Abstract: A method, system and apparatus for the monitoring, diagnosis and evaluation of the state of a dynamic system is disclosed. This method and system provides the processing means for receiving sensed and/or simulated data, converting such data into a displayable object format and displaying such objects in a manner such that the interrelationships between the respective variables can be correlated and identified by a user. This invention provides for the rapid cognitive grasp of the overall state of a critical function with respect to a dynamic system. The system provides for displayed objects which change in real-time to show the changes of the functions of the system. It is a highly flexible system which works with a wide variety of applications, including biological systems, environmental systems, engineering systems, economic systems, mechanical systems, chemical systems and the like.

Abstract: In menu operating method and device and an image processing apparatus using the same, a setting frame for operating a setting menu is constructed by a setting menu display area and a hierarchical menu display area. A setting menu to be operated is displayed in the setting menu display area, and menu item buttons corresponding to setting menus on respective layers contained in a hierarchical menu are displayed in a listing style according to its hierarchical structure in the hierarchical menu display area. At this time, an operator can obtain information such as the hierarchical structure of menus and the position of a setting menu being operated on each setting frame, and the operability of the hierarchical menu is enhanced.

Abstract: Overlay reports showing user interaction with web plug-in content are generated. Dimensions of elements within plug-in resources are determined by moving the elements to various locations with an output region and noting changes in overall dimensions of the output region. Once dimensions have been determined, overlay reports are generated including color-coded regions depicting relative levels of interaction.

Abstract: Automated facilities are provided for uploading media program information through a network connection to an automated encoding system. An encoding request is received from a client which requests that the media program information be encoded in one or more encoding formats to produce publication-ready-media information. Automated facilities also provide ancillary services associated with the publication-ready-media information such as organization control, design control and publication control of the publication-ready-media information.

Abstract: A graphical user interface displays management information associated with one or more selected managed entities along with a drill down menu. The drill down menu includes selectable drill down options corresponding to respective drill down functions. Based on selection of a drill down option by a user, a respective drill down function is applied to the management information associated with the one or more selected managed entities. For example, after identifying a selected drill down option chosen from the drill down menu, a processor function associated with the graphical user interface produces a successive drill down view by applying the respective drill down function associated with the selected drill down option to the management information associated with the management view. This technique of drilling down based on selection of one of multiple selectable drill down options enables a network manager to more quickly traverse network management information.

An embodiment of the present invention allows users to easily understand relationships between characters and changes in relationships between characters in a movie or drama by displaying significant events in connection to corresponding relationships and by displaying character relationships in a tree structure.

Abstract: The present invention provides a system and method for calculating, maintaining, and displaying information regarding the relative distance from nodes associated with telecommunication cable to high bandwidth telecommunication cables in metropolitan areas. The present invention allows a user to select the cable from at least one of the vendors who own telecommunication cable in the area and a specific node or series of nodes for calculation. The present invention provides a fast and convenient means by which to determine this relative distance and may be useful in the planning, budgeting, and vendor selection of connecting to customers.

Abstract: Methods and arrangements are provided that allow for a gradual visual correction between a user's input and a selected object within a graphical user interface (GUI) environment. For example, if an offset exists between a user's input and an object's preferred contact area, then, as the user manipulates the object (e.g., moves the object within the GUI environment) the magnitude of the offset is selectively and incrementally altered in a manner that is nearly imperceptible to the user. This corrective process is continued, until the user's input and the object's preferred contact area falls within a defined tolerance. Consequently, the correction process tends to be more pleasing and in some instances more realistic than an immediate correction or maintenance of a continued offset.

Abstract: A system and method for browsing properties of an electronic document. The present invention is comprised of a property browser program module. The property browser program module communicates with a shared code library for one or more application programs. The shared code library can be in communication with one or more application programs. When a user interacts with an electronic document associated with an application program, the user can manipulate one or more properties of the application program. The property browser program module determines a status for one or more properties for the electronic document through information received from the shared code library. Furthermore, the property browser program module determines a context for the electronic document through information received from the shared code library. Using the properties and context of the electronic document, the property browser program module creates a palette with one or more controls for the properties of the electronic document.

Abstract: A method, system, and program product for generating a window scroll-bar. In the preferred embodiment, a controller displays the window scroll-bar on a display screen. The window scroll-bar contains sections associated with respective windows on the display. The window scroll-bar also contains a slider, which moves within a section and between sections. As the slider moves within a particular section, the window associated with that section moves on the display toward the nearest boundary of the display. Thus, by moving the window scroll-bar slider, the user can move overlapping windows out of the way and find the window of interest.

This invention comprises a combination-storage means for storing a combination of one or a plurality of registration events that are associated with a procedure subject, and the procedure subject relating to clerical procedures, and a plurality of guidance means corresponding to a plurality of registration events and performing guidance for the user to result in input of data about said registration event. Also, based on the combination stored in the combination-storage means, a registration-event-extraction means extracts one or a plurality of registration events relating to a procedure subject selected by the user.

Abstract: A shell navigation tool for a personal computer having a multiple page shell user interface and a shell component. The shell user interface utilizes navigation between multiple layers of pages to organize and display links to local and remote documents, programs, web links, tasks, services, devices, and the like. At the top level of the multiple-page shell user interface, a start page provides access via hyperlinks to lower order pages, as well as links to system settings, and a limited number of local and remote documents, web links, and programs. Lower pages in the hierarchy, referred to as “Activity Centers” may be scoped to define activity types or groups (e.g., games, web, photography, personal finance). An Activity Center page provides links to local and remote programs documents, and web links, that are related to the defined activity.

Abstract: A system for controlling a cursor is provided. The system includes a monitored system that generates user interface data and mouse position data, such as would be provided in a monitor window. A remote monitoring system receives the user interface data and mouse control data, such as for controlling the location of a cursor in a local window and a monitor window. A mouse synchronization system receives the user interface data and the mouse control data and generates mouse calibration data based on the user interface data and the mouse control data, such as by determining the actual movement of the mouse using video data and determining a correction factor related to the estimated location of the mouse, based on mouse control data.

Abstract: A method and apparatus of simplified navigation. A web page is provided having a link to a sister site. The sister site facilitates simplified navigation. Pages from the sister site are served responsive to actuation of the sister site link. In one embodiment, the sister site includes matrix pages to permit matrix navigation.

Abstract: A method of preparing and displaying a cumulative presentation and a presentation system are provided. A listing of available individual presentation files is provided through a user interface. Each of the presentation files comprises a plurality of presentation slides. A user is queried through the user interface to select presentation files from the available individual presentation files for inclusion in a cumulative presentation in a selected presentation order. A listing of presentation files selected by the user is displayed in the user interface. In response to a first command received from the user, a first slide from a first presentation from the cumulative presentation is provided to a display device for display thereon. In response to a second command received from the user, a second slide from the cumulative presentation is provided to the display device for display thereon.
