  • Patent number: 6045159
Abstract: A holder for a book, such as a paperback or hard cover book, comprises a stiff flat member creased to provide a central stationary panel corresponding to the spine of the book, and a pair of pivoted panels corresponding to the front and back of the book. A spring assembly comprises a plurality of long concave thin metal members connected together by a strip of tape and connected to the stiff flat member by a pop rivet. The ends of the springs are received by a pair of plastic sleeves which are stitched to the stiff flat member. The stiff flat member is covered by a vinyl sheet in such a way as to have a curved edge providing a radius of at least 1/16". A transparent strap connects to the opposite sides of the book holder and presses open pages of the book against the flat stiff member. The curved edge prevents the transparent strap from being cut by the book holder.

  • Patent number: 6045305
Abstract: A helically fluted twist drill device is disclosed for cutting materials. The device comprises a shank having a first and a second end. A cylindrical core has a first diameter and a first and a second extremity, the core extending coaxially relative to the shank and from the second end of the shank, the second extremity defining a point. At least three portions extend helically outwardly away from the core so that the portions define a second diameter. The arrangement is such that adjacent portions define therebetween a surface of a helical flute. Each of the portions further define a helical bore connected to a source of a cutting fluid for permitting a flow of the cutting fluid through the bore from the shank towards the point. The arrangement is such that in use of the device, the cutting fluid conveys the materials from the vicinity of the point through each flute towards the shank. The first diameter has a dimension within a first range which is 20-35% of a dimension of the second diameter.

  • Patent number: 6030155
Abstract: The invention concerns a drilling tool for machine tools. The drilling tool comprises a drill body with two chip-conveying grooves which are delimited at their flanks by helically curved ribs. Disposed at the end of the drill body is a drill head which comprises two segment parts, which are separated from each other by opposite axially aligned chip spaces, and two cutting plates which are each disposed in a recess in the segment parts in the region of an axially parallel radial chip-guide surface at different radial spacings from the drill axis with mutually partially overlapping working regions. At a transition point, the chip-guide surfaces merge into the flanks of the adjacent chip-conveying grooves. Disposed at at least one of the transition points is a transition surface which is gradually recessed so that it widens the cross-section of the chip space and merges into a flank of the adjacent chip-conveying groove.

  • Patent number: 6012213
Abstract: Methods for forming a rib on a cannula for cooperation with a safety cover which securably and reliably locks the tip of a cannula in an interior chamber within the safety cover. The cover comprises an elongate body having the interior chamber and an axial through hole which extends along the entire length of the body, through the interior chamber and through which the cannula is slidably received. Displacing elements are positioned within the interior chamber, each of which includes a hole for receiving the cannula therethrough, and which displaces upon retraction of the tip of the cannula, thereby preventing subsequent advancement of the cannula tip. The cannula includes a thickened rib adjacent to the tip, and the safety cover should correspondingly include an annular section in the rear portion thereof. The through hole extending through the rear portion has a diameter which is smaller than the thickened rib of the cannula whereby the cannula tip may not be retracted from the safety cover.

  • Patent number: 6010284
Abstract: There is disclosed a boring machine capable of achieving high processing precision and high processing efficiency. A table is mounted on a bed for reciprocal movement in right and left directions. A workpiece fixing device for fixing workpieces W of a semi-cylindrical shape is mounted on the bed. Cutting tools P and Q for cutting the workpieces W, a workpiece carry-in device and a workpiece carry-out device are provided on the table. The table is moved to a left side, and the workpieces W are placed on the workpiece carry-in means. Then, the table is moved to a right side to transfer the workpieces W to the workpiece fixing device. The table is again moved to the left side, so that each workpiece W is subjected to a boring processing by the cutting tools P and Q. The workpiece carry-out device receives the processed workpieces W, and then the workpieces W are unloaded from the boring machine by a workpiece unloading device, and are fed to a subsequent step.
