating metal is supplied through an upwardly-directed nozzle disposed near the passing sheet, and when or immediately before the plating metal is supplied from the nozzle, it is molten by a heat melting means. The molten plating metal forms a pool at a corner defined between the surface of the passing sheet and the tip of the nozzle, and the molten metal of the pool forms a plating adheres to the sheet surface and forms the plating film.
Abstract: This invention is concerned with methods for treating wet fir-woods or leaf-woods mainly for reduction of their moisture content and for preservation.The procedure of the invention is conducted in two steps. In the first step, the wet wood is kept in a bath of molten paraffin or a mixture of paraffin with paraffin oil at weight ratios from 90:10 to 10:90 containing 0.05 to 5 percent by weight of colloidal silicon dioxide at 80.degree. to 180.degree. C. for 10 to 50 minutes.In the second step, the wood is transferred into another bath of an emulsion consisting of 10 to 30 parts by weight of an aqueous urea/formaldehyde resin with solid content of 30 to 50 percent by weight in term of the solid content of the resin, 0.1 to 0.8 percent by weight of catalyst, 90 to 70 parts by weight of paraffin or a mixture of paraffin with paraffin oil at weight ratios from 90:10 to 10:90, and optionally 1 to 8 parts by weight of additives, preferably emulsifier, pigment, fungicide, and insecticide.

Abstract: Nodule formation in a continuous electroless copper plating system is minimized by independently controlling the dissolved oxygen contents on the plating solution in the bath and in the associated external piping. The level of dissolved oxygen in the plating tank is maintained at a value such that satisfactory plating takes place. At the point where the plating solution leaves the tank, additional oxygen gas is introducted into the solution so that the level of dissolved oxygen in the plating solution in the external piping is high enough to prevent any plating from taking place in the external piping and so that in the external piping the copper is etched or dissolved back into solution. At the end of the external piping, the dissolved oxygen level is reduced so that the dissolved oxygen level of the plating solution in the tank is maintained at the level where plating will take place.

Abstract: An apparatus for evenly coating back surfaces of building tiles and the like with mortar. It comprises a doctor blade, rails which support and guide tiles for movement below the doctor blade with said back surfaces of the tiles facing generally upwardly. The apparatus is adapted for receiving and retaining a supply of mortar on said back surfaces of the tiles adjacent one side of the blade. The blade is positioned a preselected distance above said back surfaces of the tiles whereby as the tiles are urged under the blade said back surfaces thereof are completely coated with mortar and excess mortar is scraped from the tiles with the mortar remaining on said back surfaces being of a substantially uniform thickness. In the method of coating back surfaces of tiles with mortar, tiles are placed on the rails with the back surfaces facing generally upwardly. A supply of mortar is placed on at least one of the back surfaces adjacent the blade.
Abstract: Method and apparatus for applying a dry-film drawing lubricant to metal blanks. Paired applicator and doctor rolls are positioned above and below the path of the sheets advancing through a roll box. The doctor rolls have end flanges overlapping the ends of the associated applicator rolls. A body of the liquid lubricant is maintained in the reservoir defined by each pair of applicator and doctor rolls, and following application of a coating of the lubricant to their surfaces, the blanks are conveyed between opposed heaters which raise the temperature of the coating to drive moisture therefrom. The blanks are conveyed between cooling units which lower the temperature of the lubricant coated surfaces, and thereafter through a transition zone to bring the temperature to the ambient range to prevent condensation thereon as the blanks are discharged to the atmosphere.
Abstract: A process for the continuous production of a surface-consolidated lumber, in which the surface layer of a lumber to be treated is hardened and consolidated, is provided. In this process, a lumber to be treated is coated with a thermosetting resin and is then fed between hot-pressing rolls in a plurality of pairs of hot-pressing rolls, and the lumber is continuously heat-compressed between the hot-pressing rolls and simultaneously the thermosetting resin is cured, whereby the surface of the lumber is hardened and consolidated.
Abstract: A coater apparatus is disclosed for applying a primary flow of coating material to a moving web of paper. The apparatus includes a frame and a first and a second guide roll rotatably supported by the frame. The first and second guide rolls rotate respectively around first and second rotational axes. The second axis of rotation is disposed spaced and parallel relative to the first axis. A backing blanket extends around and is guided by the guide rolls. The blanket defines an endless loop around the guide rolls such that the web of paper is supported by the blanket during movement of the web from the first guide roll to the second guide roll. The blanket is disposed between the web and the guide rolls. A short dwell coater is disposed adjacent to the web and between the guide rolls for applying the primary flow of coating material to the web.

