Abstract: A method for transmitting signals, consisting of receiving a plurality of signals generated in an isolated region, the signals encoding respective individual payloads and payload envelopes. At least two of the signals operate under different protocols. The method includes deriving information from the signals on respective connections of the signals, and aggregating the payloads into one or more aggregated payloads. The method further includes transmitting the one or more aggregated payloads and the information via a satellite link to a receiver outside the region, the one or more aggregated payloads and the information amounting to less data than an aggregated amount of data in the individual payloads and payload envelopes. • Patent number: 7944817
Abstract: The present invention establishes reserved paths between nodes in a central packet network and in local networks attached to the central network. Each reserved path has a defined bandwidth and may be implemented as an LSP in an MPLS network or as a PVC in an ATM network. Associated with each reserved path is a virtual trunk group representing the same bandwidth as the virtual path. Telephony calls requiring media flows associated with a channel in the virtual trunk group will transport packets along the reserved path associated with the virtual trunk group. Access to the reserved path is limited to telephony media flows associated with a virtual trunk group to ensure adequate bandwidth at all times for the number of channels associated with the virtual trunk group. Backup reserved paths may be associated with the primary reserved path to provide the necessary redundancy required for voice-based telephony applications.

  • Patent number: 7929526
Abstract: A system and method for sending a cache line of data in a single message is described. An instruction issued by a processor in a multiprocessor system includes an address of a message payload and an address of a destination. Each address is translated to a physical address and sent to a scalability interface associated with the processor and in communication with a system interconnect. Upon translation the payload of the instruction is written to the scalability interface and thereafter communicated to the destination. According to one embodiment, the translation of the payload address is accomplished by the processor while in another embodiment the translation occurs at the scalability interface.

  • Patent number: 7929420
Abstract: A method and apparatus for learning the identity of VRRP backup router(s) for a VRRP master router enables the identity of VRRP backup routers to be determined quickly on demand, or enables a table of VRRP master and backup routers to be established over time. A VRRP query message type is defined as a type of VRRP message that will enable the routers on the network to be queried to determine which router(s) are VRRP backup routers for a virtual IP address associated with a VRRP master. The VRRP query message may be initiated by the VRRP master, a network management system, or another entity. The VRRP backup routers may respond with a VRRP response message, which is also defined as a type of VRRP message. The VRRP response message may be unicast to the VRRP master or network management system, or broadcast to enable a table of VRRP master/backup routers to be created.

  • Patent number: 7903585
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and system for determining devices connected to a private network through a gateway. A Network Management System (NMS) through the use of inquiries and Port Address Translation (PAT) commands is able to determine the topology of the network of devices within a private network and thus communicate with them. This is achieved through the use of Port Address Translation (PAT) initiated by the NMS to set a port for each device connected to the gateway.

  • Patent number: 7889725
Abstract: A computer cluster arranged at a lattice point in a lattice-like interconnection network contains four nodes and an internal communication network. Two nodes can transmit packets to adjacent computer clusters located along the X direction, and the two other nodes can transmit packets to adjacent computer clusters located along the Y direction. Each node directly transmits a packet to an adjacent computer cluster in the direction in which the node can transmit packets, when the destination of the packet is located in the direction. When the destination of a packet to be transmitted from a node is not located in the direction in which the receiving node can transmit packets, the node transfers the packet to one of the other nodes through the internal communication network for transmitting the packet to the destination of the packet through the one of the other nodes.

  • Patent number: 7872964
Abstract: A file transmission technique that does not make retransmission control complex even in a case in which a transmission error occurs is provided. A communication terminal executes a transmission job for transmitting an inspection indication file to the apparatus. When there is an error either in transmitting the inspection indication file or in receiving an inspection result file, the communication terminal executes a retransmission job after a predetermined time lapses. At this time, if there is a new transmission job generated for the same apparatus, the retransmission job is deleted. Alternatively, if there is a different retransmission job for the same apparatus, a retransmission job that has been generated first is deleted.

  • Patent number: 7835297
Abstract: Element managers and processes retrieve information from a first packet switch. The information is derived from layer-two (data link layer) control packets relayed from a second packet switch to the first packet switch via a tunnel. The layer-two control packets conform to a layer-two control protocol. Based at least in part on the retrieved information, the element managers and processes determine that the tunnel is configured to relay layer-two control packets conforming to the layer-two control protocol despite a desired tunnel configuration specifying that the tunnel should not be configured to relay layer-two control packets conforming to the layer-two control protocol. Element managers and processes may alternatively or additionally detect other discrepancies between the desired tunnel configuration and the tunnel.

  • Patent number: 7813321
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for selecting whether to authorize connection of a mobile station to communicate by way of a communication network. Radio frequency uncertainty, such as at coverage area boundaries, is managed to control better the selection. Signals broadcast by the communication system are monitored and signal performance metrics of the signals are identified. Average values of the performance metrics are identified, and rates of change of the performance metrics are calculated. When the average values are beyond a selected threshold and the rates of change are positive, authorization is granted to permit the connection of the mobile station to the communication network.
