  • Patent number: 7089133
Abstract: A method and circuit provide a system level reset function for an electronic device. An initial reset function is provided under a low voltage condition of supply voltage, such as occur upon first energizing the electronic device. A tunable reset function is also provided, which can first be asserted at a voltage level setting less precise than that setting becomes upon tuning. Further, a boot-up reset function is provided, which provides its reset function at a voltage level setting that is set according to a calibration. Calibration can be based on data stored in a non-volatile memory, and can involve a checksum operation. The electronic device, a microcontroller for instance, is held in a reset state with any of the initial, tunable, and boot-up reset functions.

  • Patent number: 6950954
Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention includes a microcontroller that enables its on-chip microprocessor to write data into a register of an on-chip programmable analog circuit even though the two circuits may be operating at different frequencies. Specifically, the microcontroller includes a write synchronization circuit that helps facilitate the write operation between these two circuits. For example, the write synchronization circuit is coupled to receive write cycle signals from the microprocessor and is also coupled to receive trigger signals based on a clocking signal received by the programmable analog circuit. Therefore, upon receiving a write cycle signal, the write synchronization circuit has the ability (if needed) to stall the microprocessor's operations until the optimum time for writing data into the register for controlling the programmable analog circuit.

  • Publication number: 20050198541
Abstract: A method and a system for supplying power to a microcontroller with a single cell. One embodiment of the present invention discloses incorporation of a power supply pump circuit with the microcontroller and their dynamic interaction. The microcontroller sends its power requirements to the power supply pump circuit and in response, the power supply pump circuit controls the operating voltage with optimal efficiency. The dynamic update of power supply pump circuit results in an efficient use of the power supply pump circuit and thus results in a reduction of the number of dry cell batteries to only a single cell. Incorporation of the microcontroller and power supply pump circuit onto a single chip reduces the pin number requirements as well as the space required on the printed circuit board.

  • Patent number: 6891429
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention relate to a switched-capacitor filter which comprises a first stage which itself comprises a first switched capacitor, a second stage which itself comprises a second switched capacitor, a switched capacitive element that couples the output of the first stage to the input of the second stage, and a non-switched capacitive element coupled from the output of the second stage to the input of the first stage to provide damping of the switched-capacitor filter. Both stages are implemented as inverting analog amplifiers and the filter is especially well suited to semiconductor manufacture. The switched capacitor filter is implemented as part of a user module in a programmable system on a chip, or PSoC.

  • Patent number: 6868500
Abstract: In accordance with one embodiment of the present invention, a circuit provides power stability functions for a microcontroller, during startup and normal operations performing power on reset functions and an array of power stability functions. The power on reset functions hold the microcontroller in a safe reset condition, reinforce the POR hold, and force its switch mode pump to drive up voltage provided to its common supply source. The power stability functions constitute a power on reset function, a power supply health, e.g., power state condition monitoring function, a control function for dynamically controlling the common supply source, and auxiliary functions, which may be protective of a flash memory. The power on reset function operates at a fixed and/or programmably changeable voltage levels. In one embodiment, the POR circuit is interconnected with a processor through a bus, enabling programmatic processor control of microcontroller power through interaction with the POR circuitry.

  • Patent number: 6854067
Abstract: A method and system dynamically controlling microcontroller power. In one embodiment, the method and system configures a microcontroller power state, senses its condition, and determines its suitability status, communicates that status between a POR circuit and a processor, controls certain microcontroller functions accordingly, and dynamically programs power related functions. This is enabled, in one embodiment, by dynamic interaction between the POR circuit and the processor. Microcontroller power status is ascertained, and a corresponding optimal power state determined. Optimal values for programmable independent multiples of a supply voltage is programmatically calculated and set, dynamically adjusting microcontroller power states. In one embodiment, the optimal values are communicated to a scaler in the POR circuit by the processor, and registered within a multiplexer/register matrix within the scaler.

  • Patent number: 6614320
Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention is a programmable clock architecture for a microcontroller that provides multiple different clocking signal frequencies that may be utilized by one or more programmable logic blocks of the microcontroller. In this manner, the clocking architecture enables the programmable logic blocks to perform a wider variety of functions because they have access to a wider variety of clock signal frequencies. Specifically, the clocking architecture of the present embodiment includes a plurality of clocking sources. For example, the output clocking signal of one of the clock oscillators is divided down to different smaller frequencies and also multiplied to provide more frequencies that may be utilized by the programmable circuit blocks and processor of the microcontroller.

  • Patent number: 6608472
Abstract: The present invention relates to a band-gap reference circuit. The circuit comprises a plurality of diodes connected in series in one or more chains, a current source to flow current through the diode chains, and a selection of shunt current sources. The shunt current sources are connected in parallel with the main current sources and each, or any, can be selected in order to add current to the diode chain. In this manner, current flow through the diode chain is adjusted in order to provide a trimmable band-gap reference voltage. By adjusting the current flow, the high precision reference voltage circuit can provide a very accurate reference value for variations in process state, process error and temperature.
