Abstract: The present dispensing closure system includes a closure base, which can be configured for securement to an associated container, and a lid hingedly connected to the closure base for movement between closed and open positions, wherein in the closed position of the lid, the lid coacts to close and seal a dispensing orifice defined by the closure base. Convenient manipulation of the lid between its closed and open positions is facilitated by the provision of a sliding element mounted on the closure base for sliding, reciprocable movement generally laterally of the closure base. Notably, the sliding element includes a latch portion which coacts with the lid to positively retain the lid in its closed position until manipulation of the sliding element by a user to unlatch the lid. The sliding element includes one or more camming surfaces which coact with the lid to urge it from its closed position to its open position.

The preferred embodiment of the system includes a closure having a closure body for extending from the container at the container opening and a lid hingedly attached to the closure body. The closure body has a dispensing spout, and the lid includes a hollow spud for entering the spout. A spud rim can be provided on the spud, extending inwardly towards the hollow interior of the spud. A lid rim can additionally or alternatively be provided on the inside surface of the lid, positioned within the hollow interior of the spud.

The compartment is pivotable with respect to the housing between a dispensing position and a non-dispensing position. The dispenser may also include a biasing member to bias the compartment to the non-dispensing position and a rib to resist accidental pivoting of the compartment.

A cam follower is located on the other one of the base and spout, and the cam follower is engaged in the cam track.
