  • Patent number: 7583733
Abstract: The invention provides systems and methods for providing compressed video data from multiple bit streams. The systems and methods apply a two-stage strategy. In the first stage, a conditioning step is performed on a bit stream comprising compressed video data which outputs a conditioned bit stream that is able to receive digital insertions without subsequent decompression of the compressed video data or removal from network packets. The conditioning includes recoding an incoming bit stream such that compressed video data in the bit stream immediately before and after a splice point does not have temporal reliance across the splice point. In the second stage, e.g., at a downstream network device, splicing of compressed video data from a second bit stream into the conditioned bit stream is performed. The splicing takes advantage of the changes made to the conditioned bit stream and may occur at the network packet level.

  • Publication number: 20080008415
Abstract: Effects of diffraction of a spectral beam from an edge of the micromirrors are reduced in order to optimize the passband in a wavelength selective switch. The effects of diffraction on the pass band may be reduced by using rotation of the micromirror about both the attenuation axis and the switching axis to achieve the desired level of attenuation. Peak coupling can be attained by dithering the micromirror about a dither axis that is tangent to a contour of constant attenuation using simultaneous rotation about the switching and attenuation axes. A power level of a spectral channel may be attenuated by rotating the channel micromirror with respect to an effective attenuation axis that is non-orthogonal to the dither axis through a combination of rotations about the switching axis and the attenuation axis.

  • Publication number: 20070118242
Abstract: A system and method for predicting yield of integrated circuits includes at least one type of characterization vehicle which incorporates at least one feature which is representative of at least one type of feature to be incorporated in the final integrated circuit product. The characterization vehicle is subjected to at least one of the process operations making up the fabrication cycle to be used in fabricating the integrated circuit product in order to produce a yield model. The yield model embodies a layout as defined by the characterization vehicle and preferably includes features which facilitate the gathering of electrical test data and testing of prototype sections at operating speeds. An extraction engine extracts predetermined layout attributes from a proposed product layout. Operating on the yield model, the extraction engine produces yield predictions as a function of layout attributes and broken down by layers or steps in the fabrication process.

  • Publication number: 20070055755
Abstract: A remote authoring service is described. Remote page authoring includes receiving a stream of data from a server that includes embedded control attribute data. The embedded control attribute data facilitates the generation of a proxy control and allows a web page designer to make modifications to dynamic elements of the webpage without requiring the executable code for the actual controls. The proxy control may provide preview data of the control to allow the client to perform authoring functions using the proxy control. Modifications made via the proxy control service may then be transmitted to the server where the controls are updated.

  • Publication number: 20070047113
Abstract: A method and apparatus for fabricating a MEMS apparatus having a device layer with an optical surface that is supported by a pedestal on a planar support layer that is suspended for movement with respect to a base support by hinge elements disposed in a different plane from the planar support layer. The surface area of the optical surface is maximized with respect to the base support to optimize the fill factor of the optical surface and afford a high passband. The height of the pedestal is selected to position the device layer sufficiently above the base support to afford an unobstructed predetermined angular rotation about each axis. The hinges may be made of thin-film material, fabricated by way of surface micromachining techniques. The hinges are disposed underneath the device layer enabling the optical surface to be maximized so that the entire surface becomes usable (e.g., for optical beam manipulation).
