Patent number: 5969768Abstract: An implementation efficient video decoder suitable for use as a picture in picture decoder is described. In one embodiment, the video decoder receives primary and secondary bitstreams with the secondary bitstream including the video data intended to be displayed as inset pictures. The decoder uses many of the same circuit components on a time shared basis to decode both the main and inset pictures reducing the amount of circuitry required to implement the decoder. In one embodiment a preparser discards the majority of DCT coefficients in the secondary bitstream and the remaining data is variable length decoded and then variable length encoded using a non-MPEG compliant coding scheme prior to storing the inset picture data in a coded data buffer. Re-encoding of the selected inset picture data in this manner greatly reduces data storage requirements and simplifies the circuitry required to subsequently decode the inset picture data.Type: GrantFiled: October 26, 1998Date of Patent: October 19, 1999Assignee: Hitachi America, Ltd.Inventors: Jill MacDonald Boyce, Larry Pearlstein, Frank Anton Lane

Patent number: 5892539Abstract: A more efficient portable emission microscope system comprising a cooled CCD camera coupled to microscope optics for detection of photon emissions from integrated circuits. Portability is achieved with a small light tight box and rubber boot combination which are used in conjunction with a probe station or portable stand. The optics are modified to contain an illuminating ring of light emitting diodes for sample illumination prior to or after emission acquisition. Sensitivity is increased by elevating the substrate temperature. In operation, an integrated circuit is enclosed by a rubber boot. An illuminated reference image is then obtained with the LEDs "on," and a background image is obtained with the LEDs "off." The background image represents illumination noise. The temperature of the circuit is then raised while the circuit is biased. Temperature elevation is accomplished by installing small power resistors at the base of an appropriate burn-in socket.Type: GrantFiled: November 8, 1995Date of Patent: April 6, 1999Assignee: Alpha Innotech CorporationInventor: James Barry Colvin

Patent number: 5859660Abstract: A method and apparatus for non-seamless splicing of audio-video transport streams configured in accordance with MPEG-2 or other suitable techniques. A first transport stream is to be spliced with a second transport stream at a splice point. The first stream is configured such that the final first stream frame to be displayed will be a black frame or will have another suitable characteristic. Null packets are then delivered in place of the first stream transport packets for a predetermined period of time after the splice point. The predetermined time is generally greater than the sum of the splice decoding delay associated with the splice point and the maximum frame duration in the first stream. The transport packets of the second stream are then delivered. Null packets may be again delivered for a period of time sufficient to allow the final frame of the second stream to be displayed.Type: GrantFiled: February 29, 1996Date of Patent: January 12, 1999Inventors: Michael G.
