  • Patent number: 10159029
Abstract: A communication system facilitates a voice communication session for a wireless communication device. A Long Term Evolution (LTE) network exchanges Voice over LTE (VoLTE) communications with the wireless communication device for the voice communication session and determines LTE packet loss metrics for the voice communication session. The LTE network transfers the voice communication session to a Wireless Fidelity (WIFI) network. The WIFI network exchanges Voice over WIFI (VoWIFI) communications with the wireless communication device for the voice communication session and determines WIFI packet loss metrics for the voice communication session. A network controller compares the LTE packet loss metrics with the WIFI packet loss metrics to determine a packet loss configuration for the WIFI network. The network controller transfers a packet loss instruction to the WIFI network.

  • Patent number: 9872304
Abstract: A wireless access node to facilitate voice over long term evolution (VoLTE) communication sessions comprises a wireless communication transceiver and a processing system. The wireless communication transceiver is configured to exchange VoLTE packets with a wireless communication device during a VoLTE communication session, and receive a scheduling request and responsively issue a scheduling grant with a number of hybrid automatic repeat requests (HARQs). The processing system is configured to calculate a quality of service (QoS) score based on a communication quality of the VoLTE communication session after issuing the scheduling grant, and if the QoS score falls below a threshold value, apply a lower level of fragmentation to the VoLTE packets.

  • Patent number: 9860722
Abstract: An Internet Protocol (IP) router provides location information for an emergency communication session. The IP router receives a base station identifier associated with a request for the emergency communication session. The IP router selects a Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) based on the base station identifier. The IP router determines a PSAP type and a network type for the selected PSAP. The IP router transfers a location request for delivery to a location control system and receives location information transferred from the location control system. The IP router converts the location information into PSAP signaling used by the selected PSAP based on the PSAP and network type. The IP router transfers the converted location information for delivery to the selected PSAP.

  • Patent number: 9807664
Abstract: A wireless communication system to optimize device performance across wireless communication networks. A wireless communication device communicates over a first wireless communication network. The first wireless communication network determines first performance metrics. Communication is transferred to a second wireless communication network. The second wireless communication network determines second performance metrics. A control processing system compares the first performance metrics with the second performance metrics to determine configuration instructions for the second wireless communication network, and transfers the configuration instructions to the second wireless communication network. The second wireless communication network modifies a network configuration based on the configuration instructions and determines third performance metrics.

  • Patent number: 9565639
Abstract: A wireless communications device and method for establishing a voltage threshold at which to turn off electronics of a wireless communications device includes determining a power threshold level at which a device is to be shut off when a battery of the device reaches or drops below the power threshold level. The determined power threshold level may be offset. The amount of power remaining for the battery in the communications device may be measured. The communication device may be shut off based on the offset power threshold level so as to preserve enough power for an emergency message to be generated and sent in the case of an emergency.

  • Patent number: 9444921
Abstract: A real loop and method for using the loop for testing sidetone signal level are provided. The loop is modeled from a coil of cable to represent a straight wire loop. Several conducting wires in a cable may be used. The cable may be configured in a coil and may have a first end and a second end exposed for electrical connections to an even number of wires. Each wire in the even number of wires may be capable of being identified as the same wire on each of the first and second ends of the cable. One or more pairs of wires in the even number of wires may be electrically connected to form an electrical loop. An electrical current passes in opposite directions in the wires in each pair of wires.

  • Patent number: 9374756
Abstract: Examples disclosed herein provide systems, methods, and software for rolling over a data communication from one communication network to another. In one example, a wireless communication device may initiate a Voice over Long Term Evolution communication using Long Term Evolution or LTE. However, during the communication, the device may be required to transition to a different communication format such as CDMA2000. In response to this transition, an IP multimedia subsystem is configured to gather information about the subscriber equipment and provide this information to a media gateway controller to transition the communication.

  • Patent number: 9307081
Abstract: A system and method for communicating a pre-stored emergency message from a TTY to a PSAP may include, in response to receiving an emergency call signal, accessing a pre-stored emergency message stored in a memory. A PSAP may be dialed. In one embodiment, the PSAP may be dialed by the user dialing 911 or the TTY may automatically dial 911 in response to the user selecting a hard or soft-button associated with communicating an emergency message to a PSAP. The pre-stored emergency message may be communicated to a PSAP using a TTY communications protocol. A TTY compatible device utilized by a PSAP operator may be configured to provide the PSAP operator with pre-stored messages available for selection and communication to the emergency caller. By providing pre-stored messages on TTY devices, emergency communications between users of the TTY devices may be expedited, thereby potentially saving lives.

  • Patent number: 9241316
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for conserving resources of a wireless communication device (WCD). A WCD may be configured to operate in one of two modes while in communication with the RAN. In a high-power mode, the WCD operates with a filtering component having a first filtering bandwidth. The first a filtering bandwidth generally enables the WCD to provide high quality audio signals based on a first audio bandwidth of an audio codec. In a low-power mode, the WCD operates with the filtering component having a second filtering bandwidth. The second filtering bandwidth enables the WCD to provide a lower quality audio signal based on a second audio bandwidth having a narrower audio bandwidth than the first audio bandwidth.

  • Patent number: 9215653
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for conserving battery charge of a wireless communication device (WCD). A radio access network (RAN) and a WCD communicate with data encoded based on one of two codecs. By default, the RAN and the WCD communicate based on a first codec of the two codecs. Communication based on the first codec provides a high-quality audio signal between the RAN and WCD but uses more battery charge. When the battery charge decreases, the WCD can communicate a low-battery indicator to the RAN. Upon receiving the low-battery indicator, the RAN enables a transcoder configured to convert the data encoded based on the first codec into data encoded based on the second codec. After transcoding, RAN and the WCD communicate with based on the second codec. Communication based on the second codec provides a lower-quality audio signal between the RAN and WCD but uses less battery charge.

  • Patent number: 9173183
Abstract: A mobile device may obtain time difference of arrival (TDOA) measurements from wireless signals transmitted by a plurality of nodes. The plurality of nodes may include synchronized nodes that are synchronized to a time reference and an unsynchronized node that has a time synchronization error relative to the time reference. An estimated location of the mobile device can be determined based on the TDOA measurements. Another estimated location of the mobile device can be determined based on other data, such as the mobile device scanning an object having a known location. The time synchronization error can then be determined based on a distance between these estimated locations. Once the time synchronization error has been determined, it can be used to correct subsequent TDOA measurements involving the unsynchronized node.

  • Patent number: 9148784
Abstract: Examples disclosed herein provide systems, methods, and software for rolling over a data communication from one communication network to another. In one example, a method of operating a communication network includes receiving a secure authorization request from a wireless device and authorizing the wireless device based on a security key. The method further includes determining an identifier for a previous communication network, identifying a previous security key from the previous communication network, and integrating the previous security key with the security key to facilitate communication for the wireless device.
