Abstract: A label/form is provided for attaching portions thereof to a mailpiece or shipping item particularly for special service handling of the mailpiece or shipping item. Detachable parts are provided on a sheet for subsequent attachment to the mailpiece or shipping item following printing thereof. The label/form includes a number of adhesively-backed label sections and a return postcard section for selected attachment at selected areas of the mailpiece or shipping item to identify the mailpiece or shipping item and simplify the task of designating special services for a particular mailpiece or shipping item. The label/form is designed so that information unique to the mailpiece, such as the identifications of the sender and addressee and special handling requests, can be printed on one side of the label/form only.

Abstract: A clip that is attached to a checkbook and that will hold the checkbook in an open condition to enable a person to enter information from the checkbook into, for example a computer, without having to hold the checkbook open with one hand. The clip has a first arm that slips onto an open checkbook and a second bar that is parallel with the first bar, with a third bar holding the first and second bars in spaced relation. The second bar has a fourth bar that is perpendicular to the second bar. The fourth bar pivots with respect to the second bar for storage.

Abstract: A transactional control system, a promotional system, and a redemption system including a set of a card and a removable and reusable label. The removable and reusable label having a first side printed with indicia thereon, and a second side coated with a reusable adhesive layer suitable for affixing the label to either a first or a second planar side of the card. The label, printed with a registration indicia thereon, can be removed from the transaction card without leaving residue on the card and can be affixed to a registration form for registration of a holder of the transaction card. Alternatively, the label printed with a redeemable coupon indicia thereon, can be removed from a promotion card and affixed to a transaction receipt for associating a particular transaction with the redeemable coupon. In another embodiment the label is printed and scored to form individually removable segments which can be removed from the redemption card and redeemed.

Abstract: A security system for a document utilizing a plurality of fluorescent snippets on the document with other encryption data printed thereon with visible and invisible ink that becomes bright when subjected to certain light. The system combines visible and invisible data that is encrypted, totaled and when subjected to a algorithm will match a selected component of said data.

Abstract: A drilling apparatus capable of removing drill chips from a workpiece under vacuum. The drilling apparatus includes an elongated drill having a body and a shank. The body has an axial through hole to receive drill chips. The shank has a plurality of radial holes communicated with the axial holes of the body. A vacuum adapter is hermetically placed around the shank and includes a cylindrical hollow body. The hollow body of the adapter includes a radial through port. The radial through port has one end communicated with the radial holes and the other end communicated with an external source of vacuum through a vacuum hose. A cylindrical extension unitarily extends from one end of the hollow body of the adapter and includes an annular projection. The shank has a corresponding annular groove to lockingly receive the annular projection in order to lock the adapter against axial displacement relative to the drill.

Abstract: A clip for securing cut sheets of image bearing medium to a notebook or picture book is provided that has an inverted U-shape. The clip is made of an elastic material that has a latch on either end to attach to a cavity in either a notebook, picture book, or similar device. The clip can be made symmetrically so that it can be operated while in a reversed orientation. By producing the clip as a detachable piece, repairs to a picture book become trivial because one can discard the broken clip and simply replace it without needing to discard the entire picture book. Furthermore, this type of paper binding means is ideal for children and the handicapped as the clips can be made of low enough rigidity to enable them to be simply operated, while reducing the odds of accidents resulting from sharp edges or metallic parts. Manufacturing efficiency is increased because the clips and the notebooks can be produced separately and sold disconnected.

Abstract: The invention relates to an identity card or similar data carrier having a copy protection element. The copy protection element contains a metal layer in which markings are incorporated with the aid of a laser beam by completely removing the metal layer in the area of the markings. The copy protection effect is produced by combining at least partial areas of an additional layer with the metal layer so that the marks are not electrophotographically reproducible, or not in accordance with the original, as such or in combination with the metal layer.

Abstract: A counterfeit-resistant document comprises a validation mark with a unique chemical signature that identifies the source of the document. The source of the document can be identified by detecting the unique chemical signature on the validation mark of the document, thus verifying the authenticity of the document. The unique chemical signature is applied to the document as ink, so that the validation mark provides information. The validation mark is latent in that the color of the coating matches that of the document, but the directional reflective properties of ink is more uniform than that of the document. In this manner, the letters cannot be readily ascertained by viewing them at an angle perpendicular to the surface of the document, but can be readily ascertained by viewing them at an angle different from that perpendicular to the surface of the document.

