  • Patent number: 6149565
Abstract: A method of and an apparatus for producing stacks of bags where, instead of connecting the position of the foil web, a marking on the foil web is detected and used to correct the positions of the devices which operate on the web. These devices can include a cutter for removing a strip from the upper layer of the flattened blown tubular web, the punch for punching holes in the lower layer, and the device for infolding are among the devices controlled in response to the marking. The latter can be printed on the web as it is unrolled or formed during the extrusion or foil blowing process.

  • Patent number: 6139482
Abstract: A method of making flexible and collapsible bulk bags or liners for bulk bags or containers from individual flat panels of material, or tubes of material folded flat, is disclosed. The bags or liners have one or more sidewalls interconnected by at least a bottom wall and preferably also a top wall generally opposed to the bottom wall. The bags are preferably formed by disposing a pair of inner blanks of material with one on top of the other and then heat sealing along a straight line generally bisecting the blanks and thereafter severing the heat seal along its entire length. Next, a pair of outer blanks of material are disposed adjacent the inner blanks with the inner blanks received between the outer blanks. The outer blanks are each heat sealed about their side edges to an adjacent side edge of an inner blank. Once so formed, the inner blanks form a pair of gusseted panels received between the outer and overlying panels.

  • Patent number: 6138437
Abstract: Cigarette packs (10) are usually provided with an outer wrapper (13) made of thin, transparent or clear film. Furthermore, cigarette packs (10) are furnished with a (revenue) stamp (25). This is attached to the inner side of the outer wrapper (13) with glue or by other means. A tear-off strip (28) for the outer wrapper (13) is laid in place so that it severs the stamp (25) when torn off. This is connected to the pack by gluing its inner side to the facing side wall (16) of the pack.

  • Patent number: 6135936
Abstract: A bottom for a paper cup is formed by advancing a punch against a paperboard web to push the web against a cutting edge which cuts out a circular cup bottom blank from the web. The punch is kept in a forward state to clamp an outer peripheral portion of the blank immovably against a surface of a sleeve. A reciprocable draw is advanced against a center portion of the blank to push the center portion into a circular opening of the sleeve while maintaining the clamping force, to cause the center portion of the blank to become stretched. The clamping force is then progressively released to permit the outer peripheral portion to enter the opening and become bent to form a lip extending at a substantially right angle. The lip is compressed within a gap formed between the draw and a surface of the opening. Because of the stretching of the blank, pleats formed in the lip are only in the form of micropleats that are flattened in a non-folded over state.

  • Patent number: 6135938
Abstract: The machine (1) is provided for production of containers (8) having a trapezoid or triangular form in plane, starting from two films (4) of plastic material superposed on each other. The machine (1) comprises a work station (6) provided with a pair of heat sealing and cutting-out elements (18) extending in directions converging towards each other and transverse to the feed direction of the films (4) so as to simultaneously form two adjacent containers (8) disposed in an inverted relationship with each other in the plane of the films (4). The containers (8) are simultaneousLy removed from opposite sides of the work station (6) by respective removing means (7) provided with clamps (22) and are then released from the clamps (22) and fitted on pairs of underlying needles (36) thus forming stacks.

  • Patent number: 6119440
Abstract: A single level filler wheel for filling pouches with multiple products including a filler wheel having at least two sets of funnels defined within the wheel and spouts attached to the underside of the wheel, alternating spouts communicating with funnels of each set so that products dispensed on the wheel into two different feed paths are respectively received by the respective funnel sets and transferred directly into alternating spouts for filling at least two products, one into each alternate pouch. The total product drop is halved with respect to dual level filling devices and through-put speeds can be significantly increased. Multiple products in excess of two and varied feed drops can be provided by adding funnel sets, alternating spouts differently and the like. Methods and apparatus are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6095959
Abstract: In a method and unit for feeding, in a product wrapping machine, a continuous band of wrapping material, the surface of which is pre-impregnated with an aromatizing substance, the band is unwound from a reel of wrapping material and is fed, along a given path, to a cutting station where the band is cut into lengths, each defining a sheet of wrapping material for a relative product; along the path there is a device for cleaning the band, designed to remove the aromatizing substance from a given portion of the band.

  • Patent number: 6090027
Abstract: A method of marking a parcel (68) includes folding a label (33) about a chosen corner (123) of parcel (68) having contiguous sides (43) and converging edges (44) to permit an individual to rapidly locate the label. The label may be printed in ink and/or embossed directly on a parcel substrate (58) or as a lithographed and/or embossed sheet applied to the parcel substrate during its manufacture.

  • Patent number: 6085494
Abstract: Cardboard blanks with fold lines between their panels are partially draped around arrays of cigarette packets in an apparatus wherein successive arrays which are being advanced along an elongated path at a first speed strip discrete blanks off a mouthpiece which is advanced along such path at a lesser second speed. Additional panels of a blank which is being transported by the mouthpiece, and a first panel of which is to be engaged and entrained by the front side of an oncoming array, are pivoted relative to the first panel along the respective fold lines by pivotable prefolding members which share the movement of and are caused to pivot relative to the mothpiece while the latter transports a blank at the second speed. The prefolding members cooperate with further folding members to pivot further panels of a blank relative to the additional panels while the blank is being transported by the mouthpiece.
