  • Patent number: 4741071
Abstract: In a wiper blade for a vehicular windshield wiper system, the main yoke is equipped with a spoiler constructed such that the overall height of the wiper blade is not enlarged and nevertheless the spoiler is prevented from touching the window pane to be cleaned. The spoiler is formed in such a way that the wiping pattern does not deteriorate at low or higher driving speeds.

  • Patent number: 4739532
Abstract: A bristle shaft device for use in disinfecting subgingival parodontal pockets, parodontal pocket edges and tooth surfaces, the device having a rotationally symmetrical gingival edge cup having an axis and an external periphery and a plurality of coaxial bristle shafts arranged coaxially in a ring and held in position by the cup. The shafts project from the external periphery and are formed as individual radially adjacent layers. One of the layers extend beyond the other layers so as to have an exposed end and can penetrate into a subgingival parodontal pocket up to a ligamentum circulare. Another layer adjacent to the one layer resists a bending of the exposed layer. The remaining layers are formed as multiple stepped layers that drop off in steps from each other in a radially outward direction providing further reinforcement. The one layer is radially innermost of the rest of the layers. Both the one layer and the adjacent another layer project beyond the remaining layers.

  • Patent number: 4738196
Abstract: An electrical air heater for a calender roll diameter control device is described. The heater comprises a tube for directing a flow of air along the inside of the tube from a plenum toward an object which is to be heated. An electrically resistive heating element is mounted inside the tube to heat the flow of air as it flows from the rear to the front of the tube. Since the air is heated by the heating element inside the tube, the air is coolest when it first enters the tube and hottest where it escapes at the front of the tube. Similarly, the heating element is cooled by the air and is, therefore, hottest near the front of the tube where the heated air escapes. The hotter front end of the heating element tends to burn out faster than the cooler end of the heating element. To prolong the life of the heater, openings are provided in the tube wall to admit a flow of cooling air at the hottest part of the heating element.

  • Patent number: 4738197
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for accomplishing smoothness and glaze to paper or board webs in a calender by leading a web through hot nips which are formed between cooperating rolls of different hardnesses and having adjustable temperatures, and where a gradient calendering of the web based on the temperature difference between the web and the rolls is brought about. In order to increase the efficiency of the gradient calendering and in order to achieve a suitable temperature difference between the web and the heated rolls, the temperature of the web is arranged to be adjustable before the web enters the hot nip.

  • Patent number: 4738001
Abstract: This application relates generally to animal tooth brushes specifically designed for cleaning the teeth of animals whose teeth and mouth shape is different from human, and whose gums are more sensitive. This will enable pet owners a means of offering oral hygiene which will aid in the prevention of periodontal and related diseases and the reduction of halitosis. The toothbrush comprises an elongated handle securing brush heads which have a plurality of bristle tufts. The heads and the tufts attached thereto taper vertically and horizontally to easily fit and reach the inner reaches of a pet's mouth. Individual bristles make up each tuft which have a diameter of in the range of 0.0025 to 0.005 to accommodate the sensitive nature of pet's gums as compared to those of humans. The tufts are arranged in columns increasing in length toward the handle to form a trapezoidal or tapered bristle surface which aids in preventing slippage from the pet's teeth into the gums, as well as fit the shape of the animal mouth.

  • Patent number: 4736484
Abstract: In a windshield wiper system for motor vehicles the contact pressure of the wiper onto the window is adjustable while the wiper is moving. For this purpose a multi-part actuator driven by an electromotive adjusting device and guided in a bore of the wiper shaft is axially displaced. The multi-part construction of this actuator compensates for faulty alignment, so that the adjusting mechanism operates with a good efficiency and enables rapid adjusting times.

  • Patent number: 4736487
Abstract: A force responsive, variable length push rod for connecting the motor and windshield blade of a windshield wiper unit. The variable response push rod includes a pair of members connected at one end to the motor and windshield blades respectfully and overlapped at the other end. Each member includes a plurality of lobes extending to the area between the opposed members and an elastomer adheres to the lobes and fills space between the plurality of lobes to form push rod. Interdigitized lobes and elastomer define the force characteristics of the push rod.

  • Patent number: 4733427
Abstract: The present invention provides an improved brush for cleaning underwater surfaces, such as swimming pool walls and bottoms, and uses a hinged wing that presents an inclined plane to the water when the brush is moved in its downward stroke. The wing thus acts to exert a desired force upon the brush which urges the brush against the surface being cleaned. On the return stroke of the brush, the hinged wing is caused to move to a position trailing the brush, where it avoids urging the brush back into contact with the surface that was just cleaned on the downward stroke. Rather, this trailing position helps to keep the brush off of the cleaned surface, and creates little or no drag for the return stroke.

  • Patent number: 4730361
Abstract: This invention relates to a hairbrush that comprises bristles or bunches of bristles arranged in parallel rows. The length of the bristles in each row differs from row to row in the direction in which the brush is moved through the hair of a person whose hair is being brushed so as to have the row of longest bristles lift or fluff each successive increment of hair it engages and have the successive rows of successively shorter bristles smooth down each successive increment of hair that has been lifted by the longer bristles in the previous rows that engage the hair.

  • Patent number: 4729144
Abstract: A retractable type wiper apparatus including a first crank connected to an output shaft of a reducer of a wiper motor and a second crank rotatably secured to the first crank by use of a first pivot shaft and so arranged that the second crank is maintained in a bent orientation at a predetermined angle relative to the first crank during the rotation of the first crank in the forward direction. The second crank is extended substantially straight relative to the first crank during the rotation of the first crank in the reverse directions. A stop member is provided on the first crank for defining a first locking recess and a second locking recess. A detent is longitudinally slidably mounted on the second crank. A spring means urges the detent selectively into the first and second locking recesses to thereby lock the second crank in place when the second crank is positioned at the predetermined angled position and at the straight extended position, respectively, relative to the first crank.

  • Patent number: 4729142
Abstract: A toothbrush for improved execution of the modified Bass method of cleaning teeth comprises a handle having a bristle mounting and disposed at a negative angle relative to the principal axis of the handle. In a specific example, a substantially rectangular array of bristle tufts is mounted on the angled end of the handle, the bristle tufts comprising four columns forming eight rows, the columns being substantially equally spaced at the base and the rows being substantially equally spaced. A forward edge grouping of bristle tufts is provided comprising a row of three bristle tufts. The tufts have from 20 to 150 bristles and the bristles are from 5/16" to 9/16" in length. The two outer columns of bristle tufts are angled inwardly at 7.degree. from the vertical and the two center columns of tufts are angled inwardly at 6.degree. from the vertical, to provide greater firmness against the teeth when the handle is rotated than when the handle is reciprocated along the teeth.

  • Patent number: 4724569
Abstract: A toothbrush capable of removing the sordes from the teeth excellently, and massaging the gums effectively without paining or hurting the same. The toothbrush has a handle, and bristles implanted into the handle, characterized in that all of the bristles have spherical portions formed at the free ends thereof, these bristles consisting of bristles of not less than two kinds of lengths, a difference between the length of the longest bristles and that of the shortest bristles being within the range of 1-4 mm, the bristles being arranged in such an implantation pattern that the bristles of an equal length do not gather locally so as to prevent the spherical portions thereof from contacting one another, whereby these bristles are not bent outward.
