  • Patent number: 7042375
Abstract: A system and method is used to tune filters, for example, analog filters in a sigma-delta modulator ADC. A known dither signal is used, for example a digital dither signal. Through adding of the dither to the modulator loop, the digital output of the sigma delta modulator ADC contains a filtered version of the digital dither. This signal can be used to reveal characteristics of the modulator-loop, including characteristics of a continuous-time filter in the modulator. Therefore, using the known digital dither signal and the output signal of the modulator, the continuous-time loop filter can be tuned. The tuning can be done in multiple ways, for example, by using standard LMS adaptive filter techniques to estimate the actual response of the continuous-time loopfilter and adjust the continuous-time loopfilter to the desired response.

  • Patent number: 7038610
Abstract: An integration type A/D converter has two sets of integration type A/D converter sections which can be periodically switched over at a predetermined period, with one converter section integrating an input signal to give an integral output voltage and another converter section performing A/D conversion of the integral output voltage. Further, use is made of a residual time interval in the period of A/D conversion, for the integration of the ground voltage and a reference voltage and for A/D conversions of the integrated voltages. The inventive A/D converter permits accurate measurement of continuous integral values of a given input signal.

  • Patent number: 7035657
Abstract: A method and apparatus for delivering media to a group of target communication devices provides for multicasting media to the group of target communication devices to save network resources. The disclosed embodiments provide for a significant reduction in network traffic and media processing time by transmitting media in multicast transport mode, where a single copy of the media destined for a group of target recipients is transmitted to a wireless infrastructure over the multicast path. The wireless infrastructure replicates and transmits one copy of the media to each of the target recipients that are assigned to dedicated channels, but multicasts one copy of the media to the target recipients that are assigned to a shared channel.

  • Patent number: 7031736
Abstract: A method and apparatus for packet-data header decompression, particularly advantageous for use in connection with broadcast and multicast messages being transported through a radio telecommunication system operable according to the CDMA 2000 standard. When a mobile subscriber desires broadcast content from a content server, the mobile station sets up a PPP session for submitting the request and negotiating security protocols. When a subscription is granted, the mobile station receives broadcast content that has undergone header compression. In order to synchronize its decompressor, the mobile station receives a full header from a PDSN. The full header is preferably sent out on a periodic basis just for this purpose.

  • Patent number: 7030791
Abstract: In an A/D conversion device, one level shift circuit shifts an input voltage to the low potential side by Vt1, and another level shift circuit shifts the input voltage to the high potential side by Vt2. A multiplexer selects either of the shifted voltages to an A/D converter. In a correction mode, a correction data holding circuit holds values of reference voltages that are also A/D converted after being passed through the one level shift circuit and values of reference voltages that are A/D converted by being passed through the other level shift circuit, as correction values. A correction control circuit corrects the A/D converted value using the correction values.

  • Patent number: 7027827
Abstract: Remote units within a first communication system (121) utilizes frequencies (channels) from a second communication system (120) when placing a call. When a first remote unit (106) wants to call a second remote unit (107) using the channels, the first remote unit sends a base station (103) a list of top N traffic channel blocks from the second communication system along with the identity of the second remote unit. The base station then pages the second remote unit using a signaling channel reserved by second system. The second remote unit responds to the page with its list of best traffic channel blocks/chunks. The base station then picks the best overlap of idle channels from the list received by the remote units, and sends the list to the remote units instructing them use those traffic channels. Once the remote units receive the available channels, they can begin their call.

  • Patent number: 7024214
Abstract: Two computer systems in a network each have a local store that contains a copy of a data item that is to be synchronized. One of the computer systems may be, for example, a mobile device while the other may be a synchronization server. In order to determine whether to synchronize a data item, and what synchronization mechanism to use, one of the computer systems references a flexible set of rules that may be influenced by instructions from a network administrator or a mobile device user. The flexible set of rules takes into consideration the value of the data, the cost associated with synchronization, the security of the synchronization mechanisms, the security of the mobile device, as well as the location of the mobile user in dictating whether and how to synchronize.

  • Patent number: 7024195
Abstract: Location-based grouping according to the present invention enables grouping of wireless network subscribers (S1–S4) based on their location within a coverage area (24, 26) and offering services based on their respective group affiliations. Specifically, the location-based grouping defines a plurality of zones (Z1–Z3), identified by coordinates, within a network coverage area (24, 26) and assigns a dynamic network subscriber group number to each zone. The location-based grouping of the present invention requires that a service provider (14) maintain both a static network subscriber group database containing network-wide subscriber subscription parameters and a dynamic network subscriber group database containing zone-specific network subscriber subscription parameters, and that a network subscriber (S1–S4) register when the network subscriber enters into one of the plurality of zones (Z1–Z3) within the network coverage area (24, 26).

  • Patent number: 7020455
Abstract: The invention protects the security of a communication between a mobile radio and a radio access network (RAN). A connection is established through the RAN to support a communication with the mobile radio. The connection is configured with a first security configuration. One or more messages are sent over the connection using the first security configuration, each message having a message sequence number. When the connection needs to be configured to a second security configuration, an activation message sequence number associated with the reconfiguration is set. When the reconfiguration process is complete and the second security configuration is to be activated, the next message is sent over the connection with the activation message sequence number. Until that time and during the reconfiguration, when the mobile radio transmits a message with a message sequence number lower than the activation message sequence number to the RAN, it uses the first security configuration.

  • Patent number: 7019594
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for analyzing performance of a multi-stage radio frequency amplifier are described. The method simplifies the multi-stage radio frequency amplifier into equivalent input parts, output parts and mid-stage parts. The mid-stage parts are temporarily unset. Therefore, the equivalent input parts and output parts will be adjusted to make best gain performance and the mid-stage parts will be the next targets for analysis. Repeating the above-mentioned methods for decomposing the circuit can systemize the method for analyzing circuits and problems in each part of the circuit may be found more quickly.
