Abstract: A current shunt monitor (CSM) circuit for monitoring the current through a sense resistor. An analog circuit provides an analog output signal proportional to the voltage across the sense resistor. A power supply includes a fixed voltage power supply at a first voltage supply level and a floating power supply. The floating power supply operates at a second voltage supply level referenced from the voltage level on a voltage input and a floating ground. The voltage input varies from a voltage level above the first voltage supply level to a voltage level below the first voltage supply level, and the floating power supply provides power to the analog circuit at least when the voltage level of the voltage input is above the first voltage supply level. A crossover circuit switches power from the floating power to the fixed voltage power supply at the first voltage supply level upon detecting the voltage level on the voltage input proximate in value to the first voltage supply level.

Abstract: Embodiments of the disclosure relate to systems and methods for determining a fault location in a three-phase series-compensated power transmission line system by using symmetrical components-based formulas that describe various voltage and current relationships. The voltage and current relationships can be derived using a synchronous measurement procedure that is concurrently executed at a sending end and a receiving end of the first series-compensated power transmission line system. Furthermore, determining the fault location in accordance with certain embodiments of the disclosure can eliminate one or more of a need to calculate an impedance value of any of the series capacitors or the series capacitor protection elements that are a part of the three-phase series-compensated power transmission line system, a need to monitor any of the series capacitor protection elements, and a need to measure a voltage drop across any of the series capacitors.

  • Patent number: 10145868
Abstract: A self-referenced on-die voltage droop detector generates a reference voltage from the supply voltage of an integrated circuit's power distribution network, and compares this reference voltage to the transient supply voltage in order to detect voltage droops. The detector responds to detected occurrences of voltage droop with low latency by virtue of being located on-die. Also, by generating the reference voltage from the integrated circuit's power domain rather than using a separate reference voltage source, the detector does not introduce noise and distortion associated with a separate power domain.

  • Patent number: 10119998
Abstract: Systems and methods for measuring alternating current (AC) voltage of an insulated conductor (e.g., insulated wire) are provided, without requiring a galvanic connection between the conductor and a test electrode or probe. A non-galvanic contact (or “non-contact”) voltage measurement system includes a variable capacitance subsystem which operates to generate a variable capacitive voltage between an insulated conductor under test and earth ground. During measurement, the non-contact voltage measurement system varies the capacitance of the variable capacitance subsystem to change the impedance of a capacitive divider circuit between the insulated conductor under test and earth ground. By sequentially making two (or three) measurements across the variable capacitance subsystem, the AC voltage of the insulated conductor can be determined without requiring any galvanic connection to the insulated conductor.

Abstract: Systems and methods detect abnormal conditions in electrical circuits by providing thermal imaging combined with non-contact measurements of current and voltage. Such systems may be implemented in a single test device, or in wired combinations, or in wireless communication implementations with multiple test devices and/or accessories, or in combination with one or more additional devices, such as a mobile phone, tablet, personal computer (PC), cloud-based server, etc. A thermal imaging tool that includes an infrared sensor may first discover and image one or more thermal anomalies in an object, such as an electrical circuit. One or more non-contact current or voltage sensors may be used to measure current and/or voltage, which allows for determination of the power loss at the measured location. The power loss may be used to determine an estimation of the abnormal resistive power losses in a circuit, as well as the costs associated therewith.
