  • Patent number: 5661845
Abstract: High speed image search data is obtained from compression-coded moving image data for each frame/field). The obtained data is divided into ranges based on positions on a picture, and the range is divided based on the amount of codes. The divided data is multiplexed for each position in the picture as data is recorded at different positions on a track and a specific number of different frames are recorded alternately in each track. The multiplexed high speed image search data is recorded at specific positions on a recording medium. The picture ranges of frames are synthesized based on high speed image search data read from the recording medium, to construct a search image in units of frame. Further, a special reproduction transfer rate is set based on a difference between the moving image data transfer rate and the maximum allowable recording transfer rate. Based on the set transfer rate, the special reproduction image data corresponding to the moving image data can be obtained.

  • Patent number: 5659365
Abstract: In video motion vector generation and compensation, it is common for the chrominance sampling rate to be half the luminance sampling rate. When only a luminance motion vector is used, there can be rounding problems if either the horizontal or vertical motion vector (or both) is odd valued and the luminance motion vector is divided by two to generate a chrominance motion vector. For this reason, the luminance motion vector is provided with an additional bit for either or both axes if odd valued, and a rounding decision, if necessary, is made on the basis of the digital value of the additional bit.

  • Patent number: 5648855
Abstract: A varying speed reproducing method of digital video signals is disclosed. With this method, digital video signals are reproduced in a phase locked state from a magnetic tape by applying a phase servo to a tape running system using the difference between the number of a pre-set one of sync blocks reproduced by each tracing by a rotary magnetic head and the number of a target sync block as a phase error. Thus the pre-set sync block may be positively reproduced by each tracing by the rotary magentic head during varying speed reproduction of the magentic tape having the digital video signals recorded on the inclined tracks thereof. A reproducing apparatus is also disclosed. With the reproducing apparatus, digital video signals may be reproduced from the magnetic tape in a phase locked state by feeding back the phase error signal from the phase error signal generating means to the phase loop of the tape running system designed for running the magnetic tape during varying speed reproduction.

  • Patent number: 5631696
Abstract: A width of a illumination light being transmitted through a film is restricted within a distance between frames of the film. The film is transported to a position where only an area between frames is illuminated after the image of one frame is picked up, and a film transport is stopped. Then, the light is diminished or turned off when any operation is not instructed within a first time. Next, the film is transported in such a manner that a middle part of the frame is positioned below or above a photo detector when any operation is not instructed within a second time after the first time has passed, and the film transport is stopped. Then, a magnetic head is pressed against the film and the film is released from being held between the capstan and the pinch roller.

  • Patent number: 5619337
Abstract: A system records a single program from a multi-program transport stream that is encoded according to the MPEG-2 standard. The system demultiplexes transport packets from the multi-program transport stream and records the demultiplexed packets on a digital video cassette recorder (DVCR). The system includes circuitry in the encoder which emulates a buffer in the digital recorder that is used to hold the packets to convert the bursty packet data into constant rate data for recording. This emulated buffer controls the overall rate at which packets of the selected program are inserted into the multi-program transport stream by the encoder. As each packet is recorded, a time stamp value, representing when the packet was demultiplexed and a clock count value, representing a number of pulses of a high-frequency system clock signal that occurred during a predetermined number of bytes of the demultiplexed packet are recorded with the demultiplexed packet.

  • Patent number: 5592299
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for processing digital video data to reduce the amount of video data required to represent a video frame by representing a frame or pair of field pictures into a single field of a pair of field picture are described. To prevent the second field of the field picture from being displayed a DSM byte associated with the field picture is set so that only the field representing the video frame is displayed. In accordance with the present invention, a field, e.g., a transparent predictively coded field is used as the field picture which is not displayed. In this manner, very little data is required to represent the field picture that is not displayed. When the received frames are represented as pairs of field pictures a single field of the pair of field pictures is selected to represent the video frame with the other field picture being replaced with a field which requires very little data.

  • Patent number: 5563714
Abstract: Time-based compressed data representing a program is supplied from a local conditional access circuit to two recording signal processing circuits which supply the data to be recorded simultaneously in time-compressed form by a digital VTR and an HDD (hard disc drive). The HDD need only store enough data to allow the digital VTR to record the entire program and to synchronize the output of the VTR with the output of the HDD. Once the program has been recorded on the VTR, it is reproduced therefrom concurrently with the portion of the program reproduced by the HDD and, once synchronization therebetween is reached, the VTR-reproduced data replaces the HDD-reproduced data. The reproduced data is supplied to an MPEG decoder circuit to be output as a reconstructed program for immediate display.
