  • Patent number: 11482106
Abstract: Traffic signals that adapt to traffic conditions are provided with countdown timers. These countdown timers count down from some number towards zero, and indicate the approximate duration remaining before a traffic signal changes state. Since the traffic signal is continuously adapting to traffic conditions, the exact time before a state change occurs is not known in advance. Using a countdown algorithm, the countdown timers imperceptibly modify the countdown sequence in real time so that the traffic signal state change coincides approximately with the moment the countdown reaches its minimum count.

  • Patent number: 11417109
Abstract: An event detection system for detecting events related to vehicles based on sensor data from the vehicles. An event detection service on a network may receive streams of sensor data from vehicles and apply machine learning techniques to train models and to analyze the data to detect vehicle-related events. Supervised and unsupervised techniques may be used to train the models and to detect known as well as anomalous events. Events may be detected based on data from one or from multiple vehicles. The system may respond to events by alerting entities and/or signaling vehicle control systems to respond to the events. Trained models may be downloaded to vehicles; the vehicle computer systems can then locally detect events. The downloaded models can be further trained on the vehicles, uploaded to the network, and integrated into the network-based models to improve the performance of the models.

  • Patent number: 11407455
Abstract: The technology relates to enhancing the operation of autonomous vehicles. Extendible sensors are deployed based on detected or predicted conditions around a vehicle while operating in a self-driving mode. When not needed, the sensors are fully retracted into the vehicle to reduce drag and increase fuel economy. When the onboard system determines that there is a need for a deployable sensor, such as to enhance the field of view of the perception system, the sensor is extended in a predetermined manner. The deployment may depend on one or more operating conditions and/or particular driving scenarios. These and other sensors of the vehicle may be protected with a rugged housing, for instance to protect against damage from the elements. And in other situations, deployable foils may extend from the vehicle's chassis to increase drag and enhance braking. This may be helpful for large trucks in steep descent situations.

  • Patent number: 11396304
Abstract: A vehicle control method is disclosed. A vehicle control method according to an embodiment of the present disclosure can determine a drowsy state of a driver through AI processing of state information of the driver acquired from a sensor included in a vehicle. A processor can control a carbon dioxide concentration, a carbon monoxide concentration, a fine dust concentration and cooling efficiency inside the vehicle by causing the outside air to enter the vehicle or circulating the air inside the vehicle upon determining that the driver is in a drowsy state. The processor outputs a second warning and controls driving of the vehicle according to the second warning upon determining that the driver is continuously in the drowsy state. Accordingly, occurrence of accidents due to drowsiness of the driver can be reduced.

  • Patent number: 11360203
Abstract: Motion-detection systems are often used to detect presence of humans. Such motion-detection systems are often based on passive infrared (PIR) sensors. Unfortunately, such detection systems are unable to reliably distinguish between humans and other entities such as animals and moving heat sources. To address this issue, it is proposed to detect a presence of real time clock (RTC) devices in addition to detecting the heat sources to better determine whether a detected entity is a human.
