Patent number: 6352497Abstract: This invention pertains to methods of checking for successful removal of trim material from trim areas disposed at periodic intervals along a web in a processing line. Marking material is marked, optionally as reference marks or reference images on the trim material pieces. Trim material is severed and removed to develop cut-outs at the trim areas. After removing the trim material, the method senses for the marking material at and adjacent the trim areas. The method thus detects marking material on trim material pieces which are not successfully removed from the web. In preferred embodiments, the web, outside the trim areas, is free from the specific marking material used for the reference marks or reference images. The marking material is preferably detectable, using a suitable sensor, independently of visible light emanating from, or reflected from, the marking material.Type: GrantFiled: October 5, 1999Date of Patent: March 5, 2002Assignee: Kimberly-Clark Worldwide, Inc.Inventors: Robert Leo Hensley, Tanakon Ungpiyakul

Patent number: 6349524Abstract: An embossed seal is formed in a cavity in the neck of a corked bottle over a cork using a die having a die surface with a die image. A first molten seal material is introduced into a die cavity. The die cavity is formed in part with the die surface. The introduction of the first molten seal material deposits an embossed seal portion with an embossed surface. The embossed seal portion is allowed to cool. A second molten seal material is introduced into the cavity of the neck of the corked bottle. The embossed seal portion is brought into contact with the molten seal material in the bottle cavity with the embossed surface disposed on top facing away from the molten seal material. The molten seal material partially melts the embossed seal portion to form a single seal upon cooling. The embossed seal portion is sufficiently cooled and solidified to prevent melting and damage of the embossed surface.Type: GrantFiled: January 11, 2000Date of Patent: February 26, 2002Assignee: Patented Innovations, LLCInventors: David Paul Zurlinden, David Marc Zurlinden, Malcolm Yuill-Thornton

Patent number: 6321513Abstract: The method relates to a method for packing articles and/or objects. Articles are packed in an elastic packing material (2) and the elastic packing material is stretched during the packing process. To achieve this, the packing material is arranged in a receptacle (1) in which a partial vacuum is produced. The packing material is stretched due to the pressure that the outside air exerts upon it. The item that is to be packed is then placed in or on the packing material. Once the vacuum has been removed, the packing material automatically reverts back to its original position by virtue of its own elasticity and is applied to the packing items. The invention also relates to a device to carry out such a method.Type: GrantFiled: April 15, 1999Date of Patent: November 27, 2001Assignee: Pi-Patente Gesellschaft mit beschränkter Haftung (GmbH) Entwicklung und VerwertungInventor: Hans-Werner Meixner

Patent number: 6309335Abstract: Disclosed is a supply hopper apparatus for 3-part (Bliss) box forming machines having a vertical or substantially vertical orientation that is capable of holding a large supply of end panels. The trays of the hopper are open at the top and bottom, and may be adjusted to accommodate a wide range of differently sized end panels. A shuttle mechanism is provided at the bottom of each tray for removing the lowermost end panel from the tray, and an adjustable gate is provided to prevent more than one panel from being removed from the tray at a time. An elevating mechanism is provided adjacent to each tray to bring the lowermost panel from a generally horizontal position to a vertical position alongside the mandrel of the container forming machine. The mandrel then picks up the elevated end panels from each side, and takes them into the machine where they are used to form the three-part Bliss container.Type: GrantFiled: November 10, 1999Date of Patent: October 30, 2001Assignee: Delaware Capital FormationInventor: David B.