Abstract: A convertible coating apparatus provides one or two side coating of a web having wet ink thereon to permit both printing and coating to be carried out prior to any drying operation. The apparatus includes a coating applicator roller in contact with a relatively hard back-up roller. The coating applicator roller is supplied with coating in both the one and two side operations while the back-up roller is supplied with coating only in the two side operation. Water is supplied to the back-up roller in the one side operation and the back-up roller has a hydrophilic surface which, when supplied with water, repels the wet ink on the web passing through the couple and prevents smudging and offset of the ink to the back-up roller. A method of carrying out the one and two side coating is also disclosed. A turning roller is also provided which guides the freshly inked web between inking operations without smudging the ink on the web.
Abstract: A device for blowing fine particles is provided which comprises a plural number of upstream chambers for jetting out fine particles provided against a movable substrate. Each of the upstream chambers may be provided with a gas exciter, and also may be provided with an energy imparter for imparting energy to the substrate.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling the sequential coating of motor-vehicle bodies using a preprogrammed painter-robot is provided. As a result of wear, the signal/response delay times of valves and other control elements deviate from the information stored in the program. According to the subject invention, the actual signal/response delay time is measured and compared with the stored information stored in the program. In the event of unacceptable deviations in the actual verses stored signal/response delay times, the actuating times controlled by the program are changed in response thereto, and signals warning of excessive actual delay time are given.

Abstract: A system applying a coating material to surfaces situated adjacent to or on live, high voltage electrical bus work or the like utilizes a liquified coating material stored in containers and is electrically isolated from potential ground sources by a dielectric barrier. A pump means draws the coating material from the containers and transports the coating material through a conduit formed of a dielectrical material to a moveable cart supporting an applicator boom thereon which applies the coating material to the surfaces. The pump means is driven by compressed air which provides the pumps with a nonconductive fluid drive source eliminating an electrical potential or a potential ground source in the system.
Abstract: A mask for providing and protecting the shear edge of a mold from contact with oversprayed powder directed onto the wall of the mold cavity. The mask comprises an air flow duct having an opening located adjacent the shear edge of the mold. First and second air flow control members are adjustably mounted upon the duct adjacent the air flow opening. The first and second air flow control members have opposed edges spaced apart so as to define an air flow gap therebetween, which air flow gap is operable to direct an airstream from said duct onto the shear edge of the mold so as to effectively mask that shear edge from powder sprayed onto the cavity defining portion of the wall of the mold.

Abstract: Apparatus and method for the impregnation of a continuous length of multifilament or multifiber yarns with a molten thermoplastic polymeric resin includes a member for spreading the multifilaments or multifibers apart during their immersion in a bath of the molten resin. The shape, configuration and location of the member facilitates the homogeneous impregnation, particularly with highly viscous melts, to produce a uniform and thorough encapsulation of the filaments or fibers.
Abstract: Disclosed is a device for making multi-layer crystals. It includes a holder and a plurality of masking elements adapted to be secured successively to the holder. The masking elements have cover pieces that overlie the area protected by the preceding cover pieces and have an additional cover piece. This produces a device having progressively truncated corner sections. There is thus formed a multi-layered crystal having portions adapted to be connected to electrical leads.
Abstract: A process is provided for the production of pulped cellulose material, preferably wood fibers, in particular up to a fiber length of 20 mm, with a high proportion of thermocurable resin, the process being suitable, in particular, for the production of fiber-containing moldings. In this process, the thermocurable resin, in aqueous, preferably alkaline solution, is added to a mixture of fiber particles and steam, and the steam is removed from the resin-coated fiber particles in a drier. The steam is removed from the mixture of steam and fiber particles after addition of the resin, and the fiber particles are subsequently dried in a drying stage to a moisture content of less than 12% by weight, in particular 3 to 10% by weight.

Abstract: Coating apparatus is provided for use in coating a sheet of goods which is carried on a counter-roller. The coating apparatus includes a coating zone which is formed along the sheet to be coated. At least one deflector is provided in the coating zone for deflecting the return flow of coating material deflected at the coating blade to a divergence angle of less than 90 degrees relative to the emerging flow of fresh coating material from the outlet port of the chamber containing the coating material. In general, angle of divergence between the two opposing flows of coating material is less than 60 degrees. In this manner, the amount of agitation and turbulence in the flow of material is minimized.
Abstract: An apparatus for removing a developer mix containing a magnetic component from a developing station of a non-mechanical printer or copier device. The developing station, at its lower portion, includes a channel-like discharge opening which extends over the full width of the developing station. A magnetic closing device is provided in the vicinity of the discharge opening, and functioning such that in its energized condition, its magnetic field acts on the developer mix to form a plug of developer mix in the region of the discharge opening which closes off the discharge opening. In the de-energized condition, the magnetic closing device releases the discharge opening whereupon the developing station is emptied by the action of a succeeding suction device such as a blower.
