  • Patent number: 6619934
Abstract: Several transmission embodiments selectively communicate rotary drive to an orbiting scroll to achieve capacity modulation. In these embodiments, when the motor is driven in a first direction, the orbiting scroll is driven at a rate which is equal to the motor speed. However, if the motor is driven in a reverse direction, the orbit rate of the orbiting scroll is reduced. The transmission ensures that the orbiting scroll member itself is driven in the proper forward direction regardless of whether the motor is being driven in forward or reverse.

  • Patent number: 6612812
Abstract: A semiautomatic electronic system for sensing and accordingly raising if such is determined to be required, the fluid level of a liquid present in swimming pools, animal water drinking troughs, or any other liquid containment vessels. For the accomplishment of this task an electronic circuit periodically, in accordance with a schedule prescribe by a user, samples the environment of the space in a liquid containment vessel to determine if a liquid level has fallen below a predetermine level prescribed by the user. If such is the case, either a pump or a solenoid valve can be automatically activated, so as to cause liquid to be added to the containment vessel, only until the liquid in the containment vessel is restored to the required predetermined level.

  • Patent number: 6609897
Abstract: A single-headed piston (22) is accommodated within each of a plurality of cylinder bores (13) formed on a cylinder block (13). Shoes (23) are disposed between a swash plate (11) and each single-headed piston (22). The rotation force of the swash plate (11) is transmitted to the single-headed piston (22) via the shoes (23). Each single-headed piston (22) makes a reciprocating motion within the cylinder bore (131) accompanied by the rotation of the swash plate (11). A rotary shaft (16) fixed to the swash plate (11) is driven by a motor (21).

  • Patent number: 6609899
Abstract: This invention is directed to a locomotive air compressor that includes a detachable bearing housing that houses an outboard crankshaft bearing. The bearing housing includes a flange, a tapered housing and a bearing retainer. The housing also includes a central bore to allow for the passage of a crankshaft and an annular recess which supports the outboard crankshaft bearing. The addition of an outboard crankshaft support bearing allows the placement of the bearing closer to the electric motor, eliminating deflections that are inherent with extended, unsupported crankshafts. The elimination of crankshaft deflections allows the use of more efficient electric motors that have a smaller air gap between the rotor and the stator. The bearing housing is detachable to allow access to the bearings in the crankcase for easy servicing.

  • Patent number: 6607368
Abstract: A linear pump for pumping a fluid includes a generally tubular shaped bladder 50 sealingly engaged on each end to an end cap 20, 25, forming an inner chamber 14, and including each of an inlet 70 and an outlet 75 inner chamber check valve to fluidly interconnect the inner chamber with the fluid. Each of a plurality of linear motors 40 each may be connected on one end to a respective support rib 30 and on an opposing end pivotally connected to one of the end caps. The support ribs are flexible and have a central portion of the rib engaged with a central portion of the bladder. The plurality of linear motors may be selectively actuated to cause the plurality of support ribs to alternately flex and/or straighten out such that the bladder is condensed or expanded respectively to effect a change in volume of the inner chamber, thereby drawing in or displacing fluid. Bladder extensions 160 may be used to slidably connect the bladder to a respective rib.

  • Patent number: 6607366
Abstract: An unloader system is provided for a reciprocating gas compressor. The system includes an unloader valve assembly including a valve member controlling flow between compressor cylinder and a clearance bottle. Opening and closing of the valve member is controlled by manipulating a control pressure acting through a manifold against the stem of the valve member by means of a pressure regulator connected in series with a pressure source. When the pressure in the compressor cylinder acting on the heads of the poppet valve members exceeds the control pressure acting on the stems, the poppet valve members open, partially unloading the compressor.

  • Patent number: 6604915
Abstract: The invention disclosed is a compact, high efficiency, smart material element driven hydraulic pump comprising a diaphragm, a face plate coupled to and spanning across the diaphragm, and a smart material element. The diaphragm comprises on a first side a recess and a stiff face-seal surface surrounding the recess. On the second side of the diaphragm is a stiff center pedestal and a flexure means attached to the periphery of the center pedestal. The diaphragm and face plate coupled together form a chamber that is dynamically sealed by contact of the face-seal surface against the face plate and such chamber's compliance is primarily and effectively within the flexure means within the diaphragm. A smart material element is positioned and constrained against the stiff center pedestal such that extension and contraction of the smart material element deforms the diaphragm such that the pumping chamber compresses and expands through compliance and deformation within the flexure means alone.

  • Patent number: 6599108
Abstract: A vacuum pump comprises a pump case having an interior space, a rotor disposed in the interior space of the pump case, and a thread stator disposed in the interior space of the pump case and opposite to an outer peripheral surface of the rotor. At least one heater is arranged in the thread stator for heating the interior space of the pump case. An output device outputs a parameter constituting a factor for determining a temperature of the rotor. A memory stores a database containing information corresponding to a relationship between the parameter output by the output device and a preselected temperature of the heater. A controller inputs the parameter output by the output device and selects from the database stored in the memory the preselected temperature of the heater in accordance with the input parameter.

  • Patent number: 6589027
Abstract: A double-acting reciprocating motor with a uni-directional fluid flow path comprises a piston disposed within a cylinder. Within the cylinder, the piston defines a first chamber between the piston and a cylinder base and a second chamber between the piston and a cylinder head. Fluid is introduced into the first chamber of the motor through an inlet port associated with the cylinder base. A pass-through valve controls the flow of fluid from the first chamber to the second chamber. An outlet valve regulates the draining of fluid from the second chamber through an outlet port associated with the cylinder head. Fluid pressure within the first chamber urges the piston towards the cylinder head when the pass-through valve is closed and the outlet valve is open. The piston surface facing the second chamber is larger than the piston surface facing the first chamber, so the piston moves towards the cylinder base when the pass-through valve is open and the outlet valve is closed.
