  • Patent number: 4956530
Abstract: A method and apparatus for even and rapid heating, pasteurization or sterilization of food by microwave energy. The products to be heated are passed through an oblong microwave treatment chamber on a continuous conveyor belt. The beginning and end of a container on the conveyor is registered before or during entry into the treatment chamber, and this information is transmitted to a computer. On the basis of this information, the computer switches on and off the input microwave energy of the individual input channels when the containers or packages pass under the input channels, the switch-on and switch-off points being set in relation to the container or package length and the axial aperture center of the input channels. The microwave energy to be input into the product is preset in the computer.

  • Patent number: 4956532
Abstract: A method and apparatus for even and rapid heating, pasteurization or sterilization of products contained in a package, such as, for example, pharmaceutical products or food, which are conveyed through a microwave treatment chamber on a continuous conveyor belt. In order to heat components of the products having different heat absorption for the purpose of reaching the pasteurization temperature rapidly and evenly, the temperature of the components is recorded by a temperature sensor, and on the basis of this the computer calculates the respective .DELTA.T, taking into account given product parameters and the desired temperature to be reached. When the product passes under the following input aperture, a given microwave energy level is coupled into each specific component, as a result of which an even temperature of all products in the package is achieved very rapidly without overheating of the product.

  • Patent number: 4904835
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for the uniform and rapid heating of foodstuffs, usually for pasteurization and sterilization purposes, by means of microwave energy. The cross-sectional shape of the outlet of the wave guides through which the microwave energy is supplied is selected so as to be geometrically similar to that of the product to be treated. A spacing is maintained between the outlet aperture and the surface of the product, which spacing is not greater than the wavelength of the microwave energy be used. These features provide rapid and appropriate processing of a food product while, at the same time, preventing the harmful overheating of the edge regions of the product.

  • Patent number: 4651228
Abstract: In a method and arrangement for the representation of a halftone image upon employment of a detection-adapted grid, the halftone image formed of intensity stages is generated by picture elements of identical size situated at prescribed grid positions. A given plurality of grid positions is combined to form an image spot. The plurality of picture elements and their grid positions within an image spot defines the respective intensity stage. The grid structure is oriented on a curve of the detection limit for the perceptability of sinusoidal grids. For producing a hexagon-like impression given the employment of grid positions situated in quadratic matrices, successive change lines of joining matrices or sub-matrices are shifted relative to one another by half a side length of the matrices or sub-matrices in the formation of the image spots.

  • Patent number: 4530761
Abstract: An extrusion device used for extracting liquids from liquid-solid mixtures and which operates on the separation gap principle, comprising a screw rotating in a barrel. Pins project radially inwardly into the barrel. The separation gaps and the internal lining of the barrel are maintained in an operationally efficient state for long periods of time even if highly abrasive and/or corrosive mixtures are being treated. The internal surface of the hollow barrel is lined with individual, interchangeable segments which are peripherally staggered relative to one another in the form of a wall, end face or tip portions are located on the end portion of the pins. Moreover, the screw comprises a mandrel on which are mounted individual screw flight portions. Between the flight portions, ring portions are mounted on the mandrel. These ring portions and the tip portions mounted on the pins define the separation gaps. Accordingly, those parts which are liable to wear or corrode can be readily replaced.

  • Patent number: 4509419
Abstract: A worm press for mechanically separating liquid/solid mixtures comprising a feed region and a pin-barrel pressing region. The worm has at least one flight, each of which flights is interrupted so as to enable the flight to pass the stationary pins in the pin-barrel region. The downstream ends or points of the worm flight portions formed by the interruptions are specially shaped in order to increase considerably the strength and service-life of the highly stressed points. This is achieved by reducing the size of the thrust flank, so that the flank subtends an angle of from 20.degree. to 50.degree. relative to the line perpendicular to the worm axis. Desirably, the thus-angled profiled tip region of the flight portions are interchangeable.

  • Patent number: 4503764
Abstract: The press installation includes a screw rotatably mounted in a cylinder. A very high pressure is produced to separate liquids from a mixture, with the separated liquid being drained off through bore holes in stationary pins at the location where it is released. In the discharge zone, the screw is devoid of threads whereby the annular cross sectional area between the screw core and the cylinder is increased. This extends the retention time and thus the amount of dehydration of the material as it passes through the discharge zone. Additionally provided in the discharge zone are annular offsets around the screw core in the vicinity of the pins, which prevent the penetration of solids into the drainage bore holes.
