  • Patent number: 7873712
Abstract: A system and method are described for aggregating management of devices connected to a server. In one embodiment, devices connected to a server may be identified by an operating system of the server. The devices may be in communication with one another through a network. The operating system may communicate a network identifier of each device to a service processor of the server. The service processor may aggregately manage the devices independent from the operating system. The service processor may receive management commands from an external source. Each of the management commands may be associated with one of the connected devices, but the connected devices may be incapable of communicating directly with the external source. The service processor may communicate each management command to the device associated with the management command using the network identifier of the associated device. The management command can then be performed on the associated device.

  • Patent number: 7870249
Abstract: A system for remotely monitoring an individual. The system includes a server system for generating a script program from a set of queries. The script program is executable by a remote apparatus that displays information and/or a set of queries to the individual through a user interface. Responses to the queries that are entered through the user interface together with individual identification information are sent from the remote apparatus to the server system across a communication network. The server system also includes an automated answering service for providing a series of questions from a stored set of questions for an individual at the remote apparatus to respond to, storing responses to each provided question in the series of questions and providing a service based on the individual's response to the questions.

  • Patent number: 7856490
Abstract: A system and method that modifies the behavior of the IEEE 802.1D STP standard to thereby decouple the one data domain from the one control domain involves managing multiple spanning tree protocol (STP) instances in a virtual local area network (VLAN). The method includes the step of assigning a unique set of ports within the VLAN to each of the multiple STP instances. Then, each of the multiple STP instances are managed to keep each of the multiple STP instances separate. Finally, when a topology change is detected in one of the multiple STP instances, entries that have been learned on the unique set of ports assigned to the STP protocol instance where the topology change is detected are fast-aged or transitioned from one state to another.

  • Patent number: 7849218
Abstract: A CEC controller of a wireless node device determines a destination logical address of a polling message received through a wired interface circuit based on an address list table in an address list memory when the polling message is received from a wired interface circuit, and transmits an ACK for the received polling message through the wired interface circuit in the case that the destination logical address of the polling message is a logical address of a node device connected over a wireless interval.

  • Patent number: 7844727
Abstract: A method and system for adaptively controlling level of a receiver buffer in a client in a multimedia streaming network. The multimedia streaming network has a server for providing streaming data to the client. The server is responsible for adapting the transmission rate to the reception rate or congestion control, and for adapting the sampling rate to the transmission rate. Thus, the server manages the shift and keeps it within the rate adaptation operating range. The client is responsible for compensating for the packet transfer delay variation, which is also known as network jitter. The client is also responsible for setting parameters of the server rate adaptation operating range. The client chooses and sends the shift parameters to the server, but it is up to the server to adapt its encoding rate or transmission rate when responding to the parameters.

  • Patent number: 7822827
Abstract: A system and method for writing and reading blocks of a data volume are disclosed. The method provides continuous data protection (CDP) for a data volume by backing up blocks of the data volume in real time to a local CDP log and transmitting the blocks over the Internet for storage in a remote CDP log on a server computer system in response to write requests that change the blocks of the data volume. In response to a read request for a particular block the method attempts to read the block from the data volume. If the block is not present in the data volume the method attempts to read the block from the local CDP log. If the block is not present in the local CDP log the method request the server computer system to read the block from the remote CDP log and return the block.

  • Patent number: 7818389
Abstract: In managing and buffering packet data for transmission out of a host, descriptor ring data is pushed in from a host memory into a descriptor ring cache and cached therein. The descriptor ring data is processed to read a data packet descriptor, and a direct memory access is initiated to the host to read the data packet corresponding to the read data packet descriptor to a data transmission buffer. The data packet is written by the direct memory access into the data transmission buffer and cached therein. A return pointer is written to the host memory by the direct memory access indicating that the data packet descriptor has been read and the corresponding data packet has been transmitted. In managing and buffering packet data for transmission to a host, descriptor ring data is pushed in from a host memory into a descriptor ring cache and cached therein. Data packets for transmission to the host memory are received and cached in a data reception buffer.

  • Patent number: 7818406
Abstract: A computer-implemented method of negotiating locale settings among a plurality of users communicating over a communication network can include determining a locale for each of a plurality of remotely located users, identifying at least one locale setting for each of the plurality of users according to the locale of each respective user, wherein the locale setting for each of the plurality of users forms at least one locale setting group, and determining whether each locale setting group is exclusive or non-exclusive. For each locale setting group that is exclusive, a locale setting from the locale setting group can be selected and, for each locale setting group that is non-exclusive, a locale setting union can be generated by taking a union of all locale settings of the locale setting group. The selected locale setting and/or the local setting union can be applied to a message exchanged between the users.

  • Patent number: 7814229
Abstract: Systems and methods for providing dynamic DNS host services in regard to resolving a text-descriptive resource names of a network request into network addresses is presented. A network request corresponding to a network resource on the computer network is obtained. The network request comprises a text-descriptive resource name corresponding to the network resource. Resource criteria are also obtained. The resource criteria direct how to resolve the resource name of the network resource to a network address. A network address corresponding to the resource name is then selected according to the obtained resource criteria. Thereafter, the selected network address is returned in response to the network request.

  • Patent number: 7814232
Abstract: Gateway and NAT services to a single host or large number of hosts on a local network using a redundancy group having gateway devices. A pool of unique IP addresses are partitioned into address blocks, one of which is assigned to a gateway device. Using the unique IP addresses in its assigned address block, the gateway device translates local IP addresses of hosts on a local network to unique IP addresses from the gateway device's assigned address block for host packets destined for outside networks and creates a mapping of the translation. The gateway device notifies other gateway devices in the redundancy group of the mapping. A master mapping database or a local mapping database is updated whenever one of the gateway devices performs a translation.