Abstract: An attachment for a folder includes a handle and a boot attachable to a folder. The boot has a boot recess in which a handle body of the handle is received when the handle is in a retracted position, in which the boot surrounds the handle body. A support member of the handle is attached to the handle body and is movably associated with the boot below the boot surface. Thus, the handle body is retractably extendable from the retracted position to an extended position in which the handle body is spaced from the boot back for enabling grasping of the handle body by a user.

Abstract: A removable chuck has a chuck member for holding a drill bit. Also, a mechanism is coupled with the chuck body to retain the chuck body to a drill spindle. The retention mechanism, in a first position, retains the chuck on the drill spindle and in a second position the chuck is enabled to be removed from the spindle.

Abstract: An apparatus for roughening a surface of a book block spine formed of a plurality of individual printed sheets clamped together. The apparatus includes a roughening tool which has a tool bit holder having a rotary axis and a radial face; a plurality of cutter tool bits mounted in a circular array on the tool bit holder and projecting axially from the radial face and together defining a cutting plane; and a drive for rotating the tool bit holder about the rotary axis. The apparatus further includes an arrangement for effecting a relative movement between the book block spine and the roughening tool in a direction of displacement; and an arrangement for setting the roughening tool relative to the book block spine such that the cutting plane forms an acute angle with the direction of displacement, whereby arcuate markings cut simultaneously into the surface of the book block spine along diametrically opposite portions of the circular array have unlike depths.

Abstract: A direct response mailing includes a response card and a set of stamps. The response card has a pressure sensitive adhesive patterned and applied to certain fields of the response card and has removable members placed on top of the pressure sensitive adhesive. The sheet of stamps is perforated into the individual stamps and are entirely unsupported with no adhesive applied to them. To formulate a response, a resident removes a desired set of stamps from the sheet and also detaches the removable members from the response card. The resident then places each stamp into a preferred one of the fields on the response card. Although the stamps have no adhesive, the pressure sensitive adhesive on the response card secures the stamps to the card. The direct response mailing does not have a remoistenable gummed sheet of stamps and thus benefits from not requiring the resident to lick the stamps and also has the benefit of being less prone to water damage during delivery in the mail.

Abstract: In order to provide a bookmark for a book, a method of making a book includes the step of applying a releasing adhesive to an inner surface of a front or rear cover having an initially greater width. The outer portion of this cover is then folded inwardly along a fold line so as to be in generally confronting relation with the inner surface of that cover to cause the width after folding to generally correspond to the width of the other cover. The outer portion of that cover is folded along the fold line so as to place the releasing adhesive in adhesive contact with confronting surfaces of both the folded outer portion and the remainder of that cover to adhesively secure them together after they have been folded into confronting relation.

Abstract: The drawing has a background (10) composed of at least a first region and a second region juxtaposed. Each of said regions comprises its own geometrical drawing so that the first region has a color density which is stronger than that of the second region, said second region forming a pattern. An overprint (20) corresponding to said overprint is printed over the second region, said overprint (20) comprising geometrical drawings different than that of said second region and in a color chosen to compensate the difference of color density between said regions, so that the safety drawing appears uniform and with no pattern to the naked eye, but said pattern is clearly brought out and in another color than that of the first region on a photocopy of the safety drawing.

Abstract: A wallet card comprised of front and back transparent exterior surface panels, front and back core panels, and an elongate internal sleeve is disclosed. The outward-facing surfaces of the core panels bear personal medical information, and a flexible strip thermometer is stowed within the sleeve. Registering apertures are provided in the core panels, these being sized to accommodate a plurality of microfilm chips bearing further personal medical information. Thus, a display window is defined in the wallet card wherethrough the microfilm chips may be read.

A removable locking element for securement to binding element about the area of reduced width to prevent the unintentional unbinding of the binder when secured to the coil and to allow the user to unbind the binder when the locking element is removed.
