  • Publication number: 20010042608
Abstract: A liquid-cooled plate mold for continuous casting of metals has highly heat-conductive mold plates of copper or a copper alloy. The mold plates have a water side. A fastening support for each mold plate is provided for securing the mold plate thereon. The fastening support is in the form of a water box or a support plate. Fastening elements for securing the mold plates to the fastening supports are provided. Shaped parts having a thread are arranged on the water side of the mold plates. The shaped parts form fastening pieces that are non-positively connected by soldering connections or welding connections to the mold plates, wherein the fastening elements engage the fastening pieces.

  • Publication number: 20010020527
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for preventing undesirable intensive cooling particularly of the strip edge areas of a cast strand resulting from running water emerging from the bottom opening of a secondary cooling chamber, wherein high-energy spray jets of a deflection medium are produced and directed against the emerging running water transversely of the strip edge areas of the cast strand, such that the running water is deflected from the strip edge areas and is discharged through outlet openings of the secondary cooling chamber arranged on both sides of the cast strand.

  • Publication number: 20010017197
Abstract: In a method for changing a billet section of a continuous billet casting device from an initial section to a final section, the opposed billet sides interact with oppositely positioned roll supports of a billet guide arranged below a continuous casting die. The roll supports have segments with rolls, and each segment is individually adjustable with respect to its angular position relative to the billet. In an initial position of the roll supports, the segments are adjusted to a uniform production format of the billet. A controlled sequence of adjusting steps of the segments successively arranged in a direction of continuous casting is carried out, wherein, for reducing the section of the billet, the segments are advanced successively toward the billet in the continuous casting direction and, and for increasing the section of the billet, the segments are moved successively away from the billet in the continuous casting direction.

  • Patent number: 5709261
Abstract: A billet guiding unit of a continuous casting plant for thin slabs includes guide rolls supported on oppositely located frames, wherein the frames are tensioned relative to each other against stop surfaces by means of tension rods. Hydraulic cylinders for extending or stretching the tension rods are mounted between corresponding stop surfaces of the frames. The distance between oppositely located rows of rolls of the frames are corrected by determining a lower deviation side of the slab by carrying out a continuous measurement of the thickness of the slab sides, by determining from the difference of the dimensions the required extension of the tension rods on the lower deviation side and by applying to the hydraulic cylinders the pressure required for the extension of the tension rods.

  • Patent number: 5348074
Abstract: In a process and apparatus for the continuous casting of slabs and blooms which uses a soft-reduction line including a pair of movable rollers arranged in a plane perpendicular to slab movement and a mechanism for driving the rollers towards each other and an adjustable spindle for holding the rollers apart by a desired gap, the load on the spindle is reduced during the spindle adjustment process. This reduction in load may be temporary in which case, after the adjustment is complete and the new gap has been established, the spindle load is retuned to its pre-adjustment value. Alternatively, the spindle can operate in a reduced load condition permanently in which case the desired gap can be set continuously using the reduced-load spindle with only a small spindle adjustment force being necessary.

  • Patent number: 5339887
Abstract: A continuously cast steel strip which consists of a solidified casting shell and a liquid core is reduced in thickness in a roll deformation and is then rolled. In order to avoid undesired fluctuations in thickness, to improve the structure and to simplify the roll deformation unit, a steel strip billet of 40-80 mm thickness is cast, roll deformed to 15-40 mm thickness having a 2-15 mm residual liquid core in a maximum of three steps. The roll deformed billet is then guided to complete solidification.

  • Patent number: 4969506
Abstract: A method for the sequential casting of steel strip in steel strip casting equipment wherein under normal operating conditions a steel melt is fed through a pouring tube having discharge ports into the pouring area of a cooled ingot mold at a location below the surface of the melt in the mold and is thereafter removed from the mold in the form of steel strip by the combined operation of mold oscillation means and strip discharge means. After the feed of melt is interrupted, anchoring rods are partially longitudinally immersed into the melt laterally of the pouring area of the mold, and the surface of the melt in the mold is lowered to a level below the pouring area. After a desired interval, the melt feed is continued, and the level of the surface of the melt in the mold is allowed to rise above the discharge ports of the pouring tube. Thereafter, casting flux is applied to the surface of the melt, and the operation of the mold oscillation means and the strip discharge means is resumed.
