  • Publication number: 20160175072
Abstract: An orthodontic bracket for coupling an archwire with a tooth includes a bracket body and a rotatable member. The rotatable member is rotatable between an opened position and a closed position. A retention member secures the rotatable member to the body and a locking mechanism that provides at least one positive stop in the rotation of the rotatable member and that produces a discernible indication when the rotatable member is in at least the closed position. In one closed position, the rotatable member actively ligates the archwire and in the other closed position, the rotatable member passively ligates the archwire. The locking mechanism is separate from the retention member and includes at least one pin that slidably contacts the rotatable member. The pin has a longitudinal axis and the retention member has a longitudinal axis. The axis of the pin is oriented perpendicular to the axis of the retention member.

  • Patent number: 9345553
Abstract: A set of rules to design an orthodontic appliance for generating an aesthetic smile is maintained in a computational device, where the set of rules is associated with an application that executes in the computational device. At least one measured value is computed from one or more features extracted by processing dental information of a patient. The application generates a parameter to design an orthodontic appliance based on the at least one measured value and the set of rules for generating the aesthetic smile.

  • Publication number: 20160042509
Abstract: Systems and methods are described for identifying a sub-gingival surface of a tooth in volumetric imagery data. Shape data is received from a surface scanner and volumetric imagery data is received from a volumetric imaging device. The shape data of the super-gingival portion of a first tooth is registered with the volumetric imagery data of the super-gingival portion of the first tooth to obtain a registration result. At least one criterion is then determined for detecting a surface of the first tooth in the volumetric imagery data of the super-gingival or the sub-gingival portion using the registration result. The surface of the sub-gingival portion of the first tooth is detected in the volumetric imagery data using the at least one criterion.

  • Patent number: 9135498
Abstract: Shape data of a patient's crown and volumetric imagery of the patient's tooth are received. A determination is made of elements that represent one or more crowns in the shape data. • Patent number: 8992215
Abstract: An orthodontic appliance is automatically designed and manufactured from digital lower jaw and tooth shape data of a patient. A computer calculates the post-treatment positions of the teeth and produces three-dimensional images of the teeth, individually and in their calculated positions. The appliance is automatically designed according to the final design, which also can be interactively modified and approved by the orthodontist, with the computer recalculating the effects on the treatment as a result of the doctor's changes. Brackets are fabricated as an integrated set, either by cutting slots therein or by building the brackets in layers by, for example, stereo lithography. Three-dimensional custom jigs are automatically made to exactly position the brackets on a patient's teeth.

Abstract: Provided is a head mounted display system that communicates with an intra-oral imaging system. Data received from the intra-oral imaging system is displayed in at least one head mounted display unit of the head mounted display system. Provided also is an intra-oral imaging system that in communication with a head mounted display system. The intra-oral imaging system sends data corresponding to an image of at least one tooth acquired by an intra-oral imaging sensor, to be displayed on the head mounted display system.
