At least one cooling channel is at least partially defined by the supplemental component and the interior surface that the supplemental component is bonded to, wherein the at least one cooling channel fluidly connects at least one of the one or more exterior cooling holes to one or more interior cooling outlets that discharge the compressor discharge air captured from the at least one of the one or more exterior cooling holes.

The method further includes aligning the plurality of modified cooling holes of the recess-shaped modification with the plurality of cooling hole outlets of the component, inserting at least one alignment pin into at least one of aligned pair of holes and hole outlets, bonding the recess-shaped modification disposed in the recess to the component, and removing the at least one alignment pin after bonding, wherein the plurality of modified cooling holes of the recess-shaped modification is fluidly connected with the plurality of cooling holes of the component.

    Abstract: A brazing tape or preform includes a layer of a brazing material, and a plurality of ceramic members affixed to the layer. The plurality of ceramic members are configured to be removable by a ceramic solvent. The plurality of ceramic members are comprised of a plurality of water-soluble ceramic members. The ceramic solvent used to remove the ceramic members is water. The brazing material is selected from the group comprising, nickel, nickel alloys, cobalt, cobalt alloys, iron, iron alloys, and combinations thereof. The ceramic members comprise, about 60% to about 70% by weight of alumina (Al2O3), about 15% to about 25% by weight of zircon (ZrSiO4) flour, about 5% to about 15% by weight of sodium hydrogen phosphate (Na2HPO4), and about 5% by weight of sugar. The brazing tape may be configured as a flexible tape, and the brazing preform may be configured as a pre-sintered preform.

    Abstract: An article treatment method includes positioning an article having a base material. A weld filler material is applied to the base material by welding to form a treated article. The weld filler material includes at least one temperature depressant element at a concentration sufficient to form potential eutectic-containing zones in the welded article. The potential eutectic-containing zones contain the at least one temperature depressant element. The welded article is heated to a temperature sufficiently high and for a time sufficiently long to form at least partially liquefied eutectic-containing zones. The at least partially liquefied eutectic zones are capable of flow into cracks formed during the welding.

    Abstract: A method of forming micro channels in a thermal barrier coating includes placing a brazing tape on a substrate. The brazing tape has a first side and a second side with a plurality of ceramic members attached thereto. The first side is placed in contact with the substrate. A brazing step brazes the brazing tape to the substrate. An applying step applies a bond coat to the second side of the brazing tape. Another applying step applies a thermal barrier coating (TBC) onto the bond coat. A removing step removes the plurality of ceramic members by exposing the plurality of ceramic members to a ceramic solvent. A plurality of micro channels are formed in the thermal barrier coating by voids left from the plurality of ceramic members.

    Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure provide turbine buckets, turbomachinery, and related methods for identifying bucket deformation. A turbine bucket according to embodiments of the present disclosure can include an airfoil extending radially from a base, relative to a rotor axis of a turbomachine; and a magnetized material coupled to the airfoil proximal to a radially outer end thereof. To identify bucket deformation, a magnetic sensor can measure a magnetic field strength of the magnetized material, and a computing device in communication with the magnetic sensor can identify the turbine bucket as being one of deformed and non-deformed based on the magnetic field strength of the magnetized material.
