  • Patent number: 5979037
Abstract: A mounting assembly and method for locating and assembling parts with a tight press fit uses an intentional design interference between two mating parts. Because of the interference fit, material is "crushed" or compressed when one mating part, such as a button frame, is forced upon the other mating part, such as a cabinet, and a tight fit is created. The interference fit is provided between first and second bosses and first and second mating holes, respectively, on opposite sides of each of the first and second bosses along a respective first axis, but not along a second axis that extends between the first and second bosses. Thus, a greater design tolerance is permitted in a direction between the first and second bosses and between the first and second mating holes, respectively. A third assembly part, such as a light guide, can be sandwiched between the first and second mating parts.

  • Patent number: 5975582
Abstract: Labels for displaying information and particularly well suited for automated application to containers having curved outer surfaces, and methods for forming the labels. The labels each include a multipanel leaflet, a laminate cover and adhesive for securing the label to the container. In certain embodiments, a leaflet adhesive patch is disposed on a lower surface of the leaflet and a laminate adhesive underlies a portion of the laminate cover extending beyond the leaflet. An adhesive-free gap is defined between the leaflet and laminate adhesives. In a further embodiment, first and second leaflet adhesive patches are disposed on lower surfaces of the leaflet. An adhesive-free gap is defined between the first and second leaflet adhesive patches. In each embodiment, the respective adhesive-free gap facilitates proper application of the label to the curved container surface.

  • Patent number: 5971403
Abstract: A tool bit holding device for use in percussion apparatuses such as electrically operated hammers is provided. The device includes a tool bit carrier, a front hand-operated grip, and a rear hand-operated grip. The front hand-operated grip is supported by the tool bit carrier so as to be movable in a lengthwise direction and a circumferential direction of the tool bit carrier. The rear hand-operated grip is installed rotatably on a hollow cylinder connected to a casing of the hammer. The removable of a tool bit from the tool bit carrier is accomplished by moving the front grip in the lengthwise direction and then turning it in the circumferential direction to release engagement between the tool bit and the tool bit carrier. The angular orientation of the tool bit carrier relative to the casing of the hammer is accomplished by turning the rear grip relative to the tool bit carrier to shift a angular relation between the tool bit carrier and the casing of the hammer.

  • Patent number: 5967561
Abstract: The computer disk label that forms the basis for the present invention comprises a sheet of flexible material including three portions. The first portion at one edge of the sheet has sections that are selectively removed or retained to form a first side of a tab. The second adjacent portion has sections that fold over the outer edge of a disk and adhere to one side of the disk if aligned with the removed sections of the first portions. Otherwise, sections of the second portion extend from the outer edge of the disk to form a side of the tab if aligned with retained sections of the first portion. The third portion of the sheet is disposed to engage and adhere to the opposite side of the disk from the folded sections of the second portion. The first side of the tab is folded down to contact and adhere to the second side of the tab thereby forming a tab that extends out from the outer edge of the disk.

  • Patent number: 5961149
Abstract: The covers and flaps of the cover construction of the book and toy assembly are opened and laid flat. Pop-up and fixed structures on the opened cover construction form a village, and a path or track passes through and by the village. The path passes over the front and rear covers, the spine therebetween, and the front and rear flaps folded out from the respective covers. A toy train stored in a storage compartment mounted on the front cover can be removed therefrom by the user, wound up, placed on the track and allowed to run around the track, and thereby through the village. Pressing a button on the inside of the book spine causes a noise making device to emit a train whistle noise to add realism and enjoyment to the train playing experience. Indicia and pictures on the flaps and readable with the covers open and the flaps closed tell a story about the train traveling through the village.

  • Patent number: 5957466
Abstract: A machine chuck (10) having a base (13) to be rotated about a longitudinal axis. Jaw members (20) move relative to the base (13) and radially with respect to the axis. A scroll member (18) is mounted on the base for angular movement relative thereto, which scroll member (18) engages the jaws (20) to cause the radial movement thereof. The base (13) has an annular passage which receives pistons (17) attached to the scroll member 18. Fluid under pressure delivered to the passage (16) causes angular movement of the pistons (17) and therefore scroll member (18) relative to the base (13). This angular movement causes radial movement of the jaw members (20).
