  • Publication number: 20160212622
Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure provide for a method of efficiently implementing security configurations for multiple domains between a network entity and a UE in a wireless system. For instance, this disclosure provides for a network entity sending to a UE a first security mode command for a first domain, receiving a first security mode complete message in response to the first security mode command, and sending a second security mode command for a second domain. In an aspect, the second security mode command is sent in response to receiving the first security mode complete message. In an aspect, the UE does not receive a RLC acknowledgement. In another aspect, the UE saves the second security mode command until it receives the RLC acknowledgement. In an aspect, the network entity sends the second security mode command in response to receiving a message protected with first security procedure parameters.

  • Patent number: 9398546
Abstract: In aspects for controlling transmit power of dual carrier uplink transmission for wireless communications, a user equipment (UE) determines presence of transmit power imbalance between a first and second radio frequency (RF) carrier of respective dedicated physical control channels for uplink transmission. The UE determines an estimate of a remaining available transmit power after estimating the transmit power used by each of the dedicated physical control channels. The UE allocates the estimated remaining available transmit power to the first and second RF carrier respectively based on both a size of data granted for uplink transmission on each RF carrier and on an effective power per bit on each RF carrier. Additionally, the UE determines a higher reliability value for each RF carrier based on a lower data error rate, identifies priority values for data to be transmitted and sends higher priority data over the RF carrier with higher reliability value.

  • Publication number: 20160135114
Abstract: Aspects described herein relate to throttling packet-switched (PS) call establishment in wireless communications. A circuit-switched (CS) call can be conducted by using a first radio access technology (RAT). A cell update (CU) procedure for a PS call using a second RAT can be detected as due to one or more conditions. A cause for the one or more conditions can be determined based on one or more parameters related to a transmitter or receiver.

  • Publication number: 20160112373
Abstract: Techniques for managing cell update messages are described here. An information element (IE) that indicates the security status of a user equipment (UE) may be included in the cell update message when a cell update procedure is triggered during an ongoing security mode procedure. To ensure the size of the cell update message is equal to or smaller than the transport format size, other IEs may be omitted from the cell update message if the security mode procedure is in progress. Alternatively, if the security mode procedure is not in progress, there may not be a need to update the security status of the UE and, thus, the IE that indicates the security status may be omitted from the cell update message to reduce the size of the cell update message.

  • Publication number: 20160105800
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are provided for synchronizing security parameters between access terminals and a wireless network. An access terminal and network entity can conduct a security mode procedure where the access terminal sends a security mode complete message to the network entity. On receipt of the security mode complete message, the network entity may update to new security parameters. The access terminal may initiate a mobility procedure while the security mode procedure is ongoing and may, as a result, abort the security mode procedure and revert back to the old security parameters. The access terminal can send a mobility update message to the network entity including a dedicated status indicator adapted to inform the network entity that the access terminal has reverted back to the old security parameters. In response to the mobility update message, the network entity may revert back to the old security parameters.

  • Patent number: 9294958
Abstract: The present disclosure presents a method and apparatus for dynamically configuring a cell update message at a user equipment (UE). For example, the method may include determining that a size of the cell update message at the UE is above a threshold value after a “measured results on random access channel (RACH)” information element (IE) is excluded from the cell update message. Furthermore, such an example method may include removing one or more IEs from the cell update message until the size of the cell update message is at or below the threshold value. As such, dynamic configuration of a cell update message at a UE is achieved.

  • Publication number: 20160066289
Abstract: The disclosure provides for recovering from radio link desynchronization. A network node may determining a first validity rate of a first plurality of protocol data units (PDUs) including a length indicator transmitted over the radio link using ciphering based on a hyperframe number and determining a second validity rate of a second plurality of PDUs without a length indicator transmitted over the radio link using ciphering based on the hyperframe number. The network node may detect desynchronization of the hyperframe number based on the first validity rate and the second validity rate. The network node may initiate a reset procedure to set a new hyperframe number for the radio link. The network node may detect desynchronization when the first validity rate is less than a first threshold, and the second validity rate is greater than or equal to a second threshold.

  • Patent number: 9247561
Abstract: Techniques for prioritizing non-scheduled data are described. Non-scheduled data to be transmitted on a non-scheduled MAC-d flow having a non-scheduled priority and scheduled data to be transmitted on a scheduled MAC-d flow having a scheduled priority may be identified by a user equipment (UE). The UE may transmit the non-scheduled MAC-d flow and the scheduled MAC-d flow according to a priority condition. In one aspect, the UE may receive a pre-allocation of power associated with a non-empty non-scheduled MAC-d flow. Based on a priority condition that the non-scheduled priority is a highest priority, the UE may apply all of the pre-allocation of power when transmitting the non-scheduled MAC-d flow. In one aspect, based on a priority condition that the non-scheduled priority is a lower priority, the UE may adjust the non-scheduled priority and/or the scheduled priority so that the non-scheduled priority is a higher priority.
