  • Patent number: 5452635
Abstract: A punch for removing material from lead frames has a substantially rectangular body with an array of grooves along one side and a step removed on one end from the side opposite the grooves to provide an array of punch teeth extending from the body of the punch. The grooves provide a means of reworking the punch to provide a new array of teeth, by machining away all or part of the teeth and then extending the step in the direction of the groove to provide substantially the original length for the individual teeth. By providing a punch with groove length several times the tooth length, the punch can be reworked several times before being discarded.

  • Patent number: 5443196
Abstract: A fastener applicator, for example for cable clips, uses the kinetic energy of a flywheel rotated by a prime mover, preferably a battery driven electric motor, to drive a striker for firing a fastener into a support. An actuator which strikes the striker may be a fixed projection on the flywheel or be an element on the flywheel movable relative to the flywheel by centrifugal force to project the actuator from an inoperative position to an operative position for striking the striker. The drive from the prime mover to the flywheel is through a clutch or releasable drive coupling which temporarily disconnects the drive when the actuator strikes the striker so that the kinetic energy at the flywheel alone drives the striker and the prime mover is protected from the impact. A micro-processor measures the rotational speed of the flywheel and stops the prime mover when a pre-determined speed for the necessary kinetic energy is achieved.

  • Patent number: 5443554
Abstract: A positioning device for use with a table saw including a worktable with a transverse beam transversal to the saw, along which a workpiece stop member may slide. The device has an elongated support fixed to the transverse beam of the worktable. A plurality of block members are slidably mounted along the support and are lockable anywhere on this support. An alignment arm is connected to the stop member so as to be movable therewith. This arm has at least one protuberance that is engageable with any preselected block member to lock the stop member in a given position away from the saw. The device allows for easy and infinitely precise positioning of the alignment arm and stop member plate for a workpiece placed on the worktable. It further allows for a rapid "programming" of the positioning of a plurality of workpieces to be sawed.

  • Patent number: 5438897
Abstract: A stripper arrangement for a punch holder which uses an external thread on an end section of the punch holder body to mount either a plastic sleeve press fitted over the external thread or a replaceable steel stripper disc held against the end face of the end section with a steel retainer sleeve threaded onto the external thread. In a first embodiment, a soft tipped set screw secures the steel retainer sleeve. In an alternate embodiment, an O-ring engages the inside of the retainer sleeve to retard unthreading due to vibration, which O-ring also engages the plastic stripper sleeve to augment the friction exerted by the press fit over the external threads.

  • Patent number: 5438899
Abstract: A material-working tool control system includes a tool support and a guide linkage for controlling the position and motion of a tool or tool mounting platform. The tool mount extends substantially horizontally and parallel to an underlying work surface and permits motion of the tool platform to and from a vertical axis of rotation to which the mount is connected. Similarly, the guide linkage extends from the tool mount to another vertical axis of rotation in a substantially vertical plane, transverse to the underlying work surface. The tool support bears substantially all the vertical loads of the system, thereby relieving the guide linkage of this weight-bearing function.

  • Patent number: 5437214
Abstract: A miter saw includes a support mechanism for supporting a miter saw unit relative to a base in such a manner that the miter saw unit is both vertically and laterally pivotable. A position determining mechanism serves to selectively determine the position of the saw unit at any of positions including a vertical position where a saw blade is positioned substantially vertically relative to the base, and leftward and rightward pivoted positions where the saw blade is inclined laterally leftwardly and laterally rightwardly from the vertical position by a predetermined angle, respectively. The position determining mechanism includes movable side stopper members and fixed side stopper members on which the movable side stopper members abut, respectively. The movable side stopper members are mounted on a movable member which pivots laterally with the miter saw unit. The fixed side stopper members are mounted on a fixed member which is non-laterally pivotally movably mounted on the base.

  • Patent number: 5430943
Abstract: A cutting attachment for use with a vegetation cutting device. The cutting attachment has a body with a generally planar coupling portion and a central axis of rotation. In one embodiment, the body further includes a conical central wall portion extending radially outwardly and in a first direction from the coupling portion and the axis and a circular outer wall portion adjoining the central wall portion and extending generally radially outwardly therefrom. The central wall portion defines a conically-shaped self-cleaning inner cavity disposed symmetrically about the axis. The outer wall portion has a generally smooth outer surface which serves as a skid plate. An outer self-cleaning cavity is formed by an outer surface of the central wall portion and an inner surface of the outer wall portion. A coupling assembly, which can include an adapter having first and second clamping elements, is carried by the coupling portion for coupling the body to the cutting device to cause rotation about the axis.

  • Patent number: 5427006
Abstract: A saw guide for hand-held circular saws that aids the saw user in making straight cross and angled cuts. The guide utilizes a slotted saw track upon which the circular saw rests the base of the saw aligning flush against side walls of the track. The saw track is initially elevated above the workpiece by a spring loaded track support member and is brought in contact with the workpiece under a nominal downward force supplied by the saw user. Once the track is in contact with the workpiece, the saw is pushed along the track, its blade cutting through the underlying workpiece through a slot in the track, the track returning to its elevated position after the cut is completed. The track support member also employs a rotational coupling device with which the saw track may be locked in various angular positions relative to the workpiece for use when making angled cuts.

  • Patent number: 5408908
Abstract: A cutting machine for sheet material comprising a frame, a stationary knife on the frame and a reciprocating blade cooperating with the stationary knife. A motor on the frame is connected to a gear reducer that is in turn connected to a single push rod through a crank. The push rod is operatively connected to a torque tube that is connected adjacent its ends by link means to the reciprocating blade. Rotation of the crank by the gear reducer will actuate the single push rod and the torque tube operatively connected thereto to reciprocate the reciprocating blade. Spring means for assisting movement of the reciprocating blade are readily adjusted from exterior of the frame of the cutting machine. A rotatable cam follower on the reciprocating blade engages a guide block on the frame for moving the reciprocating blade into proper cooperative engagement with the stationary knife in use.
