  • Patent number: 5802941
Abstract: A cutter assembly for severing pieces from a length of material and advanced into proximity thereto includes a driven anvil roll and a driven rotary cutter roll disposed in opposed relation with each whereby the length of material is advanced between the rolls for cutting. The cutter roll carries at least one knife blade on its periphery to cut the material against the anvil roll into predetermined lengths as it is advanced between the rolls. The at least one knife of the cutter roll is mounted at an angle with respect to the longitudinal axis of the cutter roll so as to engage the material in a shearing motion and the cutter roll is attached to the anvil roll and mounted so as to be movable away from the anvil roll against the force of resilient means as the knife contacts the anvil roll during rotation. The degree of such movement may be adjusted by the use of shims removably placed between the resilient means and the mounting point of the cutter roll.

  • Patent number: 5802938
Abstract: A slitting machine for cutting rolled material is disclosed which is maintained in position through use of a support frame. A support cylinder is unmovably connected to the support frame at one end. An expansion rod is centered within the support cylinder with one end extending through the frame and affixed to a lever. A rigid sleeve, preferably having a slick surface, is over the support cylinder. A motor is incorporated with a receiving channel receive the support cylinder is attached to the support frame. A flexible expansion ring is placed in contact with the motor, to allow it to revolve with the motor. A bearing and washer, with diameters greater than than the base leg of the rigid sleeve are placed between the connector affixed to the expansion rod and the support cylinder. • Patent number: 5802945
Abstract: A needle roller arrangement includes several needle rollers arranged in a freely rotatable manner in a rotary frame on a circular line which is concentric to its rotational axis. One of the needle rollers interacts with a brush roller for perforating a material web passing through the arrangement. In order to be able to lift the needle roller interacting with the brush roller away and replace it while requiring less energy, each roller is arranged inside the rotary frame such that it can be lifted off of the brush roller. The needle roller interacting with the brush roller is respectively provided with an arrangement for removal from the brush roller and application to the brush roller.

  • Patent number: 5799555
Abstract: The machine cuts a roll or log (L) of web material into a plurality of small rolls (R). It includes a unit (17) rotating about an axis (A--A) parallel to the axis of the log (L) to be cut. The unit carries a cutting blade (19) rotating about an axis (B--B) parallel to the axis (A--A) of the unit (17). A driving device (61, 63) moves the cutting tool (19) into a reciprocating forward and backward motion parallel to the axis of the log (L) to be cut. At least at the time when the blade cuts the log, the blade moves parallel to the moving log at a translation speed substantially equal to the feeding speed of the log (L), so as to allow the cutting of small rolls (R) without stopping the log (L).

  • Patent number: 5797307
Abstract: A portable combination saw which includes a generally horizontally disposed work platform having a circular opening formed therethrough. A circular support is rotatably mounted within the circular opening and has an elongated slot formed therethrough. A motor is movably mounted beneath the circular support such that the blade thereof extends upwardly through the slot and is movable along the slot. A fence mounts across an upper surface of the platform and the circular support. The fence has an arc-like cutout to provide clearance for the blade when it is moved along the slot. Locking devices enable the circular support to be fixed in position relative to the platform and the saw to be fixed in position relative to the slot in the circular support. A blade height and angle adjustment assembly allows the saw blade to be releasably locked at a predetermined angle and height relative to the circular support.

  • Patent number: 5791220
Abstract: A cutting device of packing apparatus includes at least three cutting blades arranged around the packing material expanding cylinder in a substantially equally-spaced manner. The cutting blades are rotatable about their own rotational axes in a synchronous manner for cutting off the continuous packing material along a circumferential slit formed on the cylinder. This simplifies the overall structure by eliminating a mechanism to move the blades around the cylinder. By using a number of blades rotatable in synchronization with each other, the time period for a single blade in contact engagement with the packing material to be cut off is substantially reduced and the efficiency of the cutting operation is enhanced. Due to the enhanced efficiency, the delay of time in the alternation of the feeding operation and cutting operation is lowered down.

  • Patent number: 5791221
Abstract: A media buffer capable of buffering two lengths of media, is fed a first length of media from an imagesetter at a first speed, and releases the media to a processor at a second speed. An input media sensor senses the media entering the buffer. Drive rollers take up the leading edge of the media at the imagesetter speed. Shortly thereafter a signal from an output media sensor located between the drive rollers and the processor, opens an input door to an input bin and stops the drive rollers. The incoming media continues to be fed by the imagesetter forming a first slack loop within the input bin. The imagesetter signals the buffer that the media has been cut, thereby actuating drive rollers to advance the media at the processor speed to a pair of rollers in the processor. A signal from the processor sensor opens an output door to an output bin. The drive rollers increase speed to transport the first piece of media from the input bin to the output bin thereby forming a second slack loop.
