The winch unit comprises a drum rotatably mounted on a shaft in the frame for unwinding and winding a flat band which at its free end has a fastener for connection to the tree, a control mechanism for the operation of the drum, and an engageable and disengageable ratchet mechanism for selectively preventing unwinding of the band.
Abstract: This adjustable storage rack is mounted within the interior of an automobile trunk and includes front and rear hanger assemblies each comprising a pair of transversely spaced bracket members attached to the trunk upper wall and interconnected by strap members. The hanger assemblies provide support for longitudinally disposed, telescopically related rail members providing bearing surfaces for stored articles. The rack is adjustable lengthwise, widthwise and can also be adjusted with respect to the elevation of the rail members.
Abstract: Bicycle carriers for buses and the like which include a locking device for each bicycle so as to allow the loading and removal of bicycles by passengers without requiring the attention of the bus driver. The bicycle carriers are provided with a quick disconnect mechanism for ease in fastening and removal from the bus, in spite of bus to bus variations, and may include retractable wheels in the form of casters providing for easy movement of the carrier when taken off the bus. Each bicycle support is disposed and configured so as to quickly guide a bicycle into the proper carrying position and to require minimum time and physical agility for loading and unloading. An additional pair of tail lights are provided on the carrier frame to avoid the effects of any partial obscuring of the tail lights on the vehicle. Various embodiments are disclosed, including embodiments utilizing coin operated and other locking devices.
Abstract: A car top carrier comprises spaced pairs of stanchions and a side rail between the stanchions. Each stanchion has a laterally extending opening therein and an insert projecting into said opening. A screw locks the insert in angularly adjustable position with respect to the stanchion. A cross rail and the inserts have telescoping portions forming a connection therebetween. The cross rail has the major portion thereof of non-circular cross section so that the angular position of said cross section with respect to said stanchions can be adjusted by adjusting the angular position of each insert with respect to each pair of stanchions.
Abstract: An electrically powered hydraulic winch has a main support containing a transmission connected on one side to a winch drum and connected on its other side to the output shaft of a hydraulic motor contained in a drive housing releasably bolted to the side of the support. A motor housing is fixed to the bottom of the drive housing and forms a fluidtight compartment containing a drive unit formed of an electric motor and a hydraulic pump, which latter is connected via a control unit in the drive housing to the hydraulic motor. A reservoir in the drive housing above the compartment maintains this compartment completely full of hydraulic fluid that is also used in the drive circuit between the hydraulic pump and motor.
Abstract: A flexible, non-elastic strap harness for carrying cameras and other portable instruments having a separate adjustable instrument grip which includes a flexible instrument encircling holding member and a sliding grip member for adjusting the length of said holding member.
Abstract: A notepad attachment for mounting a notepad onto the hub of a steering wheel of a motor vehicle includes a platform member with a recess therein, and an annular resilient mounting cushion which is disposed between the platform member and the hub of the steering wheel. An elastic cord or lace is threaded through annularly spaced holes in the base of the recess and round the back of the spoke or spokes of the wheel. The notepad is disposed in the recess of the platform, and a further recess is provided in the platform member for a pencil which is anchored to the platform member by a suitable cord.
Abstract: An article clamping device having an article inlet equipped with toggle link means mounted thereacross and pivoting to receive the article and thereupon holding the article captive until deliberately withdrawn. The withdrawal is facilitated by the flexibility of one of the device components.
Abstract: A watchband supporting a watch which provides a pliant and ductile characteristic permitting it to be flexed and maintained between a straight position and a position around a wrist. A ball point pen having a flexible barrel portion is accommodated within the watchband with its point extending from one end of the band. An end cap mounted on the band includes a pivoted knob which can selectively expose or enclose the point of the pen and can provide access to the ballpoint pen.
Abstract: A spare wheel and tire carrier includes a base having depending cushion members for contact with the automobile rear deck lid, a connected upwardly extending receiver for a wheel rim, an adjustable securement mechanism carried by said receiver, straps connected to said base and adapted for releasable securement to said trunk lid by a threaded rod and yoke which adjusts the tension in said straps.
Abstract: A generally rectangular basket, having a two-level bottom with lower level forward, is supported on a wheelchair, having horizontal foot and arm rests vertically spaced apart. Vertical legs are adjustably fixed to the forward and lower bottomed end of the basket to extend downward therefrom and engage the horizontal foot rest. Horizontal arms are adjustably fixed to opposite sides of the basket and extend rearward and over the wheelchair arm rests, the adjustable arms being recessed to fit over and around the wheelchair arms. The basket is thus displaceable only by a lifting force. The depending lower bottom increases carrying space without interfering with the line of sight of an occupant, and also without decreasing the stability of the wheelchair.
Abstract: A backpack and frame apparatus comprising a pair of tubular side bars and lateral cross-members for supporting a backpack and upper terminus of the shoulder harness. A supporting belt adapted to be coupled about the user's waist and hips includes downwardly projecting panels disposed on diametrically opposed sides of the belt and adapted to lie substantially below the waist of the user. A pair of lever arms are pivotally coupled at the lower end of each of the tubular side bars, the two lever arms being coupled to one another to provide for reciprocal movement of the arms about the pivotal coupling to the lower side bars.
