  • Patent number: 6855189
Abstract: In a method for removing chromium oxide and nickel oxide, and combinations thereof, from liquid slags or slag mixtures, in which the liquid slag is A charged onto a metal bath, in particular an iron bath, and reduced by feeding carbon or carbon carriers, the carbon feed into the metal bath is effected until a decrease of the Cr and/or Ni oxide contents of the slag to a value of between 0.8 wt.-% and 0.2 wt.-%. As the pregiven Cr and/or Ni oxide content range of the slag is reached, reductants having higher reduction potentials such as, e.g., Al, Ca, Si, Fe—Si or Ca—Si are added in order to lower the Cr and/or Ni oxide contents to below 0.15 wt.-%, preferably below 0.08 wt.-%.

  • Publication number: 20020112565
Abstract: The device for atomizing and comminuting liquid melts, including a slag tundish to whose outlet an expansion or cooling chamber is connected, whereby a propellant gas lance opens into the outlet, which propellant gas lance is surrounded by a tubular underflow weir immersed in the liquid slag, is dimensioned such that the width of the gap between the lower edge of the underflow weir and the tundish bottom is smaller than 20%, preferably smaller than 15%, of the clear width of the outlet, that the bottom of the tundish in the region between the lower edge of the overflow weir and the outlet is designed in a funnel-shaped manner, and that supercritical vapor is injected through the propellant gas lance to form an underexpanded free jet in the interior of the melt jet, the flow speed at the nozzle mouth of the lance being adjusted to sonic speed, thus ensuring a substantially enhanced comminution performance.

  • Patent number: 6395054
Abstract: A process that produces pozzolanes, synthetic blast furnace slags, belite, or alite clinkers, as well as pig iron alloys, from oxidic liquid slag. • Patent number: 6332910
Abstract: In a process for working up steel slags and iron carriers such as, e.g., electric furnace slags, converter slags, fine ores, dusts from steel production, mill scales for obtaining pig iron and environmentally safe slags, the volume ratio of molten slag to iron bath is chosen to be larger than 0.5 to 1 and, preferably, 0.8:1 to 1.5:1 and the slags are supplemented with SiO2 carriers such as, e.g., foundry sands, metallurgical sands and/or fine ores so as to adjust a slag basicity (CaO/SiO2) of between 1.0 and 1.8 and, preferably, 1.2 and 1.8 at an Al2O3 content of between 10 and 25% by weight, based on the slag. In doing so, hot blast is top-blown and coal, optionally along with an inert gas and, in particular, nitrogen and, furthermore, optionally oxygen or hot air is blown through the iron bath.
