  • Patent number: 7984749
Abstract: The invention relates to a continuous casting mold, in particular a thin slab mold in which the flow of a liquid metal in the mold is influenced by a magnetic field generated by permanent magnets, wherein the permanent magnets have, over the width and/or height thereof, different magnetic strengths or are spaced from each other by different distances for a different field strength, so that to provide for variation of the magnetic field strength, the permanent magnets are differently adjusted in groups for changing a field strength distribution.

  • Publication number: 20110000636
Abstract: The invention is directed to a device for casting strands of metal, in particular steel, with a material supply vessel, the liquid metal being delivered to the carrying side of a circulating conveyor belt by means of the pouring nozzle of the material supply vessel. The conveyor belt comprises a thin, heat-resistant belt which circulates between a first deflection roller and a second deflection roller and which is shaped after the first deflection roller and in the region of the outlet nozzle to form a trough for receiving the liquid metal and resumes the shape of a flat belt in proximity to the second deflection roller. In order to reduce stresses on the belt, it is proposed that at least one of the deflection rollers is cambered in a convex manner.

  • Patent number: 7798202
Abstract: A broadside (100) for the broadside of a funnel mold for the casting of metal. Known broadsides of this kind have at least one groove-shaped cooling channel (110) in the backside (R) of the broadside. Adjacent the cooling channel (110) on the backside of the broadside, recesses (A1, . . . , A5) are provided as well as filler elements (140-1, . . . , -5) for the at least partial sealing of the recesses. In order to constructively simplify the broadside in view of the adjustment of a generally constant flow rate of a cooling medium through the cooling channel, it is proposed to design the recesses (A1, . . . , A5) in such a way, that they cross the cooling channel (110) diagonally to its longitudinal direction. Moreover, the recesses (A1, . . .

  • Publication number: 20100065718
Abstract: The invention relates to a die (1) with a funnel-shaped pouring region (7) for casting molten metal, comprising a die wall (2, 3, 4, 5) with a hot side, which is in contact with the molten metal, and a coating (12) on the hot side. The thickness of the coating (12) is smaller in a transition region (10) from the funnel-shaped pouring region (7) to the lateral parallel regions (11) than in the pouring region (7) and in the parallel region (11). • Publication number: 20100000704
Abstract: An extrusion die (1) for the casting of liquid metals, in particular of liquid steel materials, has a heat flow density which is distributed non-homogenously over the die face. A homogenizing of the heat flow density can be obtained if the spacing between the hot side and the cooling duct base (=thickness (6) of the die wide side plate (2)) in the new state as a typical normal thickness (100%) is reduced by at least 20% to 80%, and a further reduction, obtained by means of reworking processes, of the thickness (6) which is initially reduced to 80% is restricted to 5 mm a final thickness (6a) by means of a final reworking process.

  • Publication number: 20090199993
Abstract: The invention relates to a cooled continuous casting mold (1) for casting metal, especially steel, which has a casting format (GF) that is defined by respective two opposite broad faces (2, 3) and small faces (4, 5). The broad faces (2, 3) have a cooling area (6) which designed for the maximum casting width and comprises a plurality of cooling channels (7) extending in the direction of casting and being connected to a coolant circuit. The small faces (4, 5) can be adjusted to a predetermined casting format having a corresponding casting width. The aim of the invention is to provide a continuous casting mold for slab formats, especially thin slabs, which allows to adjust an even working end temperature of the broad sides and especially to reduce a considerable temperature drop in the neighborhood of the small faces while at the same time allowing to adjust different casting formats, especially smaller casting formats as compared to the maximum casting format.

  • Patent number: 7478664
Abstract: A method for semi-endless or endless rolling by casting a metal strand, especially a steel strand, which is cut to length as required after solidification, wherein the cut lengths of cast strand are fed into a roller hearth furnace for heating and homogenizing at rolling temperature and are then fed at rolling temperature into a rolling mill to be rolled out. The continuous casting is continued without interruption during the rolling operation, and a sufficient buffer time for a roll change is maintained in the rolling mill. For carrying out a roll change, the casting rate is reduced as a function of the feed rate of the rolling mill and/or the roll-changing time, and/or the buffer length of the roller hearth furnace, and/or the final rolled thickness after the strand has been cut to length.

  • Patent number: 7337827
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of operating a strip casting machine for producing a metal strip, during which molten metal is continuously poured between two casting rolls (1, 2) that form a casting gap. Lateral seals (10) having sealing plates (11) are provided for laterally delimiting the casting gap, whereby the sealing plates (11) are placed or pressed with a preset placement or pressing force, whose magnitude can be set, against the end surfaces of the casting rolls (1, 2). The sealing plates (11) are, in repeatable stop-and-go steps, placed with a preset force and time against the end surfaces of the casting rolls (1, 2) and are held in the placing position for a preset time. This enables a distinct reduction in the wear of the sealing plates and of the casting roll end surfaces.

  • Patent number: 7152661
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and casting roller plant for the semi-endless or endless rolling by casting of a metal, in particular a steel strip (1a), which may be transversely separated as required after solidification. The casting strip part lengths (20) are fed to a roller furnace (2) for heating and equilibration at the rolling temperature and the partial lengths (20) for rolling out are fed to a rolling train (3) for rolling, whereby the strip casting is continued uninterrupted during the rolling operation. According to the invention, a closer matching of the strip casting and the rolling can be carried out, whereby the casting speed (Vc) is reduced for a roller change such that between the end of rolling a preceding multiple length (21) and the insertion of a new partial length (20) or multiple lengths (21) into the rolling gear a sufficient buffer time for a roller exchange is provided.
