  • Publication number: 20060102317
Abstract: The invention relates to an electromagnetic braking device for molten steel that flows into a continuous casting mould (1). Said device comprises at least one solenoid (2) with a ferromagnetic core (5) that is allocated to the broad sides (3, 4) of the mould. To reduce the oscillating mass and at the same time increase the strength of the magnetic field, the core (5) consists of a primary part (6) that houses the solenoid (2) and can be displaced at a distance from the broad side walls (3, 4) and attachments (8, 8?) that are fixed in water tanks (7, 7?) of the mould (1). When combined in their operating position, the core parts (6, 8) produce U-shaped yokes (9, 9?) for generating a closed magnetic flux (10) and when moved apart, cause the magnetic flux (10) to be interrupted.

  • Publication number: 20050251989
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and casting roller plant for the semi-endless or endless rolling by casting of a metal, in particular a steel strip (1a), which may be transversely separated as required after solidification. The casting strip part lengths (20) are fed to a roller furnace (2) for heating and equilibration at the rolling temperature and the partial lengths (20) for rolling out are fed to a rolling train (3) for rolling, whereby the strip casting is continued uninterrupted during the rolling operation. According to the invention, a closer matching of the strip casting and the rolling can be carried out, whereby the casting speed (Vc) is reduced for a roller change such that between the end of rolling a preceding multiple length (21) and the insertion of a new partial length (20) or multiple lengths (21) into the rolling gear a sufficient buffer time for a roller exchange is provided.

  • Patent number: 6913065
Abstract: A device for continuously casting metals, especially steel, consists of multipleconsecutive segments (1) which each form the strand guide for casting strands of different widths (4), with roller pairs (2). The rollers are rotationally mounted on segment frames (5; 6), these segment frames (5; 6) each being braced with strand guide frames (10) on both sides. The aim of the invention is to reduce profile increases in the cross-section of the casting strand (4d) in the residual solidification area (4b), by providing a power mechanism (13) at least on the fixed side of the segment frame (5) of a segment (1), between the segment frame (5) and a transversal member (11) connecting the strand guide frames (10) on the two sides. Said power mechanism is situated approximately on the middle strand axis. The power transmission element (13a) of the power mechanism acts upon the segment frame (5), while its base (13b) is supported on the transversal member (11).

  • Patent number: 6776217
Abstract: In a method for continuous casting bars, billets, and slabs from a melt in dimensional ranges of approximately 20 to 150 mm thickness and approximately 600 to 3500 mm width by means of an oscillating, water-cooled casting mold in cooperation with a submerged-entry nozzle and by employing casting powder for formation of casting slag, local temperatures and local heat flux densities of a casting mold wall in a meniscus area of the melt critical for the surface quality of a slab are measured. The working temperature of the casting mold wall in the meniscus area is maintained by adjusting the operating parameters important for the working temperature within a predetermined temperature range (&Dgr;T).

  • Publication number: 20040129405
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for continuously casting ingots, slabs or thin slabs in a continuous casting plant. Said plant comprises strand guide segments (2.1 to 2.n) whose distances from one another can be adjusted underneath an ingot mold (1) and which have roll pairs (4, 4′) that can be subjected to the action of path-controlled or position-controlled hydraulic cylinders. The thickness of the cast strand (5) is reduced by conically adjusting its strand guide segments in a soft reduction line extending up to the crater top. The aim of the invention is to improve the adaptation of the continuous casting plant to different operating parameters. To this end, at least one roll pair (4, 4′) subjects the cast strand (5) to a size reduction in the area of its liquid core (7) between the ingot mold (1) and the soft reduction line (SR line). The invention also relates to a correspondingly designed continuous casting plant.

  • Patent number: 6698497
Abstract: The invention relates to strip casting machines comprised of two parallel casting rollers (1, 2) whose bearing journals (8, 9) are supported on a stand (3). Cooled roll barrels of the casting rollers (1, 2) and narrow lateral parts (5) delimit a casting gap (6). The aim of the invention is to obtain an optimal ratio between the width of the casting machine and the maximally castable strip width, to provide for a simple stand construction both for changing rollers as well as for exchanging narrow lateral parts, and to attain an improved protection against oxidation. To these ends, the invention provides that the cooled roll barrels are constructed as cylindrical casings (4). The casing (4) should be supported on a stationary axle, which is fixed on the stand (3), via the concentric support rings which project inside the casing (4) on both sides and which are connected to the same.

  • Publication number: 20040025312
Abstract: The invention relates to a casting roll for casting and/or supporting a cast strand, in particular for a two-roll casting machine Said casting roll comprises a water cooling system, in which the cooling water is supplied and discharged in cooling channels (8), formed by cooling bores or grooves that are distributed over the periphery of the roll and a pressure chamber (10), which borders a roll casing (5) and is connected in an adjustable manner to a hydraulic fluid source. The casting roll prevents a superelevation of the profile and the formation of a wedge-shape over a significant section of the length of the casting roll, as the internal diameter of the roll casing (5) increases, starting from sealing elements (15) up to the centre of the roll and the hollow chamber (16) can be impinged by the hydraulic fluid in order to modify the profile.

  • Patent number: 6533024
Abstract: In a method for changing a billet section of a continuous billet casting device from an initial section to a final section, the opposed billet sides interact with oppositely positioned roll supports of a billet guide arranged below a continuous casting die. The roll supports have segments with rolls, and each segment is individually adjustable with respect to its angular position relative to the billet. A controlled sequence of adjusting steps of the segments successively arranged in a direction of continuous casting is carried out, wherein, for reducing the section of the billet, the segments are advanced successively toward the billet in the continuous casting direction and, and for increasing the section of the billet, the segments are moved successively away from the billet in the continuous casting direction.
