  • Patent number: 9341716
Abstract: A system, apparatus and corresponding method by which to synchronize to a time reference a main module of a device—a main module such as global positioning system (GPS) receiver—using a cellular communication signal received by a cellular module also included in the device. To synchronize the main module to the reference time, the invention provides a method including the steps of: having the cellular module respond to the cellular communication signal by providing to a clock module of the main module a trigger pulse derived from the data component of the cellular communication signal, and also by providing to the main module information relating the trigger pulse to a universal time. The main module is then able to resolve a value for time based on the information relating the trigger pulse to a universal time and the trigger pulse.

  • Patent number: 9319065
Abstract: An apparatus run-length encodes data to obtain a sequence of records. The data are associate to grid points of a grid and the records are defined such that they allow embedding data associated to a same grid point and representing pieces of information of at least two different types in a same record. The encoded data may be stored or transmitted. When receiving or retrieving such run-length encoded data in a sequence of records, the data may be run-length decoded to obtain decoded data and an association of the decoded data to the grid points of the grid.

  • Patent number: 9304970
Abstract: A system for creating a representation of a location based on information sensed at the location. For example, apparatuses may comprise various sensors that sense apparatus-related information (e.g., motion, direction, etc.) while also visual, signal, field, etc. information pertaining to a location. Apparatuses may store sensed information about the apparatus while at a particular location, and about the particular location itself, in a mapping database, which may then associate the various types of sensed information with information already stored in the database in order to create a representation of the location.

  • Publication number: 20150296389
Abstract: A system for supporting electronic positioning in apparatuses. Apparatuses may receive various wireless signals over time. The strength of the received wireless signals may be determined by the apparatuses, and based on this determination an occurrence for each received wireless signal may be accumulated in a histogram in the apparatus. Information based on the histogram may then be transmitted to a mapping database. The mapping database may then utilize this information to, for example, create signal-based maps for use in apparatus positioning.

  • Publication number: 20150050931
Abstract: An apparatus receives a plurality of reports from at least one mobile terminal, which is connected to a particular cell of a cellular communication network. Each report includes an identification of a first type of a plurality of cells of the cellular communication network currently observed by the at least one mobile terminal and, associated with each identification of the first type, a result of at least one measurement on signals. The apparatus computes for each identification of the first type, a result of at least one measurement in the plurality of reports. The apparatus then determines, based on the computed sums, one of the identifications of the first type to be an identification of the first type of the particular cell.

  • Publication number: 20150050946
Abstract: An apparatus determines for each of a plurality of sub-areas of an area an amount of measurement results that are received for the respective sub-area. The apparatus further determines a sub-area, for which the determined amount of measurement results exceeds a reference value. The apparatus further sets up for the determined sub-area a focus grid with a density that is higher than a lowest density of a basic grid assigned to the area. Measurement results received for the determined sub-area may then be stored at least with a mapping to grid points of the focus grid.

  • Patent number: 8878723
Abstract: For supporting a satellite based positioning of a mobile arrangement (30, 40) with assistance data, a communication network converts parameters of a dedicated orbit model describing a movement of a satellite (50, 60), which dedicated orbit model is defined for a particular satellite based positioning system, into parameters of a common orbit model describing a movement of a satellite (50, 60). Alternatively or in addition, the network replaces a reference value that is based on a satellite based positioning system time in available parameters of an orbit model by a reference value that is based on a communication system time. After the parameter conversion and/or the reference value replacement, the parameters are provided as a part of assistance data for the satellite based positioning.

  • Patent number: 8655401
Abstract: The present invention provides methods and apparatus for supporting geographical-based services in a communications system. In an embodiment of the invention, a terminal node (e.g., a wireless terminal) inserts geographical information into a header portion of an IPv6 datagram. The serving network utilizes the geographical information to support a geographical-based service. In another embodiment, a terminal node, which is located in a geographical area, receives service configuration information regarding service regions from a serving network and determines what services are supported in the geographical area. In an embodiment, header formats for the inserted geographical information in a propagated signal between a terminal node and a serving network are provided.
