  • Patent number: 5219273
Abstract: An air conditioning refrigerant compressor assembly includes a swash plate disposed on a drive shaft centrally within a housing. Three double-ended pistons are reciprocally supported on the swash plate within respective front and rear compression chambers. A pulley is freely rotatably supported concentrically about the drive shaft and connected by a flexible endless driving belt to a power take-off of an engine. A hub is fixedly retained on the end of a drive shaft. An annular torque cushion made of an elastomeric material is bonded to the hub and extends radially outwardly therefrom to support an outer ring concentrically about the drive shaft. An armature plate is fastened to the outer ring. An electromagnetic solenoid creates a field of magnetic flux when energized which draws the armature plate into frictional engagement with the pulley causing the rotary motion of the pulley to be transferred to the drive shaft which rotates the swash plate within the housing.

  • Patent number: 5217357
Abstract: A rotary vane pump has a hollow rotor and a stationary liquid distributor member within the hollow rotor center, within which member plural supply and discharge fluid paths are provided. An elliptical housing allows for any one pumping chamber defined between adjacent slidable vanes to undergo plural pumping cycles. The novel pump is suited to operate under conditions of low inlet pressure and high discharge pressure, and is usable with incompressible liquids. The elliptical housing is formed by a boundary ring located within a pump casing, the boundary ring having an elliptical inner surface and a cylindrical outer surface. The pump may selectively include structure for enabling separation of particulate material from pumped liquids by the use of centrifugal force. The particulate material enters an opening in the boundary ring, the opening being connected by a passageway in the pump casing to a removable particulate collection chamber connected to the pump casing.

  • Patent number: 5211551
Abstract: A modular motor assembly (11) is provided for use with a forward bearing package (13), the assembly including an endcap (15), a valve plate (17), a gerotor gear set (19), and a flange member (21), all of which are held together by a plurality of bolts (23). The bolts are located radially inward of O-ring seals (81,83,85), such that the bolts (23) comprise "wet bolts". Any leakage or weepage past the heads (27) of the bolts (23) flows into a sealed cavity (79) defined by the forward bearing package (13). The modular arrangement permits service and repair of the forward package without disassembly of the modular motor, and the smaller bolt circle diameter of the bolts (23) results in greater stiffness of the endcap (15) and flange member (21), thereby reducing deflection of those members, and increasing volumetric efficiency of the modular motor.

  • Patent number: 5205724
Abstract: Revolving piston compressor, which consists of two hollow rings when joined, form a tunnel or "sleeve" within which a curved piston circulates. A transversely disposed disc turns in synchronized fashion with the piston to form a wall which prevents the gas acted upon by the piston from travelling around through the sleeve. As the piston approaches the disc, the disc presents a "window", which allows the piston to pass. Once the piston has passed, the disc again forms a wall, closing the compression cycle. Because the piston cannot be physically engaged from the outside, it is moved via a moving magnet.

  • Patent number: 5201848
Abstract: An electrical downhole centrifugal pump for pumping fluids from a deep well includes a relatively small diameter pump housing which is suspended from a tubing string and including a series of impellers and diffusers. The impellers are mounted on a vertical shaft connected to a motor for driving the impellers relative to the diffusers on the housing. Upper and lower shrouds enclose the top and bottom surfaces of impeller blades rotating with the shaft. A first group of impellers are arranged to move freely longitudinally on the shaft while a second group are fixed to the shaft to prevent relative longitudinal motion. A lifting vane is formed on the outer surface of the upper shroud on the impellers which are fixed to the shaft. A net lifting force is thus applied to the shaft by those impellers of the second group having upthrust impellers to diminish the load carried by a pump shaft thrust bearing.
