Patent number: 7433352Abstract: Data packets transmitted over a cable network are suppressed by hardware at the transmitting end and expanded on the receiving end. This conserves bandwidth as well as reduces the processing resource requirements in both the CM and the CMTS. An extended header element is added to a data packet that is to be transmitted over the cable network. The extended header element contains an index that is used along with the SID to access a rule. The rule is used to determine which bytes are to be suppressed at the transmitter and expanded at the receiver.Type: GrantFiled: July 28, 2004Date of Patent: October 7, 2008Assignee: Broadcom CorporationInventors: John D. Horton, Jr., Robert J. Lee, David M. Pullen

Patent number: 7422789Abstract: A cathodic protection polymeric compound is disclosed. The compound has flowable material to serve as a binder, carbonaceous conductive media dispersed in the flowable material, sacrificial metal particles also dispersed in the flowable material. The carbonaceous conductive media serve as a carbon-based electron transfer agent and are in the form of particles, platelets, fibers, tubes, or combinations thereof. A galvanic circuit is formed by the metal particles serving as anodes, a metal substrate to be protected serving as the cathode, and the conductive media serving as the electron transfer agent. The flowable material can also include an ionically conductive or an inherently conductive polymer to further enhance the galvanic circuit.Type: GrantFiled: October 22, 2004Date of Patent: September 9, 2008Assignee: Polyone CorporationInventors: Roger W. Avakian, Stephen D. Horton, John H. Hornickel

Patent number: 7349437Abstract: A system and method for hardware based reassembly of a fragmented packet is shown. The method includes receiving a bandwidth request to transfer a data packet from the data provider. Then, bandwidth is allocated to the data provider, where the allocated bandwidth is less than the requested bandwidth. Next, the present invention receives part of the data packet in the allocated bandwidth from the data provider, where the part of the data packet includes a fragment header, and the fragment header includes a sequence number for the part of the data packet. The part of the data packet is then stored in external memory. Finally, the data packet is reassembled by concatenating in the correct sequence the part of the data packet with other parts of the data packets to create the reassembled data packet.Type: GrantFiled: April 12, 2005Date of Patent: March 25, 2008Assignee: Broadcom CorporationInventors: John D. Horton, Niki R. Pantelias

Patent number: 7328487Abstract: A bundling system with improved locking tie head comprising a smooth planar strap and a locking head with two flexible independent L-shaped pawls. One end of the pawl is anchored in the locking head. The locking head has two transverse pawl cavities allowing flexural movement of the pawl during insertion of the planar strap and locking engagement to prevent withdrawal of the strap.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 2005Date of Patent: February 12, 2008Assignee: Dymetrol Company, Inc.Inventors: Richard A. Hoffman, Murray J. Bordeaux, William R. Sessoms, Rodney L. Thompson, Stephen D. Horton

Patent number: 7251837Abstract: A method and apparatus for utilizing heat-generating articles to provide active heating of a user's hand, wherein a heated article is placed near the inside of a user's wrist to cause the user's body temperature to be maintained or actively changed. A holder apparatus for use with a conventional heat pack may include a glove body including a wrist sleeve having an externally accessible pocket for receiving the heat pack. The finger end of the glove body may be truncated to allow the holder apparatus to be worn inside of, and in conjunction with a conventional glove or mitten. The holder apparatus may also include a securing band which serves to engird the inside of the wrist to thereby hold the article closely against the wrist and thereby assure heat transfer between the temperature-altering article and the inside of the wrist.Type: GrantFiled: April 11, 2005Date of Patent: August 7, 2007Inventor: Charles D. Horton

Patent number: 7190704Abstract: A method for communicating information is disclosed wherein a time slot is allocated in a time division multiple access system for a transmission from a subscriber to a headend. Synchronization of a clock of the subscriber with respect to a clock of the headend is enhanced using a message transmitted from the headend to the subscriber which is indicative of an error in a subscriber transmission time with respect to the time slot. A feedback loop process is used to determine at least one of fractional symbol timing correction and carrier phase correction of a transmission from the subscriber to the headend. Filter coefficients are generated at the headend from a ranging signal transmitted from the subscriber to the headend and transmitting the filter coefficients from the headend to the subscriber, the filter coefficients being used by the subscriber to compensate for noise in a transmission from the subscriber to the headend.Type: GrantFiled: February 17, 2004Date of Patent: March 13, 2007Assignee: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Theodore F. Rabenko, James C. H. Thi, John D. Horton, Jr., Thomas J. Quigley, Lisa V. Denney, Jonathan S. Min, Christopher R. Jones, Henry Samueli, Fang Lu, Feng Chen, Sean F. Nazareth

Publication number: 20060259524Abstract: A document management system includes means for receiving a document through a network and converting the document to a format that is compatible with an online electronic filing system. In one embodiment, the format is compliant with the Security Exchange Commission's EDGAR database system. The system can split the document into a plurality of sub-documents that can be assigned to different editors. Thus, the editors can work in parallel with one another to prepare the document for filing. After the editors have made revisions, if any, to their respective sub-documents, the system merges the sub-documents into a single EDGAR-compliant document for submission to the EDGAR system.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 14, 2006Publication date: November 16, 2006Inventor: D. Patent number: 6996128Abstract: A method and system of processing sampled voice packets from a voice packet sender for transmission over a bit-rate sampled data transmission system, such as by a cable modem over a cable modem termination system, to a voice packet recipient. Unsolicited grant arrivals in response to a request from the voice packet sender coupled to the cable modem are determined. The storing of sampled voice packets is synchronized with the unsolicited grant arrivals. Upon receipt of an unsolicited grant arrival, currently stored sampled voice packets are transmitted to the cable modem for further transmission to the voice packet recipient over the cable modem termination system.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 2004Date of Patent: February 7, 2006Assignee: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Theodore F. Rabenko, James C. H. Thi, John D. Horton, Jr.

Patent number: 6766259Abstract: A system and a method are provided for detecting fiber damage in a dialyzer. The system may have a device which may transmit a gas into an interior of a fiber within a dialyzer. The temperature of the gas may be different than a temperature of the dialyzer. A thermal imaging camera may detect a temperature difference at a surface of the fiber where the gas may be escaping. The thermal imaging camera may be connected to a monitor which enables a user to view a location of the difference in temperature. As a result, the user may locate the damaged area of the fiber. The user may then repair the damaged area.Type: GrantFiled: July 29, 2002Date of Patent: July 20, 2004Assignee: Baxter International Inc.Inventors: William Brandon Padgett, Ralph Steven Kesler, Michael E.
